Another question, does pax really need lube?

Depends who you ask. I don't think it does.

I have owned 2 Pax for 2 years and I have never used lube of any kind. Both work flawlessly.

In between regular cleanings of the Pax, if the mouthpiece gets sticky or the temp light issue happens, I clean the mouthpiece by stuffing a qtip doused in iso into the metal tube (after taking some of the cotton off). Then I stuff a dry qtip in.

In my experience a clean mouthpiece does not need lube. Others have had great luck using the lube though.

Yea I understand.

I think your missing what part of the taste we are talking about.

After I clean I thought I was getting a slight ISO taste...BUT there is no way after hearing from people, I am surely over-cleaning and being over-cautious.

The taste we are talking about is right after I clean pax, the first 2-5 hits have a sweet taste. What @Wizsteve was saying is perhaps it is the lube getting hot which would explain why I only get the taste on the first few hits, but ONLY on the first pack after cleaning....I don't get the taste with every pack, I know what buds taste like.
I do understand, I'm just reiterating my experience with taste with the first bowl after a cleaning.

I, personally, don't notice any "sweet" taste even using the lube.

I guess the only thing I could see happening without lube is maybe, just maybe, the two metals rubbing against each other without lube, sheds off tiny pieces of metal...maybe?

@Wizsteve Let me get this straight...

The pax lube is water soluble and why is it giving me the sweet taste? Are you saying because some of it gets heated up once pax is cleaned? Is this bad to inhale?

You use non water soluble? Why? What's the benefit? Wouldn't it still heat up?

yes some of it is being vaped i would guess ,is it safe? as far as we know it is.

the stuff i use will not melt under that temp has 500 degree melting point so it stays there.
what's benefit? seems to make a better seal protects those parts from getting gunked up (resin can't stick to it)i also use on the button which protects it during cleaning.

it works so well if fact i don't use iso ,i just take some bud and push it thru the stem and i am done.

Interesting. You push bud through the stem???

How do you clean the oven, screen, and lid, without ISO?

yep i pull the month piece off push thru the oven ,the screen i just wipe with bud and same for bottom of oven sides i leave alone or may smear some fresh honey oil on the sides of the oven .

lid i also just wipe with bud .(i do need to heat up the pax before i remove the screen )

i like mine to be well seasoned seems to make oven loads last alot longer

What do you mean you clean your pax with bud and oil? How? Pax usually has build up that needs to be cleaned, not rubbed in with more bud...

How does bud clean it???? What are you pushing the bud with when you push it through the oven?

a thin wire electric or piano wire works

i wipe off any resin/oil with bud under screen and the screen itself

honey oil i use on the sides of oven not to clean but to add taste and to increase time loads last

I'm sorry I'm not getting it...

How would rubbing a dry piece of bud, a nugget, clean resin and charred bud that is stuck to the screen? You never use ISO?

How would rubbing oil on the sides help? I though putting oil in the pax will make things messy quick...

...I aquired a Pax and have been disappointed....I might as well have bought an Atmos Raw for $200 less...

...this unit is combusting the material and leaving lots of trisomes visable under a scope...

....you could say it has harshed me mellow....

...it is at the low setting but it is scortching the herbs and not vaping the resin...

...the herbs were grown outdoors last year and a bit dry, but it is not bad at all...

...the first hit or two have an OK taste but even after much shaking to redistribute herb and scorched taste there are lots of green bits with white fuzz left in the clearly combusted material...

...this thing has left a bad taste in me mouth... (grin)

...I don't think I will be using this device...

...will ploom accept returns...???...

charred bud i will use a tool like razor blade or knife and scape it off the screen ,resin i use bud to wipe it off .

i use a thin layer on oven walls no problems with mess

...wow...broke the first time out...

...it was on the high setting out of the box and not the medium setting as specified as default...I didn't think that was significant...

...I think I will mesure the temperatures on GP before sending it off to be sure it is broken and not just lame...

...I would prefer a refund to another pax at this point fer shur...

Honestly sounds like you bought a counterfeit...where did you buy it?

If it's legit, you got unlucky and your unit is broken. Pax is great.

@Wizsteve I just cleaned my pax and tried rubbing a nugget against the screen and oven...this did absolutely nothing. What am I missing? Does your pax look brand new after a cleaning? The only way for me to get my pax like-new, is to use ISO....

Also how so you clean the inside of the vapor tube (mouthpiece and body) with nugget? Are you just pushing weed through? That's a super small nugget and I can't even figure out how you do this effectively.

What other cleaning methods can be used without ISO? This washing with bud makes no sense to me.

...it is a pretty good counterfeit if so...

...I bought it at a brick and mortar store in ME so hopefully (?) I am unlucky... (WTF! )

okies thats where the sweetness is coming from you might be getting some in the stem .

there lube is pg used in e cig juice and would taste sweet if vaped

i avoid that stuff since it drys up and turns sticky (i use food grade lube for coffee makers work so much better)

You sir were correct! This morning I cleaned without lube and NO sweetness! Now I can stop stressing about inhaling ISO residue!

I know I asked this already but do any pax users avoid lube entirely? I am using my pax right now without lube...it works fine but is there any harm using pax without lube?

I fear that the metals rubbing might break off tiny pieces that get inhaled, is this possible win pax design? I am talking about when I press the mouthpiece to pop up, would this cause friction that breaks off tiny pieces of the metal?

So I bought my Pax a long time ago, before they were supplied with lube. I used mine almost daily- sometimes way more than daily- and struggled with the temp light issue constantly. I used to keep a bunch of toothpicks with my Pax so I could jam one in between the case and the mouth piece, then break it off. I cleaned it plenty, and eventually knew about the lube and that I should buy it, but never got around to it. The device ended up dying after a year and a half of fairly hard use, I don't think related to the mouthpiece at all. It just wouldn't heat up at all one day. Ploom sent me a brand new kit with lube and now I use it and haven't had the temp light issue.

So I believe you could use it without lube, but you will have temp light issues.

I have never had the temp issue....maybe I'm lucky. My pax works perfect without lube...I just worry about the metal rubbing together more than anything.

sorry the pax produces big clouds but the taste is really bad... in my opinion ... also normally if i hold the vapor in my loungs from my volcano for a longer time there is no visible vapor but thats not happening with the pax there is vapor... also i am becoming head ache (last second times) ... i am also a bit curiouse couse on the ploom page they state they tested the vapor and know of what it is composed but don t want to make it public... it is to much plastic in this device look at the fu.... oven door it made out of plastic and it is getting really hot sometimes and yeah thats your airpath, hmmm tasty.... and yes it a special plastic maybe which is made for high temperatures but not for vaping maybe for the car industrie... and it s possible in my opinion that there are toxics which aren t studied now releasing.... yeah i know you paid a fucking big sum of money and maybe thats why you are defending it and there is no real perfect portable vape.... thats my opinion maybe my pax is defect i can t tell you and yours is good... but tastewise the pax (mine) is one of the worst vaporizers i know... you can t even say which herb you loaded in it always tastes the same...

I love the taste of pax. But I hate the thought of inhaling plastic...where do you see that they won't release a report? I was under the impression that the plastics were BPA free and heat resistant plastic...what that means? I don't know.

What is in your vapor?
The vapor has been extensively tested in the laboratory. Consistent with FDA guidelines, we do not at this time comment on its composition. We can say that Ploom vapor is not smoke, because it is created by gentle heating (vaporization) rather than combustion.

did you use other vapes then pax... can you distinguish which herb you smoke... or does they all taste the same... in my volcano and cera vape i can... the pros of the pax in my opinion are dense vapor and no lerning curve and design... thats it.....

Pax is the only herb vape I have had. I can taste the difference in herb types in my pax but I have nothing to compare to.

Are you saying you like pax more than the volcano? The volcano and vaporbrothers original are on my list to check out...I want safe and non toxic. It worries me why ploom won't publish "what's on the vapor". I worry about the plastic releasing fumes. I also worry about what might be burning off in the lube. If I can taste the sweetness from the lube, I must be inhaling it's fumes. There is a lot to have reasonable concerns over...

no i find the volcano much more better.... more efficient... taste you really taste what u are smoking (first bag wow....)... i now ordered an e-nano (log vape)... here on fc there are people which have much more experience and vaporizers then i... but the pax is taste wise the worst vape i own...

The lube goes on the little slider piece. There is metal to metal contact all throughout the inside of the mouthpiece because it overlaps the metal tube inside the unit. So it's not lubed up anyway.

Actually, it is lubed up. Your supposed to put lube on the outside of the mouthpiece stem and a little drop on the inside of the mouthpiece stem.

I only do the outside never had an issue what so ever. Nor the sweet taste. Try just using the lube on the outside see if there is still a taste

Am I being overly paranoid or is there any chance that without lube on the inside, that little pieces of metal may be releasing from the friction of the two pieces?
