Geeez, how the F is it possible I completely, (till Today)have missed this cool diy play around tread?
I must have my head parked in my ass or something:hmm:.
Right, I love this type of stuff.
Better go for some stem hunting in town when it's safe to do so again.(bit of a protest going on for the last 2 weeks.)

I got the parts to make mine in the mail today and I've got to say it's awesome!! Big clouds of Smooth tasty vapor, the bowl I got for it works fine but I definitely have to get a better one I have now is hard to unload and cause some uneven vaporization.

Very nice!
Thanks a lot for trying it out!!

Did you make the 14mm or the 18mm?

I’ve been rocking the 14mm quite a bit these last few days myself, I find it to be super efficient at extracting big vapors on a few crumbs.

I need to put another 18mm wand together now that I have my Big Shot torch. I still think that one is the heaviest heavy I’ve ever heaved! 🙃🙃🙃😁

I built a 14 mm one and yeah I love it so far it's the first vape I've had that can fully extract a load in one hit. Now I just need to look around the head shops for a 14 mm to 14 mm adapter that's straight without the bulge because that's the only issue I have right now. Thanks for putting such an awesome design out there.

Some of these imported water pipes have the absolute perfect straight sided, unground, 14mm female gong; but I haven’t really been able to find any glass/lampworking supplier selling them; they might have their own mold overseas for that one. I might have to contact one of the manufacturers off The Gate’ to make me some straight sided 14mm adapters.

If you find a good adapter already made do post back!
I’m actually using a 14F-10M with the low profile 14->10 adapter to bump back up to 14mm. It had a decent amount of depth to load material, but it could still be better IMHO!

@Shadewarrior: I got my adaptors from Thick Ass Glass (mine were 30%off, I think there's a 20% sale now); work pretty good with a self-formed screen.

@invertedisdead - I think it's funny how you've mentioned the scvw's microdose ability multiple times. I typically (some might say frequently) reach for it when I want something with more torque than a DV...

Here's mine for laughs- I know it doesn't *look* like success, but all are welcome to drop by and be proven wrong!

I swear it works great!

Dude that's like the death metal version :)
Bitchin Rad!

I've been thinking about getting some cut down a bit at the joint to give me a deeper bowl too. A 14/10 would give me an extra 10mm of depth in every adapter, which I think would fix most of my bowl debacles.

I could see it being a great compliment to a DV, as a small bit of convection kit!

I admit I'm not the biggest micro doser around 🙃 but im always impressed at how well and fast the 14mm milks out a tube with convection; even compared to the larger 18mm. The big one can hold a lot more herb though, so it's a total crusher. I actually had to stop using the 18mm because I kept falling asleep at 4PM, and then I'd wake up way too early!

Well I found out this morning that you can use a standard 19mm GonG stem (RBT, Underdog, TinyMight, etc) as a bowl for the Sandcastle Junior. The adjustable screen height allows for loading more herb than a 14mm adapter, and it clears so fast - like an old school straight shooter bong.

Pretty solid!

Would you sharing some pictures I'm having a hard time visualizing that but that's a great discovery!

No problem, it’s one like this

You were right about needing a bigger torch for the 18mm quartz nectar collector SCVW
What do you think about using a 14mm quartz nectar straw Instead of the long stem? And of course something to tweeze the hot quartz off.

Yeah the 18mm version definitely takes some firepower

I'm getting much better results with my shiny new "bo mo & co" torch
Dense tasty clouds, clearing a bowl in two draws if you want (like a Pinky but much more stable), using less gas than I've been using for the Elev8R. Really surprised how cool the quartz stays at the handle end, and to not need the test tube tongs.

Nice! That’s awesome that you built one. That’s one of my favorite parts of this one is how easy it is to get into the bowl for a stir or fresh load!

Im now testing out the viability of an electric PID controlled heater station for the SCVW for torch free operation.

Here’s a quick vid of an initial demo

One, I really need to make one of these and two, I love your bong!

Thanks friend! 🥳🥳 that tube was made by a local shop, I had been wanting a fully worked beaker for quite a while so I finally treated myself to it for my last birthday 🎁

All of the colors are fumed from vaporized precious metals which I think fits right in as a vapor rig!!

Love this thread.

Have you seen "Quartz gooch crucibles"? Do a google search and go down the rabbit hole. I think they look interesting. It's also proof that fusing a fritted disc into a quartz tube is very possible. Porosity "0" is the coarsest, and what you'd want to look for.

Most of these are in boro, but I swear I've come across some quartz ones. The porcelain and alumina versions are interesting as well.

I could imagine one of these crucibles being filled with rubies.

Crucible furnace designs might give you some ideas for your power base.

Hey @invertedisdead is there any chance you could link to the specific quartz joint tubes you're using for your devices? I'm struggling to find something similar in the EU, maybe someone can help here.

Nice seeing you around Dan!

I’ve strongly considered using frits in my vapor wand and plugin desktop for heat transfer, but I think the porosity is still too fine, even at the coarsest level. Some even make a larger 00 size, but it still seems pretty fine. I definitely prefer less draw restriction so I haven’t ordered any samples. I’ve tried to get some larger size custom frits but haven’t had much luck finding someone to make them for me. I think I could potentially get them produced by a more specialized firm, but I’m not sure there’s really enough interest to justify the development or minimum order quantities I might need though.

The crucible furnace layout definitely seems in the ballpark of what I was thinking for a power base, I was thinking of incorporating a wood housing for a log vape vibe. Only instead of picking up the whole log, you’d just grab the wand and drop it into a loaded bowl. Nothing to flip over or power cords to limit passing it around.

Potentially one version could house/heat a couple smaller wands to satisfy a group of enthusiasts. But just the singular unit would be a nice start.

Ive considered just making an induction compatible wand which I think could be fun too, I’m always torn between which materials I want to use on these projects.

Hahah, yeah... material selection is always a challenge.

It's too bad you couldnt find anyone to do the frit work. I think a lot of cannabis related glass workers are in such high demand... taking on custom orders is rare. And like you said... someone out there can do it... but it'll likely be expensive.

I like the whole concept of a stationary wooden base that heats your wand. I'm totally interested in where you'll go with whatever you decide to do!
