PUFFiT portable

Tomorrow my PuffiT will be in the mail off to it's new owner. it was an interesting ride i have had with this unit, but in the end, it just was the one for me. This unit will get you medicated and i will not dispute that fact for people thinking about buying one, it's just not for me.

Well, the manufacturer did get back to me today, so it looks like their CS side works weekends! :)

I've played with my friend's MFLB, but he tosses the AVB and I'm thinking to get the right medication balance from my meds I'm probably going to have to utilize the AVB in some way or another -- even coming near to combustion in the MFLB I don't get the sleepies, and insomnia is one of my main reasons for medicating.

Glad to hear you've got the pros on it. It's not making sense to me yet, please let us know what it turns out to be? TIA.

BTW, the maker is in Hong Kong which may explain the strange schedule. Not only are they most of the way around the world but it's across the date line. I think it's really 3:24 in the afternoon the day after Thanksgiving there right now?

As to using your AVB, I hope your not married to the portable idea? I suggest you save your money for a Herbal Aire. Check it out. Not only will it do fun stuff like blow bags (poor man's volcano), do concentrates and feed your water pipe directly but it will also do a bang up job on ABV since you can dial up the temperature you want with super control. You can roast the AVB until it looks like coffee if you've a mind to all without combustion. By the time it comes out of mine it's not good for much but starting campfires and as a building material.

Best wishes. My guess is you'll like Puffit once it cooperates for you.

Take it off you sig mm...

Keep us posted Mishakal

Isn't there some sort of ceremony we're do for this? I'm sure the Volcano guys have one.....

I guess we could say 'the torch is passed to a new runner', but lack of fire is kinda the whole idea to start with, wasn't it? Nothing is easy these days, fun sometimes, but not easy. Anyway, good luck to the vape in it's new home!

thanks!

also, has anyone tried to paint these to look like other brands of medical inhalers?seems like it would be fairly simple to do with some tape and spray paint, and I'd be interested to see results.

First off, we've PM'd a bit on this folks.

I looked at painting it (something I'd speculated about before getting one) it should work OK but you need to disassemble it to do so since the paint will glue it together (OK if you're not the curious type like me, or don't want to strip it down to clean, which I've done once).

Understand the unit is much bigger than a normal inhaler. Nearly twice. Those familiar with them will spot it I'm sure. Likewise, in use it's not really stealthy, nobody watches LEDs on theirs, starring into the mouthpiece then takes 10 second hits. Folks tend to shake, hit, and put it away in seconds.

Still a neat little guy in many ways but overly deceptive it's not IMO.

what are the benefits of being able to strip it down other than for a more thorough cleaning? the battery is not user replaceable (or is it?) and i don't see any mods that could be made other than maybe a different air flow tube.

That it, I wanted to run a pipe cleaner down the tube (it takes a sharp bend just under the bowl and a near right angle one at the bottom). I didn't want to do the 'alcohol and salt in a syringe' deal as I saw it leaking into the works and didn't want it in any of the three switches, they're not sealed. You need to be confident (you're blowing the warranty remember) and medium good with your hands.

I'm also color blind, that red/green BS is useless to me, misleading even at times. So I modified it with a small hole in the top of the MP (under the plastic shield) and a 'Gorilla Tape' barrier between the two (there are only two colors really) LEDs. Now the green doesn't show in the MP hole and the red and only red shows above. Effectively I have two LEDs I can read regardless of color. That forces me opening it even if I wasn't inclined to do so anyway. BTW, I also cut a window in the cover for the charge plug so you don't have to take that rascal off every time you turn around to charge. Easy to do in place with a pen knife blade.

The battery doesn't plug in, but it does solder in and I can drive a soldering iron with the best of 'em......

now the last part is intriguing. i can solder fairly well. if the battery should fail, do you think that you could find a new one online and solder it into place?

Yup, that's my plan. I like the little fellow and want to keep him around.

Not really because I had to learn what vaping was all about. All the vapes I bought have taught me something. I am so thinking the cera might be up my alley but am still going to wait for more info. I asked some questions that weren't answered as of a few hours ago but we will see. Some were answered of course. The only vape I have right now that I haven't touched in a months is the MFLB. Well and the retired volcano clone which I would have regretted if I bought a real volcano. I got this one off ebay and was very reasonable. It works fine but isn't for me.

ok so i got my puffit today. so far i love it (aside from the plasticy taste, but i'm told that'll fade). however i am having an issue with the mouth piece: they seem to be too small for the unit? the only way i could take it off to charge easily was to put an incision on one side to allow it to slide off easier.

however, when i did this i noticed a gap where i put the cut when i put it back on.

has anyone else noticed this?

criskyftw,
Sure, lots of them. Most have something to offer, a few are total busts IMO.

Don't you have some regrets?

I regret buying the PUFFiT, and yet like OF I think I may keep mine. I like seeing it in my vape drawer, even if I'll never use it.

kingofnull,
The Puffit is now on Amazon if anyone is interested. I'm debating ordering it but I'm not sure if it has all the new accessories, or is the newest version. Only one way to find out I guess...

I would gently prod you towards a different vaporizer if I knew you in real life. Hell, I'd prod you towards a different vape anyways. There's a whole lot of other options out there that have proven themselves to be reliable, if you're willing to spend a little more than the $130 list price.

I can't think of a better way to put it. Don't waste your money.

It's a shame. I had such high hopes for this vape when it was announced.

You know, I had sort of the opposite experience. If you look back I got pretty upset that the design was not 'color blind friendly'......in fact the choice of colors was downright color blind hostile. They used the most commonly confused colors in fact. But basically only in men, so it's sexist too.......

Anyway with all the chatter about it I decided to try anyway and see for myself. And I'm very glad I did. It's not what a lot of folks are looking for I'm sure, but it is a neat and fun little vape that works well.....and that's my experience (not 'truth from the web'). I understand that not everyone has the money to throw at a 'maybe' but IMO it should be considered as there are, I think, a good number of us happy owners?

In fact it's still plugged into the computer from charging last night after I used it on a whim.

I've done a couple of mods to mine that IMO make it more useful (at least to me). First off I filed a shallow notch in the mouthpiece cover to make it easier to get off with a thumbnail. Then I used a pen knife blade to carve a hole in the same piece so you don't need to take the MP cover off to charge. Finally I solved the color issue by drilling a small hole in the top of the MP (under the cover) just above where the LEDs are. I then used a small piece of 'Gorilla tape' to block the green light from the tube (and red one from the hole) so all you see out the top is green....color no longer matters.

I'm not sure about the coil spring upgrade, for now it's back out. It does make for thicker clouds but I think the taste is better and production more uniform with shaking......I keep going back.

I don't think it's all that stealthy, it doesn't have a lot of battery life, and the bowl is small. It's probably not a good 'only vape' choice. But IMO it's a fun and useful little guy, in the same sort of class I'd put MFLB, Vapman, and VG I guess? Those guys are all reasonable performers, fun to use, and roughly the same price. IMO all are worth consideration.
