Here's a video by John Barfelo doing some nug pressing
From the yields people are getting with bud I don't think I would bother pressing nugs in the normal single nug by nug fashion. Yikes to that amount of labor! lol
I would argue that screens are essential for anything I'd consider dabbable.
I don't want bits of particulate in my dabs lol I run a clean, tight ship!
Still definitely use at least ss screens for any material you press. Apply a good solid bit of pressure with just enough heat. I have reduced my temp and now am getting shatter instead of sap

I'm not sure if you're familiar with my work, but if it's aint crystal clear an dewaxed/sub-micron filtered like my avatar pic - I generally won't dab it.As far as needing to use screens goes ive had rosin were ide be suprised if you could tell the diffrence, it really depends on how dry your buds are.
What kind of yeilds are you getting with bubble ? I was under the impression 10-15% yeilds were ideal for solventless
I came across one particular strain that dosent like to scrape of the paper, makes me wonder if I can go even lower then 320f. Any one try lower temps with bud ?
Mine is dark purple at least...You should see the one I got. Bright pink. But hey it had titanium coated heat plates....supposedly anyway.

I am a medical user and am only interested in putting cannabinoids/terpenoids into my system when I use mmj. The stuff I make with solvents is already first rate, I am confident that any FCers who've seen my work will agree As such, for Rosin to be worthwhile to me, it needs to be clean (as much actives as possible with as little inactives as possible!).
I believe there are still wax/fats getting into rosin, but the rosin I'm getting is otherwise unadulterated with any other kind of inactive. I have never seen rosin pressed without screens that didn't have some particulate in it. This is why I recommend screens. Others can do what they will, but I will not be dabbing anything that isn't getting me where I need to be
I'm definitely getting results with lower temps than 320f. However it becomes difficult to maintain that heat in all points of your pressing apparatus and this may become a protip of diminishing returns depending on your pressing rig
I am getting 50%+ returns from my bubble (which is to be expected, I have pegged the cannabinoid/terp content of this bubble from prior experiments somewhere between 60% - 72.5% based on the stuff I take out when I have used solvent based methods to purify the bubble into an absolute).
this is what stops me from trying this tek.
If you are trying to produce large amounts of rosin, the amount of time and work involved could definitely be an issue. Especially with a hair iron as opposed to a larger press. However, if you are just looking for a personal head stash, pressing buds is a pretty quick and easy process. About 30-45 minutes work with buds and a straightener will easily get me enough rosin to last a couple people a week or so.
interesting. i use errl more so than flowers. a gram of errl i can make last a week. i try to keep my tolerance down.
you think 30-45 minutes could yield a gram?
I have no interest in blasting anything anytime soon. Any time lost to pressing is surely made up with the lack of purging.

First try might take a little longer but once you get your process down you can crank out a gram in that time for sure. Depends on your starting material too.. It takes me anywhere from 8 to 16 grams of flower to get a gram of rosin so that will have an effect on overall time spent as well.
so at most your looking at a 3g return from a zip?
and then you are vaping the smashed flowers?
i think i would rather have a 5+ gram return from a wash.
make edibles. save up the pucks and make a coconut oil infusion to make brownies. With the flowers I have access to at the moment I have seen anywhere from 7% to 13% returns. Less than I'm used to from winterized bho runs for sure. Im willing to make that trade off for the time being as I have been really enjoying the flavor and potency of the rosin, as well as the fact that it is completely solventless.
If I had a large amount of material to run I'd be doing mainly bho or qwet, but I've been digging the rosin, even with the reduced yields. Been saving up the pressed flower chips, not really sure what I'll do with them yet.
