Hi friends! While I wait for my ZX to arrive I have been thinking about the rest of my system and wanted to get some input from you all. The last time I updated my gear was 6-7 years ago. At the time I was using a dynavap with a fluxer heater and everything I had was 18mm. I basically went 18mm back then because everyone said to :) This year I finally bought nice glass too and switched to 14mm. sometimes a wide open 18mm is a little too loose for me.

When I heard about the 14mm ZX it confirmed my 14mm choice for me because I am learning that screen diameter can really matter for convection microdosing (maybe less with a ball vape). I don't know if I will be able to vape 10-20mg amounts in the ZX but if any ball vape can do it I think the ZX can.

My question is about the ZXXL. It s super interesting to me! My first ball vape earlier this year was a 25mm wireless CH setup with a shovelhead bowl. until the ZX arrives I'm using a matrix bowl with a titanium screen for smaller amounts. I use the shovelhead once in a while for larger loads but its important to me to have the ability to blast guests on demand and it seems like a 25mm wireless might be the way to go for that.

I saw that the ZXXL is 18mm, which means it won't fit in any of my new gear. With the CH stuff I can just choose if I want an 18mm or 14mm joint.

What do you all have for your systems? Do you have a ZX for smaller loads and something else for guests? Do you have to have both 18mm and 14mm glass or are you able to pick a joint size and stick with it?

Did I make a mistake going 14mm instead of 18 with a reducer or something? My ocd hates using adaptors if I don't need to but it beats buying glass in two sizes.

For what little it’s worth, I gravitate towards 18mm glass because the 18mm —> 14mm reducer is so unobtrusive and sleek. I never want to use a 14mm —> 18mm adapter.

I use the zx on the rare occasions I get to share with friends. I think it’s much better for each person to get their own fresh bowl to clear than to load up a huge one to pass around and share. The smaller size is no problem for sharing, since I prefer the smaller 2-3 hit bowls anyway, that’s what I recommend to my friends. It’s no big deal to dump and reload a few times

The ZX will still give you big hits and will be strong enough to leaving your friends tapping out. I wouldn't put too much stock in the size differences. The ZXXL will have a larger bowl capacity. But the ZX will still hit you hard.

do you ever worry about the reducer getting stuck in the glass? Thanks for the input on the ZX with friends! I had a buddy drop by last week for an hour or so and the ritual involved multiple small bowls a person instead of a shovelhead bowl each so there is definitely something to that!

thank you! I thought to buy the fancy zen leaf setup so it would look nice in my living room and the wireless might be handy so people can have comfy seats instead of huddling around a desk. Perhaps the ZXXL is more than I need, since neither I nor my friends would ever have multiple shovelhead sized bowls in a session. Perhaps a wireless ZX of some sort might be a better fit for my use cases. I believe a wireless ZX was designed long ago but was never released but the ZX can be modded into a wireless setup.

If a wireless ZX is not coming anytime soon do you think I should bother getting an extra zx housing and modding it wireless? Or are there better options on the market? what size coil would go around a zx heater housing?

Short answer - no. I’ve always been able to remove a stuck reducer without much trouble. Then again I don’t use expensive glass. Might avoid the reducer if you are using high end glass.

But if you’re in that market for high end glass, just get two rigs

Fwiw - zx uses a 16mm heater coil

thank you! nice glass is relative :) for me that means the CC Calypso and Prophet, not the us artisan made stuff. I used to use a matrix sidecar clone from dhgate for reference. thanks for the heater coil size! if all I need for a wireless zx is a 16mm coil and a heater housing it could be a fun experiment! I suspect that there would actually be more to making a wireless zx than this though. I imagine the best I could do with still be subpar compared to the wired zx.

For me, opposite. The Z bowl usually pulls the reducer out of the glass. Luckily no drops yet, usually stays on. This is when I forget to just use the adapter to pull out for the clear.
Give that adapter a little push and twist at the same time and it should stay in place better 👍

@Fearless Disaster I use a tiny dry 14mm dry bubbler with pretty much all of my heavy hitting vapes. I don't enjoy the 14 to 18 when I need it but it works fine.

I never thought about using the adapter to clear! It would be cool if someone would make a reducer that had a little handle on it like a bowl

Yes, so far everything i’ve used through my 14mm stuff has been amazing, including the shovelhead packed with .2 or .3 grams. I think I was just lamenting the fact that i can’t just drop a ZXXL into this setup to replace the shovelhead.

As a suggestion one might visit the Rogue site and do a search for handles. Many hits return, since I have none and haven't measured things I can't vouch that they will work. It does look interesting, though ...
