So I just thought I'd duck back to say that I've finally managed to bother measuring the return I got from squishing nugs. Just to clarify - this is using nothing but a hair straightener and my poultry bodyweight!
For 1 pre-pressed (in a pollen/kief press) 1.17g Cluster bomb nug, I netted .18g return (15.38% for those playing from home).
This is actually really approaching the returns I get from solvent tek from the same material, and I have had other nugs squish much more (of course being organic plant material, different nugs will have more resin than others from the same plant ie: top colas will have more resin than lower popcorn nugs etc).
I am also finding that to keep the nail cleaner after a dab, mixing roughly 50/50 QWISO/QWET absolute shatter and flower rosin both makes the dab more potent and leaves less waxes/plant material to gunk up the nail with residual carbon
This also still tastes just like the flower rosin still, with a boost in the aspect of the flavor retained in the solvent extract (which has a narrower profile than a rosin squish from the same flowers, due to some terps not being so soluble in alcohol). The cluster bomb flowers have a creamy flavor that doesn't seem to be expressed in alcohol extractions, but is super prominent in the nugs and also in bubble extracted from said nugs. The flowers also have an orange flavor and a skunk flavor too, these seem to be much more pronounced in solvent extractions.
Putting the two together adds some fruitiness to the flower rosin but retains the beautiful creamy flavor. A winning combination!

side note from german class... the rosin stamp thing did not really work for me lol seems it made a bigger mess than a dabber with a dab on it collecting does... now I have this glass 1up mushroom all covered in rosin lol... what a funny mess this is...

Do you follow SoilGrown on IG? He has a video from about 9 weeks ago showing how he uses his glass rosin stamp to collect rosin. It seems best for large batches. Smaller batches, I'd personally stick with a ball point dabber.

Picked up some nugs from my guy today. 5 strains that look like they should kick ass. I squished .5 of OG Kush and only got back .08 or 16% from this. I am pretty sure they are tumbling these as virtually nothing drops off the bud when I shake it in a clean jar. Could be the strain though or maybe it's too dry. Boveda test next.

I had to break down and grab a little dispensary flower the other day and on a whim took a look at it with my 60x loupe...Clearly a whole lotta shakin goin on lol. I could find almost NO trichome heads, just lonely hairs where they used to live. Life is so much better when you can control your own medicine, I genuinely feel for those who can't.

Best I could do. He uses it like a stamp, up and down, not like an eraser. Not sure if that makes a difference with smaller amounts? He definitely doesn't have a small amount going on there. You get the idea

yea that does help I was trying to rub or scrape it off the paper which seemed to warm it up and smear it. just tap it on the rosin with the parchment setting atop of an ice pack or some frozen food.
na I still like the fold and peel or just collect rosin with a dab of rosin on the dabber. it was just another random heady tool for glass collectors imo.
If you are trying to collect enough to require a stamp... the cold fold and peel works better and requires no tools besides the parchment its already on.
I tried some 0.05*50mm*1meter PTFE film today and it actually works. My pieces are smaller than my jaws but it seems to hold up after a few squishes. It's not as easy to collect and the bud has to be peeled up off of it, but it is doable. I need bigger pieces to do more testing with longer presses so I don't spit rosin out the side.
There is something about the way the parchment just moves rosin that I really like though and the bud justs slides right off.

so late in getting my press build goin but it did start yesterday. got my SS all cut to length. i cut it with an angle grinder and cut off wheel. so some of these pieces need burrs filed off and to be cleaned up a bit. drilling the holes for the cartridge heaters will have to be tomorrow or tuedsay after the jb weld has plenty of time to cure.
im using red oak as the insulator. this is all cut but the magnets need to be installed.
just not enough time in the day. maybe i need to take a couole days off of work to complete this...

Hey bro, just wanted to point out that sometimes, for various reasons during cultivation, some material will have predominately non-glandular trichome stalks. The stalks look clear like glandular trichomes except they are missing the head (or glandular part). Of course, as we know, this could have been tumbled as well, but it could also just be less than ideal chemovars (basically just scientific speak for resin producing plants in the open scientific literature as well as the few GW monographs/publications I've seen) being grown by whoever it came from!I put my artillery peep sight on my phone and it has been clear cut. So I managed to rosin injure myself pretty bad yesterday, did a flower squish and then when I finished, felt a sharp pain in the back of my head/top of my neck. It seems to have died down today some, but not enough to allow me to sleep through the night uninterrupted, no matter how many dabs I do! Be careful with the squish, I need to get my shit together and get a proper press/edelweiss rig!

Ugh, I'm not at all a fan of the scraping and loss that comes with using a stamp to collect. I think even Soilgrown acknowledges he just does stack patties together or just fold the rosin on itself to collect. Once you have decently sized patties you can simply stack them on top of each other for extremely fast reclaming. I have used the small D-Nail press this past weekend, over at Oil Slick HQ and I'm not a huge fan. I was never interested in the Large press because I've used a T shirt press a ton and I'm sick of it. also huge heated pads chase away oil and worse pressure in pounds per square inch for a given input force. so I'm all about smaller surface area but even the Small doesn't seem to transmit a ton of force. It flexes. Smaller surface area means more psi for the same input force so I'm back to hair straighteners until I can afford to build some heated plates.

I agree. and the tshirt type presses are kinda overpowered just because of the size of plate the heaters are heating
just cartridge heaters.
I like a vice best. easy to make fast to diy and low budget.
did another hair iron press while I sort things out. cant keep me from my rosin! this v2 mod comes with a handy place to stick the electronics since just letting them hang cause issues last time.... not really super happy with this iron though... bottom end is more like 240 mounted to the jaws... I might see if I can throttle it with an aux dimmer but that may just kick the who unit off.

my plates are almost done. just need to drill the holes for the cart heaters and clean the ends up a bit. the insulators have magnets drying in them now and with two on each one it has tons of hold. after thats done i will add small pieces of wood to help align them when installing them each time. then the plates will be adhered to the insulators, wiring gets done, and a squishing i go!

Fuck me, this is just awful news. I ordered the small t-shirt press months ago and it still hasn't arrived. Now I hear it sucks. Man, what a waste of money.
Hopefully there are some cheap mods to make it good, such as removing the gay flexible springs somehow....

I wouldn't say waste of money. And my prior post should have said, I've used a preproduction D nail press. Perhaps the production version has a brace to lessen the deflection.
For what it's worth, I dented the aluminum plates of a T shirt press and I've never heard of that happening before, so I might have a different threshold for pressure than others do. I'm just one guy and may be doing some things wrong.
