Get it. I'm having difficulty but I'm going to keep trying it. Its costing me a ton but I can get it done lol. I saw at one point one flake of golden oil, but while re-pressing I lost it. I know its real/possible, I just haven't been able to do it.
Be smart though. I tossed my pucks into ABV jar. Next time they are going into either my grinder, or a jar to save up pucks to do a QWET or BHO run on. There was no need to waste anything the way I did. It either works or it doesn't and if it doesn't the actives must still be there, unless you overheated.
I may have been using too much heat. I was around 400 I'd guess. I'm going to dial it down, and pull it off as soon as I hear the sizzle. I'll try some more. If I waste more than 2g today I'm tapping out again LOL.

I tried the rosin tek on some bubble again and had a bit more success.
I just stuck a pan in the oven until it was warmed up to ~200°. Then I rubbed some pressed bubble (held in my fingers) lightly across the pan. I paid attention to where the cloudy residue was forming and took care not to do more than a couple passes over those spots. As the pan started to cool, I could tell more plant matter was starting to stick, so I scraped up the rosin with a razor.
On a banger, the rosin leaves far less residue than the bubble it was extracted from. Noticeably more potent as well. The dabs taste better, but that's just because there is less plant matter combusting.
I want to try this with flowers, but I won't be doing it with bubble again. Just not worth it personally.

My friend picked up a hair straightener so we've been trying out the rosin tek on some flowers. Largely, it's been a disappointment. Pressed well over an eighth and collectively there was enough rosin for one medium sized dab. We tried several strains ranging from mid to top shelf and only the Gorilla Glue had an acceptable return. The GG nug was maybe 10% of the total weight pressed, yet returned 50% of the total rosin. I'd estimate the GG yielded close to 10%, though it's still only half of what you can get from BHO.
The rosin is as smooth or better than good BHO, but the taste is lacking. Very little of the terpene profile was preserved, so the flavor is just kind of bland.

One of my smaller friends was basically just standing on the iron. Worked pretty well, but the nug causes the halves of the iron to offset each other, which will sometimes just eject the nug without really pressing it.

yeah that would be the easy solution. I was gonna build a mount for the iron to prevent the halves from shifting, but I decided I don't want to put any more time/money into the rosin tek.

I have to agree with @Bouldorado. I have put about a half ounce of flowers through this tek, and whilst it does work and produces some really fine looking solventless extract. The taste is almost non existent. All these melt shots look great on Instagram etc, but it is deceiving IMO. To be honest I would sooner vape the flowers to get that terpene profile I crave, than press them flat just for an extract that looks great but doesn't taste of anything.
It is much more worthwhile making BHO or ice water hash IMO.

I'm having really great success with this tech. About 350f on the flat iron, lots of pressure. Works best with ultra AAA material. Also it seems to like the buds to have a good amount of humidity in them pre pressing.

Really!? What's your approximate yield? How's the taste? Whats your technique?
I've had up to 20% on one certain strain. But normally between 15-17%. My technique is as simple as I listed above. Grade A bud (moist-ish), flat iron at around 350-360F, and a lot of pressure for like 5-6 seconds. Sometimes I run a second press on the bud. For that I'll fold it in half and press hard for like 7-8 seconds. I've had some second runs yield more than the firsts. I will say though, strain plays a key role here. If it's not a hashy strain your not going to yield much hash from it.
Taste is really great but less terpy than bho for sure. Just kind of dulled down a bit.

yeah.... I really just don't understand this. BUT I have never been one to dissuade someone from anything they want to do as long as it doesn't hurt others... or my well cured sticky ass flowers

Bubble hash is the MOST work IMHO. Now I love enjoying a good bubble hash when its available here (never), but I'd MUCH rather make BHO, QWET, or even this than bubble hash. I feel like you need a TON to extract. I can't imagine making bubble from less than an oz of buds. Its worth mentioning that I have no trim, so that certainly changes things. All buds for me.
