Discontinued RBT Splinter (All Versions)

TCR is better if you're not a pro and don't know when to stop holding the button, also it gives an indication how long the preheat should be, easier to know when to start the draw (example: with iHeat510 I start inhaling when I see the temp almost going up to 185C)
other than that.....still dunno ;)

also stoners will appriciate the TCR because again, nobody wants to be forced to know when it needs to be stopped from clicking the fire button..

Milaana. Lana. LANA. LANAAAA! (TM2/TP80/BAK/FW9)
well for context,
i read ‘or you could use it the way it meant to be used’ implied that anyone using TCR was using it incorrectly or wrong and i was curious if there was a technical reason a person shouldn’t use TCR but it is just a personal preference and that’s ok. i don’t agree with the reasons provided.

now, one thing that’s not apparent but i think we’re all talking about different devices. you specifically mention a splinter v2 and i know pak uses a splinter v2. maybe it sucks on there. but on a Z there’s no comparison.

a dialed in splinter z in tcr is undeniably better and i challenge you both to try one

Look at that, a challenge with the means to complete it provided! And yeah I will say my experience, with Splinter V2 dialed in using Arctic Fox on a P80, is fantastic in temp control, but other setups were not as good compared to wattage, so it really helps when you have it perfect for your use, not just the settings but the mod and the software... And the other thing I will say in regards to a Splinter ZV2 I have and struggled to get proper TCR set up like I was able to with my other Z on Red Panda Ravages, once I got the Predator mod running Arctic Fox already set up with profiles by FwL on side by side assembly, all I had to do was attach my Z and set the cold resistance. It has been working fantastic ever since, full temp range capability with solid regulation... So yeah, to each their own, definitely merits to using straight wattage power mode, but when you get the settings right, like they seem to be with this specific example from FwL in my experience, well having full temp control regulation is something special imo

ok PM me your address. try to get it back to me before the end of the year. this bad boy coming your way -
Very gracious of you, but I was joking! I have no doubts about the pleasures of Splinter use. But there is no permanent Splinter in my future, so this would be academic.
Thank you muchly, I love that you called my bluff!

I do love the V2, and I have a second; but these will be my lifetime supply of rbt vapes (heck, I sold a M3 because I just wasn't using it much...) with so many other shiny objects to always go after...

However, I'd like to know where you got the side-by side mount/stand, I was just this morning thinking of trying to find one...

Maybe @pakalolo will take you up on your offer?

Such a gracious move. Bravo @FearAndLawyering 👏

Both of my Zs are on DNA mods and are quite zipless for me and easy to control. I have a Splinter on a RX2/3 that I was never able to configure "properly" in TCR mode so I use that one in wattage mode and it works well that way. Guess which ones I reach for first? The Zs, baby.

It's kinda like (to me) the difference between a Milaana and a Zion. The Milaana is fully manual and I need more presence of mind to use it well. The Zion has a rheostat that controls the power level that I can set to make it very unlikely I might combust no matter how much I am paying attention. Once used to them it isn't that hard to keep out of trouble even with the Milaana, but it takes a while to get to that point and some folks never really reach it. With the Zs on DNA mods I can set a (relative) temp and not worry about it, and I find them particularly good for temp stepping as well.

All of these devices are great and the RBT family of vapes are way up their on my list of favorites, but I DO find some to be easier than others, and I tend to use them the most. They will ALL get me quite fucked up if that is my target, or allow me a light buzz if not. YMMV.

@vapviking do you think the unregulated aspect was part of them sitting unused? I don't want to go too offtopic and you don't have to name anything specific - but the ones you're lusting after instead, they have temp control I presume? I've bought, tried, and sold everything out there but the splinter z remains and I hope that everyone has access to that level of performance.

@pakalolo do you use a regular splinter because you prefer it? have you tried a Z? the offer is open to you as well (if you're in the states anyway, I can't risk my baby in international shipping)

I appreciate the offer but I have two of every version of Splinter including a custom purpleheart Splinter Z, and one that maybe no one else has: a prototype for concentrates. (Actually I think @IAmKrazy2 might also have one but I'm not sure.) I switch among them but as I think I already told you, I broke the glass in my favourite Splinter for the second time, and I have nothing to repair it with. I also have two mod boxes, a Wismec Sinuous P80 (single battery) and a Joytech Cuboid 150W (two batteries). I know they're not great mods but they more than suit my needs.

I was not trying to tell anyone how to use their Splinter, I was trying to point out that there is a much simpler way and it is the way it was designed to be used. I know because I was heavily involved in the design process. I realize that it makes some people happy to believe they have much more precise control than they actually have. I'm just trying to educate people who are struggling because they think they need it when a) they don't, and b) they can't have it anyway.

About the most important "feature" I've discovered is simply an auto puff shut-off, this is my fail-safe against combustion.

The firmware on my mod boxes supports auto-shutoff in wattage mode. See if your firmware does, or if not then look into installing something that does.

Lots of good lively discussion here. I'm no expert on this topic but I'll add my :2c: I use TCR maybe half the time for my splinters. To me, the main benefit of TCR is being able to keep autofire on without risk of overheating the device, like if you were to leave it in autofire accidently in wattage without drawing. I used to use TCR more often but I've started to prefer wattage for one reason (the same reason I love unregulated vapes): I can very easily temp step during a single hit. With unregulated - and a splinter in wattage - I can regulate the temp with draw speed/length and there's something better about the hit to me with the temp slowly increasing during the draw rather than at a stable temp.

@NimChimpsky this is an interesting idea - what if they had a boost mode like a crafty or something… 2 clicks to fire then if you click and hold again it will run a bit hotter and temp step
A boost sounds interesting. Like with my TP80, which allows you to change temp in autofire, I'll sometimes start a hit on 360 and up the temp by 5° like 3 or 4 times over the course of maybe a 10-15 second draw. Repeat starting on like 375. Sometimes with my ZionM, my favorite device, I'll kill a bowl in one hit by starting on a very low temp, hardly producing vapor, and slowly increase during the hit with a constant draw speed. It would be much harsher and less tasty if I used the final, highest temp during the full duration of the hit. My habits might also be different than others in that I don't really like to sip a basket screen over the course of many hits, but want to fully extract in like 3-4 longish draws usually.

One big factor in selling the M3 is that my wife just cannot seem to adapt to unregulated vapes in the least. I would sit and watch in amazement as she mimics my long slow draw, trying for the big cloud she just saw from me, then nothing. Or combust and I'd have to clean everything! I think we are all somewhat familiar with this phenomenon. (It's just to close to unsatisfactory sex...:( )
So, that rules out a bit more than half of the vape-use around here, and she has not been a fan of Splinter v2, either. And so, the pursuit of shiny objects definitely includes regulated vapes and leads elsewhere.

I also admit that filling/using glass stems is not really elegant for me. While I see some beauty in the simplicity and function, I do rather prefer just filling a chamber. It just made me laugh to think of @Shit Snacks vaping the first hit upside down with one of your vapes -- awkward!

Last on this for now is that I was highly reluctant to enter the box-mod world, just another tech hurdle to clear. That part never stops in today's world, but I like to resist sometimes.

But I will follow Fear's project, hey to a degree it is now a new shiny object calling me! and I appreciate that he is trying to take the mystery out of the mod end of things.

Yes, I hoover it up and deftly use my pinky to cap it off as I pull away from the grinder. A couple of little flicks, a light tamp, good to go.
When done vaping I blow it out all over the place!

I’ve used my pinky before to tamp and will blow out the abv when outside.

My problem is I need a stir stick in the middle of a bowl and my fingers are too damn big. Only appendage I got long and thin enough isn’t appropriate to pull out of my pants in public….plus that bowl gets kinda warm 🥵

My new V2 is out for delivery. Thanks for the heads up, @Shit Snacks—i’m not on Instagram and would’ve missed this deal if you hadn’t posted.
I’ve had three V2 deliver this week, couldn’t pass up the deal, will make good back ups for my US Customs (and one stocking stuffer if my brother proves worthy, still debating). At that price point they are worth every sideways glance I got from my better half as I opened the packages.
