Ah, yeah, I actually kind of started regretting my decision to grab the Clear over the Ion. I hope I'm not disappointed considering I just dropped $400 on it!!

The ion and the clear are both awesome, I can't see you regretting either of them unless you don't like lots of diffusion.
I just tend to prefer the solo with smaller volume pieces. (The solo will milk up anything you throw at it though

My main concern is having too much difficulty with the draw. How difficult do you find it with a PVHEGonG (if you have one) on the Clear and how does it compare with the Ion?

Yup, they both draw the same.
The ion seems to me to be basically a scaled down version of the clear (not including the base) so since everything is equally smaller, it seems to equal out to a very similar, if not identical hit.
With the solo, IME the key is to not try and pull your hardest to overcome the resistance, just pull however hard feels sorta neutral.
You won't get as crazy stacking as a free flowing vape like the LSV, but it'll work very nicely.
I find if I try to pull really hard with the solo, my lungs don't like the (negative?) pressure, and I feel like I run out of breath way faster than a nice, smooth slow draw.
I haven't used my solo with my matrices in a while, but from what I remember, the key is how hard you pull.
If you pull hard, it will feel more restricted, if you pull gentle(ish) it will feel fine.
I always use my pvhes gong with my glass (my pvhes is 18mm and so is a majority of my glass), but I get very similar results with my home modded HES. I just dremmeled a few grooves on the lip of a regular gong stem. If you want any more info on that just PM me or do a bit of digging in the solo thread.

Giving the glass a PBW wash today. Just wanted to say if you have a Cloudbuddy you can use the piece that clears your hit as a stopper so you can fill up the can and the mouthpiece to the edge with water. I think it looks cool and it makes it a lot easier to get the top of the can clean.

Yeah I figured I would share it. Its a pain in the ass to clean, but this way you just tilt your ion/clear and itll chug the water to the can fills, then you fill your mouthpiece part and your good.

Got my Ion Matrix on Monday and so far absolutely thrilled with the performance. First Mobius piece. Very smooth to rip, so effortless. Actually loading smaller dabs than I was with my last piece(GBD Fritted Sidecar bub), because when I was loading the same "size" it was too much for me in one rip. I wonder why that is? Maybe the smaller can size of the Ion, who knows. I can dab less and still get where I want, win-win!!

Just pulled the trigger on a Ion Matrix from ALT. I cant wait to test it out with my Pax and soon to be Nimbus. I didnt viee the entire thread but does anyone have any tips on cleaning?

It was my only piece of glass, other than the shitty one I am using now that was in the garage...thanks for the thoughts, tree. My question is, can I still make use of that perc? Would it be worth the time or money to take it to a blower to reconstruct a can around the perc, or is that kind of stuff more money that it's worth?

For the price you will have to ask a blower but it's up to you to decide, personally I get attached and I don't like to throw thing at the garbage. Obviously it's going to look different, maybe a lot different, than the original. Maybe you can realize a crazy custom and turn this into something awesome.
I broke the male joint of my matrix disc face once.. So painful like a stab in the heart
Luckily it got repaired, took like 2 months, find blower, ship, wait a month for the work, then the ship back. At least it's perfectly functional, aesthetics 90%, there is two videos of this piece on my channel, you can see the repair, the first one was before the accident.
He still hits like a beast. Of all my collection it's the best air flow I have, but not the most convenient piece to hit.

It looks like only the mouthpiece is broken off and part of the base? The intake joint, downstem, etc look undamaged? If there's no big cracks in the can it looks like a blower could replace the base and add a new mouthpiece relatively straight-forwardly, though you'd have to ask them what it'd cost and they couldn't 100% guarantee a successful repair (though this seems relatively minor).
I bet it'd be far cheaper than buying a new Ion, anyway.
