From reading over part of this thread and searching myself online, am I right in thinking that Vape World and Ploom are the only two places online to safely purchase a real Pax?

Or you can go to a headshop and buy one there. Make sure to lookout for "clones"

I would say yes. With street level shops (even authorized ones) you run the risk of getting legitimate, but old stock. Some of which do not perform as well as newer models. VapeWorld and Ploom are the best bet.

My local headship sells the Pax for $299 plus I have to pay sales tax. So. Ugh for supporting th little guy. Lol

My local headshop sells them for $250, so there must be some sort of wholesale pricing for retailers.

He could be selling fakes. A lot of stores are selling fakes but thinking they are legit. Saw this a lot when I lived in Fresno, CA

Edit. I'm not saying he is, mind you, just that it COULD be the case.

My first post and finally commenting as a pax user for 2 years. Tried many other vapes: I rate solo as second fav and unless you use butter! I prefer pax for stealth and portable convenience. once you figure out higher than other device cleaning requirements and a way to top up battery away from AC it works every time.

If you know someone with a 3d printer, try the caps I designed and posted on thingiverse: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:320813

I will soon publish myprototye 9v batt booster / dc car adapter so check around december if you want to build your own alternate charging option.

Enjoy,
D

I was a little disappointed when ordering my Pax this evening, in fact it flat out bugs me the more I think about it.

$250 bucks is a lot to choke down these days for a vaporizer, but the Pax for the most part has a pretty sterling reputation so I wanted to get one, especially after the silver Diamond edition was announced. Tonight I took my saved pennies mad money and proudly made my purchase.

Only to discover.... I was going to get hit with an additional $15.62 in sales tax, which is odd considering Ploom is in California and I am in Texas. So unless Ploom has a facility or nexus in Texas there is no reason they should be collecting sales tax.

Then their generous "free shipping" offer, if you don't pay an additional $2.70 for a signature confirmation Ploom accepts absolutely no responsibility if the package is lost or damaged.

Seriously? $250 dollars, and a BS sales tax and you won't even ensure it reaches me safely? What does a signature confirmation have to do with it? Isn't that what shipping insurance is for?

I still placed my order, but I almost feel like a shell game has been played on me the more I mull it over. Their free shipping is offset heavily by a sales tax that should only be charged to California residents and a signature confirmation fee. If you want the Diamond edition Pax you have to go through Ploom directly, and with some of the stories I've seen on the warranty, you only want to order from Vapeworld or Ploom directly to make sure you don't run into any issues there.

Hopefully when it arrives I'll feel better about the experience, I just don't like unforeseen BS charges.

Oh, BTW. I plugged in my other address in Oregon (a state with no sales tax whatsoever) and it still tacked on sales tax. Seriously Ploom? Then I found this in their FAQ.

All orders are subject to local sales tax.

Just wanted to vent, and share if anyone was thinking of ordering so they don't get blindsided when going through the checkout.

Wow, that is strange about the sales tax. I ordered direct from Ploom, albeit over 2 years ago, and it did not charge me sales tax as I am in tax free NH. I agree, I don't think they are supposed to charge you CA State sales tax. It's subject to your local sales tax. You should call them, maybe they have a problem with their online ordering system. I would imagine it could cause them a nightmare if their accounting system is incorrectly accounting tax charges.

Anyway, you will be happy when it arrives, that is for sure. It's a great device and I will never go without one.

I could be mistaken but I thought I heard that California changed their laws requiring Cali based company's to collect tax even if it's shipping out of state.

So let me ask the collective here... I am about 5 months into my warranty Pax (first one worked for well over a year) and I'm wondering if the official owners group here still subscribes to using the dental brush to clean the spring mechanism? The only reason I ask is I notice Ploom still doesn't mention anything about this in the cleaning method. Not like I'd expect them too as I assume they'd rather you don't put anything in there but the lubricant, just wonder if I should still clean it the way I used to which as I remember about 200 pages back people saying to do for spring/mouthpiece healthiness.

Getting set up to clean it for probably the 3rd or 4th time on this replacement, and don't think I've used the brush on the spring. My first Pax I never used any lube on the mouthpiece. I kept it clean and I don't think it caused the failure of not heating, but maybe? I bought my first Pax earlier than when they had the lube included as part of the cleaning process.

So lube or not to lube? That sounds dirty lol... (pardon me I'm severely vakeorized) I mean to BRUSH or no brush...

Edit: also if you use iso on the brush. I'm paranoid about iso getting on the temp button.

Read it all but still couldn't find a definite answer.. whats the best smell proof case for the pax? I used it and came home and my gf was bia-tching about the smell... Also any cleaning tools? I just bought a wooden ear wax remover stick but was wondering if a steel one would work better?

About the Ryot case... I don't know if I have a nose of a canine but when my friend used his pax and put it inside the case and in his pants I could smell it. I guess Ill just have to get one of those smell proof zip lock type bags and get a ryot case as well. Hopefully itll fit inside.

Got a RYOT small hardcase today. Just wanted to show you guys that its a perfect fit for the Pax. Although it contains most of the smell, you can still smell alittle bit. Esp if you have a sensitive nose. Just a disclaimer.

Nice case, does the zipper metal lining come in contact with the Pax at all? Just curious if there is any scratch potential there.

No it does not get it contact with the lining of the zipper, literally about a cm of clearance on both ends. Hope that helps.

I put the Pax in my jeans' small watch pocket while I was driving tonight, and it fell out and landed on pavement when I stepped out the car. Ended up with a few dents on the aluminum body. Lesson learned: NEVER PUT YOUR PAX IN JEANS WATCH POCKET!

Nerveless, it still works like a champ.
