Well, this is disappointing:
I received my new miVape yesterday. I got it too late in the day to actually try it (needed to charge for 3 hours first) but I thought I would check out the various components. When I tried to slide one of the bowls into the mouthpiece slot, it was VERY difficult. I didn't force it, took my time, and it eventually slid in. I thought perhaps that such a snug fit was a feature rather than a problem. This morning, I went to remove that bowl in order to give all the parts a once over with an iso-dipped swab. When I went to remove the bowl from the mouthpiece, it slid out very easily. Then I realized that was because the rim of the bowl had broken off in the mouthpiece's slot. I was able to pry the broken rim pieces out of the slot. In the interest of science (repeatable results, etc) I tried the other bowl. It slid in and out easily with no mishap. Don't know whether the slot (too narrow to handle variation in rim size) of the bowl rim (outside of spec) is the problem. I have emailed Vaporfection and await their response.
UPDATE:
I received both a phone call and an email from Dan @ Vaporfection less than 2 hours after I emailed them about my situation. I call that pretty damn good CS from the President/CEO of a company that is in the middle of a product roll-out AND a remediation of faulty product.
Dan's feeling is that I was a victim of a manufacturing anomaly and bad luck. He is sending me replacement parts (both mouthpiece and cups) which will hopefully get out in today's mail.
Also, he explained to me that one of the things they modified for miVape V2 is that there is a small tab in the slot for the bowl that is designed to keep it in place once inserted. So when you are sliding the bowl into place there should be VERY slight resistance and then it should slide easily. That is how it is working with my other, unbroken bowl.
Dan was EXTREMELY pleasant and helpful. He offered some tips for usage once I'm up and running. I asked him about the idea we were discussing here earlier about a spacer in the bottom of the cup. He confirmed a thought I had yesterday that you could use one of the waxy oil cloths for that purpose. He also mentioned picking up a small glass screen. BTW, the ceramic screens from VaporBros. are WAY too big.
I understand that people are frustrated with the miVape's manufacturing/shipping delays and growing pains. But as has been mentioned before, plenty of other vapes have had similar rough starts. I will be sticking with Vaporfection. Based on my experience today, I feel they are a company that is deserving of my support and I very much want to see them succeed.
My plan is to provide a full review once I've put the miVape through its paces. Can't promise that will be before next week, though.
