Discontinued Purple-Days Vaporizer

i think the pd will be better then the vapir one i got for next to nothing. i havent had any problems with it, just didnt like the noisy fan, the hot bowls you had to open to stir, or the leaks i had to seal up with tape high temp silicone, and a large rubber strap to cover the bowl.

i cant wait to compair the two, i know the pd is going to blow that out of the water as far as efficiancy and performance goes. but none the less i think the pd will be more of a fit for my current situation where i dont have the room for a larger table top unit such as the ssv.

i gotta brag to day has just been a damn good day for me! even got a job at the new headshop in town

Yes wood is tricky substance, I am the proud owner and responsible for a set of 1910 Ebony Pipes, There are two substances generally accepted as suitable for antique wood:Renaissance MicroCrystalline Wax and the oil mix bore doctor.
I imagine, not being a wood specialist, that the wood Tom offers is highly resilient to this type of thing, but none the less, it can happen at any stage of ownership. This is just something that is intrinsic to the materials used.

Wood is very susceptible to damp and heat. some woods far more than others. A crack can occur due to the different humidity in the climate it is sent from and the climate it arrives at. So for example, send a set of pipes from Florida to The north African Desert and a crack can occur.

Im sure this issue will be sorted ASAP. :-)

TradHead. your mention of shipping from one environment to another is a good point.

Our Cherry is from an arid (dry) part of the USA (Idaho). Although this stuff and our (earliest) Cherry from Boston are both Kiln Dried, it's easy to tell the stuff from High Desert Hardwoods has a lower moisture from the start. High Desert also ships our stuff protected by moisture proof housewrap. They are a fantastic source for us. very nice woods.

Soon as possible I chop this stuff into turnab;e blocks and stack it in breathable bags in a warm and dry part of the house. Getting it into small pieces lets 'relax'. Any mis-behaving should show up better this way, but we have had a couple that developed a minor crack later in life.

Yep, sorted ASAP is what I did.

Purple-Days,
Hello all!

I'm new to the forum as well as to vaping. After reading through 40 plus pages of posts, I decided to place an order for a PD and hope to have it soon. The amount of information that each of you has provided is wonderful. Two weeks ago I purchased a VaporWarez 4G after having used a friend's, which by the way was my first vaping experience. Although I do enjoy the VaporWarez quite a bit, I feel the PD is better suited towards my needs. A majority of the time I will be vaping by myself and I feel that the VaporWarez is not as practical for that reason. I went with the Cherry Paisley model and purchased an extra 3 vapor tubes. The anticipation is building up for the arrival of my PD and I have become quite enthralled with this forum thread. Pammy was great in helping me with customizing my PD a little : )

I look forward to interacting with the forum more and learning more from all of the great people on this forum

i told my friends i made my oder, and they are already trying to line up times for me to come over so they can all try it. funny how such a small piece of art could get such a large welcoming party. i do wish the led was still a feature, and i understand why it was discontinued. i think it still looks great without it.

one question i do have, does the pd smell like wood when its on? not burning or anything, i just have always loved the natural smell of wood.

Welcome slowandsteady. You'll like the PD-not a guarantee, but the odds are with you. ;)

"After reading through 40 plus pages of posts" - Is that all? Get busy and finish off the thread. You're over halfway there.

It shouldn't smell any more like wood when it's on, vs. off. At least I've never noticed any difference.

It does.
That was one of the first things I noticed when mine had gotten to temperature. Perhaps it's more noticeable to me given that I've been working with wood most of my life.
It's rather pleasant actually, as well as being subtle.
It's been something just shy of three weeks since I received mine and the aroma, while still quite noticeable especially while sitting close to my little friend, has lessened somewhat.

Forge ahead Frickr, your new love affair is about to begin... :)

Im on countdown till my PD arrives. Its such a relief and pleasure to deal with these people, polite, honest, friendly. thanks

I notice a few people suggest the price should go up! that says something , but Tom feels that the price is right now... My suggestion would be that Tom has a special PD cozy thats optional, that way if we want to support them with extra business we can., say in leather? or hemp? how about it mr PD? dig the you tube tests! try that with any other Vape!

The wood smell should also vary according to the type of wood. Mine's maple, so I'll attribute the lack of odor to either the wood or my insensitive nose. ;)

i think the smell of the wood would add to the total experiance. i grew up with my dad always working on wood, so its something i have come to love over the years. i feel like christmas has come again! except i dont think tom has a big red sleigh or reindeer.

Again the long days seem worth every effort. Big thanks to everyone. :D

Wood odor does vary according to species. And does diminish with time, of course. Also having worked with wood most of my life, like Sterbo, I find it comforting.

Cherry is very pleasant, Ash has less initial odor but is also pleasant, but different. Maple seemed to have very little odor, if any. Myrtle was so variable from stick to stick that we can't use it, some smelling strongly of Bay leaves (not bad, but not for everybody... (wheelhouse door of a tuna boat?)). Ebony has a peppery smell, and Pink Ivory is mild but indescribable, Cocobolo had a strong rose smell when worked. Tea tree doesn't smell llike tea tree oil at all. Walnut (being tested) has the walnut smell and I am anxios to get one heated up and see how the odor is after a week.

Been having fun with some new tools this week. Thanks to prompting from one of our down under friends I have been trying to improve the vapor stems. One concern is centering of the through bore. A couple of jigs that I made did a decent job, but the best at centering was slow and not as precise as I would have hoped, so I found a pro jig with jaws that repeat precisely every time, Woot! as they say. Fast and precise... The second part of the process, shaping, has come a long way too, getting the right combination of files and sandpapers and the newest final step of stropping with the leather to slick them up nice.

Finally received that aircraft tubing tool I have been after. I'm going to take it to an engineering buddy to show it off. So cool (for the price it should be, lol, but good tools last, and cost less in the end)

Hmmm. Maybe a PD t-shirt, Tater? Just kidding.

wow Tom, thanks for sharing all of that with us! It's really interesting to hear all of the technical details and it's no wonder that this stuff keeps you so busy. I love that you're listening to peoples input on improving things, too...always the perfectionist, eh?

Thank you for saying Woot, as well...that made my day ! Haha I love it.

BTW, a PD T-shirt is about the only mindless piece of endorsement I'd love to be engaged in. Only if it were tie-dyed purple and signed and numbered by you, Pam and the dog. Woot indeed!

Hey, I was just kidding about the T-Shirt... :uhoh:

Yeah, I been to a Dead concert, or think I was, can't remember exactly. You gotta figure an OG like me has done a bit of Tie-Dye (in Mom's basement).

I think Trad has it. light purple with the logo in the pocket area. Maybe "It's gonna be a Purple-Days" on the back. Yeah like I got time for this... haha... (Pammy worked at a screen printer's BTW, like she has any time either... shut up, I need a hot meal once in a while and that other stuff too...)

Since you like the tech aspect PV, check this out.

It's that new 400-F, but that's not where I got it. Big thanks to Store-Quip for excellent service, very helpful.

That centering jig I got was a bit of a surprise. Sometimes you buy and aren't so sure. This jig came from Rockler and was made for woodworkers making wooden pens and mech pencils. After X-mas special I guess, on sale anyway. So when it came I was really taken with the results, and quality of the jig. Of course I will probably never make a pen with it, but for boring the 1/2" PP rod stock... what could be better suited?

Yeah, we listen. And learn from mistakes too. CQ is really tightened up each time something sneaks past. Not likely to happen a second time (i'm a freak about it). Perfectionist, yes, perfect, never. ;)
