Walnut PD shipped today! should be here next week some point
California Clouds said:Okay guys, I need help. I've had a PDP for about 2 months. The build was easy and it looks tits. But I'm spending a lot of time sucking down 3-6 stems. It's not fun either, I feel like I'm fighting a milkshake that's too cold. I've also noticed, when using the PD is in the upright position, that it will kick herb back into the heat exchanger when I stop inhaling and the pressure equalizes. This creates more of a not too stealthy smell...
I've tried at least a dozen high grade strains. I grind them fine, I grind them medium, I mix the two. I picked up a classy little drying bowl, with lid, at a Chinese market and let the herb sit for up to a week. I'll load herbs like I'm using a straw or just tap down on the material. I've tried letting the stem warm up first. I use a slow and consistent draw but I always get tired of sucking and end up frustrated then firing up my Da Buddha.
What am I missing?
On a positive note I feel like this makes a great car vape. I can't get overly medicated and I love how small and ergonomic it is. Regardless of where I use it efficiency is the best I've found. Classy too, I just want to leave this on my coffee table 24/7.

Is it safe to assume that cherry runs cooler and walnut is in the higher vape range.with myrtle in between?lwien said:natural_healing said:which is the best from the cherry, walnut, and myrtle?
There is no best. It all depends on two things. One, which wood do you like the looks of better and two, do you like to operate in the upper vape range or in the lower vape range. It's all personal preference.
lwien said:Nope. Myrtle runs cooler than either Walnut or Cherry and I believe that Cherry runs warmer than Walnut.

385F* +/- a few degrees depending on the wood species**.
* based on comparison with digital readout vapes and a general consensus of folks who have used both and have posted on this forum.
** this is a best guess on wood species temps.
Alder a bit warmer
Cherry and Walnut 385F
Myrtle a bit cooler
Ash even cooler
All well within the Vapor Zone.
Temps are affected by wood density and the difference in R-value (insulation)
Denser than Ash just has too low an R-value and won't hold the heat well enough.

Anyone else notice when there is a dramatic change in weather that your herb will vape different? I have had the same stuff for the last few weeks. I keep it in an airtight storage container so it hasn't dried out too much. Last week my herb was coming out nice light brown. Then all of a sudden a huge cold front hit. Now my herb is coming out just a shade or two away from turning black. Now I would say that it was probably due to power issues with my PD. however I noticed the same thing with both of my PDs. ABV been coming out much darker than I am used to. And on the days where the temp seems to get away from the freezing temps we have been experiencing here.... it goes back to light brown ABV.
Now this isn't a problem with me, just an observation. Just something I notice with my fixed temp vapes. Don't really notice it so much with the other vapes
