if it's anything like the mz, the regular stem makes a perfect seal with 14mm glass.

thanks - do you connect the 14mm glass and stem with a whip or do you hold the PD upright onto the ehle 250ml? I know this is basic stuff but it's an area I'm unfamiliar with.

Just be careful when you stick the PD stem right into the downstem of the bong. Yesterday I was doing that with my new HVY tube. The downstem is really small since it is a tiny tube. When I went to take the PD off of the tube, the HVY stem stayed stuck on the PD's stem.

I pulled it out, it stayed on the PD stem for a half a second and then fell to the floor and broke. I didn't even notice that it stuck to the PD tube because it is so small. I think if I was using a bong with a larger downstem (like my beaker), it never would have happened.

Tstat, a keck-clip would probably solve that problem. Also, simply providing a little pressure on the side of the stem facilitates using the PD as bonging accessory IME.

Has anyone else installed a screen down in the heat exchanger to stop herb from falling down inside the PD? I did this little mod a few days ago and am liking it much better than the "turn upside-down and spank the leather bottom" method.

I've had my PD's for over 2 years and never really felt the need for a screen. First hit at a 45 degree angle and then after that, everything sticks inside the bowl. I spank out a few little specks, but I only do it about once a month. I would be concerned that the screen may act like a little heat sink and drop the temp a few degrees.

Iwien: A screen is relatively low mass compared to the entire heat exchanger. I doubt it would change temperatures at all.

I agree with lwien in not having a need for a screen. After the first hit the herb is nicely glued in there. Also, perhaps its due to the fact my PD is almost always upside-down when in use (i.e. on a bong/bubbler) that its not an issue. But like lwien said, if hitting the PD directly simply tilting it a little seems to solve the problem.

+1 on the 45 degrees.

Once that initial blast of warm air passes through the herb, everything starts adhering to one another into a porous mass, then you can rock the 90 degrees no problem for your remaining couple of hits

Oh yes, the PD will pay for itself very quickly and you'll enjoy using it immensely. It's really a fantastic vaporizer through and through.
A bit of a learning curve but once you get the drift it's like riding a bicycle.
Back to the Ehle/ PD discussion, I think I'm going to get one, however being a complete neophyte in the non religious sense in this area I see that there are a few different models of the same to choose from -

PS - NYCDeisel - saw the photo of your PD and portabilly - very cool little setup.. I have one too but (only out of habit) I'm actually partial to my billy bowl.

^^^ Glad to post that pic, nice combo. I agree, they match nicely, unusual as the other end of the stick the PortaBilly came from was darker. Dumb luck. Myrtle is that way.

HI onox, welcome to the forum.

The Purple-Days website (order page) says 4-6 weeks from Order to Ship time. Pammy repeats that in order confirmations but also lets folks know it is our best estimate, Life (Doctors, Dentists, Friends in Need etc.) can get in the way of estimates.

Pammy was away this weekend with a friend who needed company. Wasn't planned, but needed.

Side note Pammy has asthma and the carpet had to go. Sorry all, this weekend there was no shop time for P-D land. All the carpet and tack strip and dust and dirt and yuck is gone.

Did a 5' x 15' Ceramic Tile test and Pammy approved. Had to wait for her to get away with her friend this weekend for full carpet removal (including furniture moving both ways). This is hard work for an old, old body. Worth it for sure.

JP, I am starting to learn bowls. The Billy-Bowl may someday return. Likely to have an inlay or other feature. I was never happy with the first bowls. I agree the shape of the first Billy Bowl was about perfect but other aspects needed improvement...

The lathe can be a scary tool. Inside work is the worst. Spindle work (outside work) is easy as pie ...

Nice to get some helpful instruction.

Pammy also gave me some nice lathe tools a while back. Now, I might get to use them. I enjoy woodworking, always have.
