Rosin Technique....Easy DIY Solventless

I've been having some good luck with my ghetto press. My technique is to lightly compress ~.25g in a kief press (about the width of a dime) and then throw it in the hair iron. The iron is set to 350 and I press for ~5 seconds by lining up the iron sides and putting most of my weight on the lever. This is repeated 2-3x for each run. Last run yielded roughly 12%.

I was thinking Tortilla press, IR Thermometer, and a blow torch to get things heated up.

With a cast iron tortilla press you could just heat it up in the oven until saturated. I did similar with a cast iron griddle and grill press and it worked, with a tortilla press it should work even better.

Oh and the IR therm would need emissivity adjustment settings. For the pan I was using, 0.65 emissivity seemed like the accurate setting.

edit: Cool there are also tortilla and flat bread makers that are basically a tortilla press with heat added. The model I linked has adjustable temp control.

For $60, this looks quite promising.

I got my flat iron today. I wonder how much pressure this remington straightner can take, I want to experiment with some weights But i would really hate to break it on the first try.

Hope someone has the ability to try that out. Looks awesome but I can't afford to test this one out lol. I won't be making any tortillas, so its an all or nothing purchase for me!

I'd love to see a picture tutorial if anyone wants to show step by step, I'm most interested in what it looks like as soon as your done pressing but before removing the flower...

I can confirm 10% yeilds with nice strains, I pressed a .5 for 7 seconds twice at 320

Low grade worked but I would say it was half the yeild.

Can see oil around the pressed material also so definitely worth vaping.

Nice looking tasty oil. Im getting my 710 whip kit tommorow so this is a dream come true.

up thread I hear outdoor soil grown not so good? it is better fresh indoor hydro?

It's going to be directly related to Trich coverage. Most outdoor strains I've had aren't as blanketed in trichs as indoor strains I've had. That being said, I pressed some outdoor NYC Diesel I have and it still worked, just didn't yield as much.

Gave this method a quick shot tonight for the first time with some soil grown outdoor nug. Pressed around 1 gram (broken into 5 roughly even pieces) and got 2 nice sized dabs. They were super tasty and quite potent. Definitely a successful initial attempt, looking forward to playing around some more with this tech. I mostly see outdoor so hopefully yields won't be too bad. Though I didn't weigh the final product , I was happy with the yield I got for a half-assed first try.

So, I've been getting consistent 15% returns on pretty much any indoor grow I've tried. Here's the last Nug of a three nug run (.51, .64, .59) I did of some OG which yielded 14.9% at .26 grams of hash oil. I press the bud three times at 330 degrees.

Pretty clean too. A bit of plant material, but not enough to notice anything when you dab it.

15% is pretty good, how long are you pressing for ?

Anybody watch hash church yesterday (or a replay)? They went in depth with rosin tech. A lot of footage of them using rosin on hash and even dry sift to improve the quality. They are using a 25µ screen in between the parchment and the hash/nug. Much lower temps on the hash as well. They are using the lowest setting on the iron and not much pressure (on hash/keif).

The first 45 minutes (maybe even 30) has the most about rosin tek. However soilgrown comes on around the 45 min mark and talks more in theory and about how he started doing it. After that it gets into east coast sour d and other shit until the two and half hour mark. That is the farthest I have made it. I've just had it running sort of it the background after the first 45 minutes.

This is a recap bubbleman made after church that shows how to clean hash.

I like how they suggest wrapping the bud/hash in a 25micron bubble bag then parchment to avoid the plant matter. That tip just might make me try this.

Edit: My LHS didn't have the pressing screens so I just ordered three 25 micron pressing screens off amazon to check this out. Does anyone recommend a specific brand of pressing? Even tho I already ordered them...

That's what would make you try this? Why? Because someone added some brain power to this tech?

Brain power folks.

Personally think sub 34f separates crystal from bud easier then heat but I am watching this.

Every other tek resulted in plant matter in the oil. I'm good with that, plus I do just fine with my BHO and QWET runs. I have put zero thought into this tek. Also it's the first time I saw it suggested. But thanks for the condescending response tho.

Had a WTF moment last week when i finally realized what rosin was (thought it was an added terp). This is pretty awesome and potentially revolutionary for for dab making since its easy, fast, cheap and doesn't use solvents. I don't think I'll use this over QWISO for the time being but it's great as a way to suggest to new dabbers who want to make it themselves without much work or safety risk.

I'm definitely going to keep my eye on it to see how the tek progresses and give it a try myself soon. I'm wondering if you could use stainless steel mesh instead of bubble bags, would be easier to clean after for re-use. Could probably use a higher micro too since it's mainly to prevent plant contamination, at least when using bud as a starting material.

I'm thinking too since dry sift or bubble seems to work better, if you picked up some dry ice you could process a whole lot of shatter in an afternoon that would normally take a few days to make.
