Discontinued MistVape Touch

Spent some quality time with my Touch at the weekend.:D I was having so much fun, I used much more herb than I would normally. I was just enjoying using it too much. I'm using the LG Brown HG2's and whilst the batteries are all about 7 months old I'm getting lots of bowls ( too medicated to count) Battery life is very good, with great flavour which lasts well into the session.

I was messing around trying a bit of ' carbing ' (blocking one of the air intake holes with a finger) while drawing . Which seemed to increase the heat and produce more vapor. I'm new to all of that and I'm sure they are more experienced users who can add to this. Again it's another feather it the Touch's cap showing it's versatility and power.

Due to the lack of feedback when using the Touch through water I simply held the button until I saw vapor, then released button and continued to inhale. I had no problems milking up my bubblers, I just stayed on the button for a little longer, it was that easy!

I have the new female screen beta mod by Dave which was supposed to be more durable. I know a few users had mentioned that they had pushed in the inner screen (above the coil) and were able to replace it themselves. In the interests of science I thought I'd have a little nose. I got a wooden dowl and pressed down firmly on the screen. It all felt very solid and secure and I am confident that this will not be an issue at all moving forward.

I have watched this Thread from the beginning and it's great to see how it has evolved and how things have been addressed. The addition of the 'Kill switch' is another great 'touch';) which again just gives you that extra piece of mind when carrying your Touch on the go.

I made a trip to my local hardware store and bought 8 O-rings for all my stems. They were only 20p each and a very good mod (as per the Vape Dr ) to stop any lip-stick moments and to hold the stem in more snugly and they look quite cool. (see p.31 of his thread)
Well worth doing.

Dave ( or anyone else) what do you recommend putting on the Touch to preserve and condition the wood?
I was thinking of making a homemade wood butter using beeswax and coconut oil. Just wanted to see what you guys recommended.

that sounds good for the wood conditioning. I use mineral oil and then a little beeswax a couple days later. Buff it with a brush (like a shoe brush) and some paper towel or cotton.

Finally made a "plus" sign with a brass bar that fits my soldering iron. So it is a wood burner and I can mark the battery doors rather easily.

I believe this was originally suggested by @sickmanfraud, thanks.

I'm in the 20's now so have a question about the cups. I really don't do well with installing flat screens and have given up on that. It makes it difficult to do 2 screens even if 1 is a cup. So for the 2 screen method with the mistvape can you use the deep cup and the shallow cup combo to make that work? If not, what might work.

Hi little maggie, yes you can use the deep cup screen on the bottom and the shallow on the top. Remind me and I'll send you a push stick, makes installing the low profile cup screen on the bottom pretty easy.
The nice thing about using two low profile screens is that ever so often you switch positions and it cleans the bottom screen having it on top. You vape it clean. Alan told me about it and it works great. At the moment I'm using the stir tool and that also works great but you have to clean the bottom screen occasionally. No big deal.

@mistvaporizer I am having an electrical problem problem and I noticed a possible design flaw. It may be better characterized as a place that could use improvement rather than a flaw.

"Flaw" first since it concerns all of us MVT users. On the Battery door closer (esthetically a big improvement) the edges on both sides of the metal strip seem to snag battery wrappings. Many of my newer LG HG2 batteries have divots taken out of the protective wrapper.

The non-technical genius will now proceed to tell how I suggest to solve the problem.

I would think that a little sandpaper and a few minutes of time could soften the wooded edges and make them more rounded.

Now my issue. My MVT does not want to heat-up on a consistent basis. Sometimes the MVT will heat-up and many times it will not.

If I install the battery upside down the coils get red hot, but with the battery properly installed (and fully charged) I still get almost no heating.

Anything I could try to fix myself?

Volute of Vapor
The Touch was slightly less used with flowers this last weeks cause I was testing some others vapes. But since yesterday I use it on a regular basis and was in the need to use mini load cause I was sick and my throat wasn't able to handle too much terpènes/vapor. With very small load (a pinch) there is no bad over heated taste but only pure tasty vapor (yes my nose is not anymore clogged by the flu) although I used it at my desktop like a log (stir every 2 load, rotate when not stirred) and mainly with a bubbler.

I'm still thinking the production unit is hotter at same battery level than the beta test unit although I'm able to manage this extra heat using every small flowers load for the first bowl or a concentrate bowl.

Can I add, even if off-topic, my favourite MistVape unit is the original regulated MistVape, quality thick vapor from a pinch also, very nice for the morning with a cup of coffee.

Yo, I thought it was working ok when you first got it? Or something is out of allignment.
The problem is your relative humidity concerning the battery fitting. Rounding the entrance won't help.
The MI I got the HG2's wouldn't fit at first. I though it was a mistake. The next day they fit fine.. I' m sure the hole is the right size since it's a fixed size drill bit. It's your local.
Anyway if you need it sanded and want the wiring etc. checked bring it over here no problemo. :brow:

@sickmanfraud (you don't like Sigmund?, never mind don't want to get you started)
The divots in the battery are due to the rounded part of the copper strip, it pushes the battery down as it passes over the battery. I have been thinking about this one for some time but can't come up with any solution. On the other hand I have seen some marks on the battery but haven't had the protective cover on the battery damaged except cosmetically.
As far as your electrical problem I suggest putting pressure on the top of the battery door with the battery in. Does that fix it. If so then the battery connection isn't tight. I'm pretty sure this is the problem. The rest of the unit is running digitally so if there is a problem (other than power source) it won't work at all,- works this time, doesn't work next time- won't happen.
I believe you have the battery door that is angled on the edge. These work nicely but were very hard to fit. I went to a tongue and groove design which is harder to make but easier to fit and I believe better long term.
If pressure on the battery door works then you need to add a tiny bit of material to the side of battery door.
One possible solution is to paint a layer of super glue along the edge and let it dry several hours. You will have to go slow and do layer by layer of glue until you have enough pressure on the battery. Too much glue and the door fit may become very tight and you risk cracking the frame wood.
@sickmanfraud (this is an edit so I wanted to make sure it caught your eye), The other possible problem is the cathode connection on the bottom of the battery. Use a smallish flat blade screwdriver and put it into the battery compartment on the side so it does not touch the central connection but is on the wood bottom of the compartment. Then slide it sideways to see if it hits the copper connector in the bottom (please do not press down on the copper connector). The copper piece in the bottom should be sticking up a little (about 1.5 mm) as long as it is above the surrounding wood it is good. If for some reason yours is stuck down that would be a problem. Again if it was stuck down the unit would not work at all but it worth looking at.

On another note, @soulfulrebel.MC mentioned how quickly he got his Touch. Just wanted to say there was another UK delivery but it took two months - 60 days not 4 days - so I try to ship em quick but once they are in the system it could be fast or really slow. I have to say there has only been the one issue where it was really slow. Most shipments have been very fast.

Thanks for the reply. I will try to follow your steps and see if I can get my MVT working.

I will report back either way.

@sickmanfraud here are a couple pics to illustrate checking the cathode connection. This is a cut away part that I used when designing the connections.
egmdan8.jpg

You can see the copper connector and spring in the bottom of the battery compartment.

PUjwFBJ.jpg

here is a screwdriver blade in place testing the height of the copper connector.
Also check the surface of the copper, does it need cleaning?

Ah yeah I noticed that recently with the batteries and the copper bump (a flake of copper from my bump actually seems to have chipped off? but still works) damaging some top wrap, but if you turn the battery a bit and are careful to slide it over only when it is smooth vs forcing it then there shouldn't be any damage.

I did also notice last night I couldn't get any heating at one point with one battery though it seemed to work before and was still plenty charged, will see if it happens again. Definitely wasn't the unit bc another battery worked fine, maybe a tighter fit and the other was just in looser, so I suppose that is a concern when using the technique I mentioned above...

So, I noticed my MVT was the model used on the website...

Decided to bust her out tonight after seeing that... and... I got my technique down!

I guess I was just being stubborn before. I feather the button a lot more than with my Milaana, but I guess it's because of the extra space in the Mi. The taste and vapor is actually really great for how little herb is used.

I'm sorry for being a stubborn jerk. I'm coming around now... :)

Woooooooooooo! I have lots of thoughts on that front.... That's for another thread my friend, but you will certainly enjoy and I am interested in hearing your thoughts.

I am curious on the progress of the wood stems @mistvaporizer was making.

I actually had my MVT for sale on reddit, embarrassingly enough... but I'm taking it down... I'm just debating whether or not to hit up @Alan for one of these fancy glass-lined tubes I see other people with...

I'm sure you'll be seeing me around in that other thread here soon :D don't worry still got the Spalted Jr  just didn't need both

Yea I'm curious about that as well. I think a couple of testers have them right now. I'm with you though. Would love to get one of those and some stems from Alan.

And I saw that haha. I thought about putting a little frowny face on there haha glad you changed your mind. I swear it hits like the UD once you get it down

I decided t0 stop storing the MVT with the battery in to reduce stress on the bottom cathode.

Last night I put a battery into the MVT and it heated up. I believe that a bit more pressure may be needed by the battery to make a connection 100 % of the time.

I want to confirm, before I mess something up you are suggesting crazy glue to add a bit more pressure on the battery. You are talking about "painting" with crazy glue to add thickness?

Would clear nail polish accomplish this? It dries fast, has a brush for application and can be applied in multiple coats relatively quickly.

Also, what would you suggest to clean the connector on the bottom (cathode connector)?

Thanks for your help in sorting this out.

pencil eraser to clean the cathode connector, use a flashlight to look at it. If it is greenish then it needs cleaning. I am guessing it is fine if you have it working now.
Nail polish might work I suggested crazy glue just because I know it is pretty tough stuff when dry.
You might try sliding a piece of paper (or a couple thickness) between the side of the door and the frame to see what adding material to the side of the door does for you.

@muunch the wood stems didn't seem to make much of an impression. Personally I am kinda of heavy on the button (too many cigars! although I haven't had one since January) so my idea was to make the bowl on the wood stem sit higher so it didn't get hit too hard from the coil. I was able to easily get nice brown abv without charring. Testers seem to be able to do this with standard stems so I don't think my stem design is that great.

@soulfulrebel.MC just noticed your avatar, nice! There were some really amazing units in this batch. They are all pretty but a couple were really pretty, I guess you got lucky. What, was it your birthday or something.
