Heading to harbor freight to pick up a press. Anything I should know in advance? Going to get plates through Joel! TIA for your help!
You could always build one for a little less, and a little better. Plates from joel are the way to go though..
I'm getting about 20% with my 8 ton jack and homebrew press. This is two seperate strains, same temps, between 210-225, but very different color and consistency. The darker oil tastes better but the bud it came from yielded slightly less.

Good tools make a good craftsman. Great tools make a great craftsmen. A master craftsman buys master tools. Harbor fright is complete crap but hey go buy the creapest tools you can find.

I've been using a Harbor Freight 12 ton press for years. In fact I've used at least a half dozen of them through various friends also owning them. They are great presses for the money. I use them for gunsmithing and have maxed them out with no warping. They are very popular presses in the gunsmithing community.

At my local Harbor Freight they only had the 12 & 20 ton units on display. I picked out a 12 ton flyer and took it to the cashier. It took them a long time and we had to ask the manager a few times what was going on in the warehouse. Then they eventually figured it out and realized that there wasn't all the correct boxes for the 12 ton. Since we were waiting for so long they gave us a free upgrade on the 20 ton! It's all overkill on the jack, but the frame is a bit beefier than the other two they offered, so I'm thrilled! Next week or possibly this weekend is squishing time, so stoked! Thanks for all the previous squishers squeezing the way!

Would it be cheaper to just use a hair straightener with kief/dry sift, or is a heavy duty press or vise still needed for yield? I'm trying to decide if I want to invest in materials and build a dry sift screen and take the time to collect all the resin, or just get something to squish the flowers whole.

I would recommend at least a clamp on the hair straightener. My $40 something dollar Harbor Freight press has been working just fine...

I officially have a new favorite hobby, squishing! Made a quick batch using the press with Joel's plates. It was so easy, and I got amazing results. Like pulling up a small fruit roll up, but it's incredible, mind tingling solventless rosin! God bless you guys for ironing out the details so us noobs can jump right in and join the fun!

:rip: I second that! Also my reclaim will no longer be dabs, edibles only for those, now that quality rosin is only a press away!
It's not something i'd recommend every day really, dabbing claim that is, but wait till you see how nice you're rosin's reclaim will be. If you could stand the taste of your old claim, this will be even better, you might even like the taste.
I make bho's reclaim into edibles exclusively, I always have, because i can't stand the taste of dabbing it. But the reclaim from rosin i'll dab some, and cook with some, maybe 50/50. I don't mind dabbing it, it isn't that bad at all. Its nice at night or in the early early morning if i feel like crap from a rough night. It's great to keep around.
