PUFFiT portable

never implied it should be SOLID GOLD. that would be foolish. I would take Stainless steel over gold plated and silicone.

im just saying, everywhere I look I read that food grade silicone is good up to 500f. this vaporizer set on 8 is designed to reach 430f

say I have a fiendish friend, or a friend who is like 350lbs and 7 feet tall who sucks this thing so hard or hits it so many times that 430 is easily overcome and here we are approaching 500.

why could this contraption not have worked with a 100% metal heat chamber?
why do u have such strong feelings about it?

this is apparently a canadian company, based out of hong kong/ china (for the sake of exploiting cheap labour presumably)

the idea that maybe they could have cheaped out on something seems impossible i know. but they cheaped out on labour, wages, working standards.. ect..

thanks for trying, id say dont quit ur day job, but instead ill suggest applying for one.

Leaving the personal attacks out for a bit, let me try to answer what I think are the genuine questions?

Don't worry about your large friend, he'll have no effect on the temperature control. Either trust me on this or look up 'closed loop temperature control' and sort it out. Not happening. You're choppin' but no chips are flying.

100% metal chambers conduct heat, something we don't want. The materials choices are actually sound from an engineering standpoint, which is why other makes use them too. Clue there.

Because I understand the technology and have respect for a company that takes the risks and brings new options to the marketplace for us to choose from. Why is it you have such strong feelings against them?

You're welcome. Please excuse me, however, if I doubt your sincerity. Thanks for the concern, I'm retired (having worked a lot of years with just his sort of stuff). Not that I really think you were concerned there, either?

This kind of remark is personal, disrespectful, and inflammatory. It adds nothing to your post except to show your contempt. If this is your style, either change it or the next time you'll get an infraction.

I am an owner of the original shipment. iirc, I was the second one in the thread to receive a unit last July (after Dogman). I haven't posted in quite awhile but thought I would give a final update.

I still use the PUFFiT weekly, but not nearly as much as I did the first few months. The taste is certainly still faintly there but much less than it was when it was new. The taste is not really discernible on a fresh bowl, but gets progressively more noticeable the longer you vape the same product. I do think you get "used" to the taste with constant use. After getting used to it the first time I took a break for a week and when I went back to it the taste was as strong as ever. However, I picked it up after not using it for at least a month back in early January and it didn't seem nearly as bad as when I first got the unit and again didn't bother me nearly as much. That said, I pretty much always pop a breath mint or stick of gum after a session to get rid of that lingering aftertaste.

I haven't cleaned the vapor path at all but have ISO'd the bowl and mouthpiece areas several times. After catching up on the last 20 pages or so I'll give the syringe method shot once I get some syringes to do so. Part of me thinks that using it so long without cleaning may have covered up some of the taste, but I don't have any scientific basis for that statement. Others have said cleaning the tube definitely helps with the taste so I'll try it out.

I know OF doesn't believe it's a stealthy device because of the size and how it has to be used to be effective, but I have used in in many public places both indoors and out and have never had as much as a funny glance my direction. Some of the places I have used the PUFFiT include: Disneyland, Sea World, multiple zoos, movie theaters, concerts, standup comedy shows, several parks, several beaches, courthouse during jury duty (yes it went through the x-ray just fine). Realize though that I live in California and have a mmj card so my level of concern about getting caught and something significant happening is very low. OF is correct though in that it only takes once to cause you a lot of grief. If you live in a much less liberal area than I do I might be more concerned with it.

I just read here about people getting parts or their entire units replaced, but I wonder if it is worth it for me to try to do the same after hearing all the nightmare stories about dealing with GV CS. There doesn't seem to be a real consensus on if the "vapor enhancer thingy" works as advertised either. For those that have one is it worth it to get one? I wonder if I could finagle a free one from GV at such a late date.

I guess my final review after about 9 months of use would be a 7/10. A fun little unit, that for me, allows for medicating anywhere at anytime. If it wasn't for the taste and battery life it would def be a 10/10 for me. I have found that I am able to charge it in the car or with a portable power solution pretty easily though so the battery life is less of an issue if you plan accordingly. Remember that you don't have to fully charge it to be able to use it. After a session I immediately put it back on a charger and it's ready for me (green led still blinking though) when I want to have another session.

Any opinions on whether it's worth it to deal with getting replacement parts/unit from a newer production batch/spring thingy?

I lurked here for quite awhile which helped me buy my Da Buddah years ago, but didn't join until this thread popped up. Thanks to all of the knowledgeable and helpful people on this forum.

I currently only have the DBV and the PUFFiT. What should I add to my arsenal next?

mod note: This is the Puffit thread. Please don't steer the conversation to other models you may be interested in.

Wow that is a loaded question valence. I don't think anyone can answer that without you saying what you are looking for. There are a bunch of great new products to choose from. I have passed on some but for no other reason then they might not be right for my usage which is what you have to decide for yourself. The one I am looking at now is the DV Ascent which isn't out yet.

I think it is worth a call to GV to see what they say but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Had a couple of portables before i got the Puffit - primarily for ease and discretion. whilst it maybe bigger than an inhaler folk will generally see what they expect to see and most won't question that.

Had the rubbery taste at first - gave it a clean using Iso and it's near as damn it gone now.

This is about perfect for my needs - having played with it a bit have it set on 4-5 fa during the day = faster heat up time and reheats before i exhale - and then turn it up later in the day.

All i need is 2-3 hits during the day to get me medicated and at that temperature the battery isn't caned to badly so will last me fpr2-3 sessions between charges.

For my current needs the Puffit is spot on - and in a few months the Assent may even be out for me next purchase. Meanwhile a more restricted vaping style was exactly what 'the doctor' ordered!

Thanks folks fa all the advice and suggestions - positive and negative - as it helped me make an informed choice before buying.

So my puffitt won't hold a charge. I plugged it in for hours from several sources, when I unplug it the light just blinks red a bunch of times and won't function futher.

So I guess it's the battery? Can they be replaced? Has anyone done this before is it a hassle or not cost effective. Cuz I HAVE been looking at that Solo.....

Bummer. Sounds like it, it could be the charger circuit of course but the battery makes more sense. All good things come to an end as the saying goes.

I've never done it, but I checked out what's involved. You'll need to be able to solder. The unit uses an unprotected AA size cell with welded tabs, common enough. I think the chances of getting the factory one are slim, I plan to adapt something when my time comes.

You might want to open it up and see what you're up against. Take the screws all the way out (they're long), then separate the two halves. Watch out for the switch tab for cover detection, it's loose and only goes back one way. Good time to clean the tube, too.

Good luck.

I worry that my Puffit died due to inactivity. It really sucks because I didn't get a ton of usage out of it myself. I had to tinker with it for a long time before I finally got the smell to go away, the rubbery taste, and proper vape clouds to form.

Anyway, I go away from vaping stuff for awhile at times for various reasons. Would the Solo suffer the same fate if I'm not using it/charging it every single day and it ends up in my closet for a few months at a time?

I can't answer that question , my Solo has been in use everyday since I got it last July/12 .
You ' may ' come into the same fate as me with my Solo .
But it is solidly built and the battery can be replaced , the battery has a 1 year warranty IIRC .

Too bad about your Puffit ,
Speaking of Puffit ...( nice save )
I got my Solo thru Puffitup.com and highly recommend you contact Randy .

Come over to the other thread .

Thanks for posting the vid! Looks promising, hopefully itll perform a little better then its predecessor.

Anyway, there is a puffit-X thread someone already created. Dunno if it deserves its own thread since it seems like more of an upgrade then a new vape. A la wispr2...maybe a mod can chime in on where future posts belong

I like the fan too , they say it's the First forced air portable . idk
But I imagine that will take away battery power to operate it tho .
It did show visible vapors which were some complaints about the Puffit 1 .

But IIRC ,
It was the horrible taste that they couldn't fix or wash out or get rid of .
I hope that was resolved in the PuffitX .

Didn't know if it had been posted before - got it in an email from DV today. Did a quickie search and can't find a Puffit X thread so...

The taste was there when i received mine - some Iso soon sorted it and now the flavours good if slightly muted. Mind you i have been using it mainly for Nettles LoL ;)

Its in the thread candidates section. At the very top when you click the portables or desktops vapes threads. Thats where all new/upcoming vape threads start for future reference. The thread is listed as puffit-x with the hyphen so thats probably why you couldnt find it. The search option could use some work IMO.

Anyway, im confused by this post. You got it in the "email" from DV today, and then you talk about The taste when you got yours. Do you mean you got an email with info about the puffitX and your talking about the taste of the original puffit? Or are you saying you already have a puffitX

My Bad - the email was from Discreet Vape today that had the Puffit X vid enclosed.

The taste comment was about the Puffit i already own - sorry for the confusion.

I always prefer Version 2.0 or up .
They usually work out the kinks and/or add improvements to it .
So my query about the taste was for Discreet vape or new owners .

Hey guys,

So I recently bought the puffit as my first vaporizer and I have a few questions. I know they've probably been answered sometime before but I can't go through 80 pages of history (sorry). I've been using it with friends, passing it around, but I think we're not using it to it's full potential. Basically, here's what I'm wondering:

1. How much/tight should you pack the bowl? Should I keep pushing the weed down to make room for more? How many grams/bowl?

3. How long should your draw be? Should I pull hard?
3. How long should you hold in your draw?

4. How should I use the battery most efficiently? We've been doing ~15 draws straight, put cap on, empty and pack a new bowl. But that normally only lasts 2-2.5 bowls of weed. What type of rythm should I get into while vaping between draws/session? What about draws/bowl?

5. What's the best temperature? I only really notice visible vapor around 7-8, are they the best?

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks guys
