Just so Dab HAppy!
I think the taste is comparable to other portable vapes, like the Crafty/Mighty... IMO, it tastes pure and clean, usually without any foreign tastes mucking up the herb but the flavor isn't as strong, possibly because its such a smaller amount herb and sometimes when the herb sits or gets too hot, then it doesn't taste as good as the C/M. When the unit has been on for awhile, I can detect a little silicone taste probably coming from the bottom of the air intake where there is a piece of silicone tubing that connects the air intake holes with the glass vapor spiral and / or its coming from the seal around the cup/chamber but it's still good to me..... the ESV and same with the miVape but they both can also produce great tasting vapor and provide even heating too, IMO.
I can't speak on the Crafty/Mighty, but there is no way you can compare this to the ESV when referencing taste. I don't taste silicone in the ESV ever. I don't taste herb that has sat or gets to hot (conduction). The ESV provides two different arrays of taste...either pure delicious record of your herbs or combustion. There is no between with instant heat like the ESV.
I am also thinking that is part of MY particular problem with the taste produced by the miVape. I think of convection as instant heat to the herbs only upon draw. Regardless of the heater being instant or not, the hot air should be created far enough away from the herbs that they don't heat(conduct) and the instant the hot air hits the herbs they should cook(convect). This is what I expected from the miVape but it is not what happens. I use the Daisy at home and the ESV on the go. Both of these vapes provide true instant convection. Perhaps the reason they taste so good is because they are instant which eliminates the possibility of any conduction.
I will say, the miVape performs much better and can produce true convection if it was done slightly differently. I have used it the past two days with the 18to14 adapter. There is a picture a few posts up. This method provides true convection. I wait for the miVape to heat up and then I insert the adapter and get instant hits with great cloud production. I tend to run a temp of 335ish give or take 15 degrees as I am playing around with it still to find best results for flavor. I get pretty even medium-dark brown ABV except for the very backend is light brown typically. The taste is getting better but I still get something I'm not liking. I can see the white insulation behind the glass heating chamber is starting to yellow/brown ever so slightly.
Vapornation will not return or exchange a used vaporizer and I don't think they should have to. I am pissed off at myself for dropping as much money without doing more research first. I would love to hear feedback/responses to our posts from Dan to hear if he plans on furthering the progression on the miVape or not. If he does and he intends on using the suggestions from the FC community then great and I'm onboard. If not, I really just want to bury my head in sand since I can't get a refund.
