I think I have something like that . It probably came with one of my vapes but I never used it. Hopefully it's in my accessory box. I guess I'll have to try both methods , for the benefit of the FC community of course :science:

I'll start by stating that I bought this vape mainly for nostalgia. I wasn't expecting it to compare or compete with the modern technological wonders that we are accustomed to using these days. I enjoy rotating my vapes for their subtle "vape signatures " as well as their unique designs and aesthetics. My collection is about diversity. Personally, I thought it would work similarly to a Vaporgenie, and I suppose it does. The look and feel are just what I was hoping for and the fact that they package it with a case, lighter, extra basket screens, pipe cleaners, wooden stash tube filled with stirring toothpicks { it is a standard toothpick holder :) }, is nice to see. Too many companies would simply sell all of these separately as accessories.

What might not be obvious from the diagram of the vape is how the air path holes are staggered. The depth of the basket hole is twice the height of the basket itself and the lighter hole is drilled diagonally down to the bottom of the basket hole. the airpath then goes up thru the basket , exiting thru a higher hole to the end of the mouthpiece. simple, but there are some drawbacks. If you draw to hard , the heat from the flame will start to combust. 🤢 This is never going to be a flavor chasers choice. So far my best effort was to take few hard pulls without a loaded basket in an attempt to get some initial radiant heat into the soapstone just prior to using. also going a little slower than I thought I needed to and taking more draws. You can't rush this without consequence. I tried the recommended "no grind" without much success ,then some finer grind which was also not great. I think a course grind will probably work best, time will tell. No worries, I like sipping on some vapes as much as I like taking big rips off others.

If the old school pipe and lighter feel is what you are looking for , then I don't think you will be disappointed, but it's no Tinymight

Hi There, thanks for being the guinea pig... I decided to hold off from purchasing one due to the comment of soot health issues from a regular flame. Are you seeing any issues of this?

I've only used it twice so far so it's too soon to tell. I definitely had a small amount of combusting due to user error and it remains to some degree
I'm honestly no too concerned with health issues from the lighter since I use premium butane and won't be using this vape heavily. I'm sure I did much more harm durning the decades of smoking thru pipes, bongs, one hitters... and all using bic lighters.

I made several more attempts with the Magicstone with mediocre results. Unfortunately I could not find a concentrate disc but I did try some glass balls as a diffuser. Once inside of a Fury dosing capsule, then loose filling the bottom of the basket hole with as many as would fit beneath the herb basket. The dosing capsule was terrible but the loose balls might have potential. I was having trouble getting any vapor and so I removed the balls and still had very little vapor , and then I got combustion. :puke: Later , I tried again without the glass balls and still had little success and a bad taste even though I could see no visible signs of combustion in the herb. Frustrated, I grabbed my Tinymight and to my horror, I got very poor vapor ( that was a first :hmm:) . turns out that my newest strain was so moist and sticky it didn't produce much vapor... Not wanting to be disappointed again so soon, I went straight for my trusted Vapman and was instantly reminded of how amazing a flame powered vape could be.

Next day I tried again natively with the same results. I'm realising that my best success so far has been to take much longer, slower draws without pulling the flame in too far. I need to try again with the glass balls which hopefully will make an improvement. My best experience so far was using my Grasshopper inserted into the basket hole and using the firehole as a carb. I do like accessories for my Hopper, but I won't give up on the Odyssey just yet. Definitely not the blissful honeymoon period I'm used to when getting a new vape .

EDIT: and sorry for going so off topic, I was reading this thread because the vape does look pretty cool to me! I do also worry about the soot.
Yeah man same here, Magicstone very interesting. Seems if you used a zippo lighter with decent butane you wouldn’t get soot build up? On the plus side won’t run through so many lighters, small torch lighters never last.

Hope to here more reviews on vapor amount and taste, sounds a bit underwhelming…. But the form factor of just hitting a bowl is nice.

So, anyone else ordering a Magicstone ? I'd like some company and another point of view. Maybe together we can perfect the technique

I wish I had some good news, but with each attempt with the Magicstone I find little to keep my faith. I once again tried with loose glass ball underneath the herb basket which did help to diffuse the heat of the direct flame. Unfortunately , it would not produce enough heat to produce any worthwhile vapor. I probably took 8-10 consecutive draws trying hoping for one good hit but all that happened was the Magicstone started to get quite warm. I then removed the glass balls and carefully took a few more hits while the soapstone was still retaining heat hoping that it might create some radiant heat to help . It did not... Trying to modulate the heat/temp simply by how hard and long you draw in the flame is proving to be much more difficult than I would have imagined , even with experience with some other similar vapes. Perhaps using a concentrate pad in place of the glass balls would dissipate the flame yet radiate heat better to produce some vapor. ( similar to the vaporgenie ). as it is natively, it does not seem to work very well. I'm sure if I saw this on Wickiepipes for $59.99 it would be ok. After each use so far, I was left underwhelmed and resorted to grabbing one of my current vapes . they all at least produce easy, combustion free vapor which is why I gave up smoking 15 years ago. I find I have very little tolerance for any vape that makes me work this hard for crappy results. It has left me with a bad taste, both literally and figuratively.

That’s a bummer…. What about turning down your flame some with no balls or pads in there? I watched their video, of course he was producing vapes like all owner videos….

I just wanna mention that no matter the quality of lighter or butane ,candleflame lighters will leave sooth, dont fool yourself that there is any magic combo that will get rid you of the problem of the incomplete butane combustion, which leaves sooth as a byproduct.. Inform yourself on the matter if you dont believe me,rather than comforting yourself, because someone is not feeling it or noticing it. That being said i am outta here ,have a nice day !

I've tried it without balls or pad with little success . You don't need to turn the lighter flame down since you as the user can control where you place the flame and how hard you inhale into the vape. I'm not convinced that what I saw in the Magicstone video was vapor as opposed to smoke. I seem to get mediocre results with more heat but they always feel and taste like combustion smoke.

Yeah I follow ya, thought about how you can control the flame with distance after my post.

That’s bizarre man, sorry you had to be the Guinea pig. I hope that’s actual vapor in the video at least…. Otherwise it’s literally just a standard bowl with the caveat that you light the carb hole, what a joke

I have received mine and my initial experiences closely reflect your own, BUT I have only tried it a couple times. I lightly scorched the bottom of the herb, but managed to fully roast both bowls. With a lot of fucking around. Prevalent butane taste, as well. I am not positive I will manage to technique this into submission, but I will work at it.

I hate to say it, but it seems more like a 'product' or 'experience' than a vaporizer. If half the thought that went into the presentation went into the function, we'd be having a different conversation. I think it needs redesigned to create a longer and more complex heat path, or at least some sort of diffusion. It would also benefit from redesigning it to use a torch, if possible: the soft flame is unwieldy and has a flavor. It could also be lighter, for pocket-friendliness. I have removed mine to a part of the house far, far away from my glass.

Anyhow, I don't want to shit on this thing, and I don't want to completely discourage anyone who likes it until I can convince myself that it's not worth the effort.

I hope to report back that there's only a learning curve, with some tips or ideas.

Edit: Just got a good hit using my Neo over the bowl and plugging the heat intake. Flavor not remarkable, but it works. I would not consider it worth buying for that purpose (there are better Neo bowls), but if you really like the design and you have a Neo...

Edit2: I wonder if the Terp Surfer ring would fit the Odyssey?

Edit 3: Of course, the Glass Vapor Genie heater works, as well. It doesn't fit properly, it's not a practical solution, it will work.

On a happier note, I am having small success using it as intended. As with any torch vape, there's the challenge of pulling sufficient heat without crossing the line. Here, the the safe/productive zone seems very narrow. Temperature on your tongue may be the best guide.

Do you live in a city? If so you breath in more soot in 15 minutes than you will get from a lighter in 20 years!

Count me in the unimpressed camp unfortunately... too bad cuz I love how it looks and was really into the idea of a spoon-pipe vape! Don't have much to add to whats been said already except for: Lord above this is one noisy vape. If you ever wanted to listen to the plaintive song of a lonesome banshee while vaping, then run, don't walk, to magicstone.us, cuz this is the machine for you!

That kind of logic/math is pointless to me,but even if it is so, why do you vape at all ,combusiton byproducts are all around us?
For me vaping is not only about health ,but also about taste and purity... How does having black sooth in your vape help this...
I have gone already though flame powered vaporizers that rely on inhaling the flame VaporGenie/Vapobowl/Vapostar and they have shitty taste compared to others ,and candle flame lighters even more compared to jet torches..
@vapeape77 Hope you are joking about matches,lol... There are alternatives as hemp wick, but i doubt it burns much cleaner than lighers ,i've seen people using it. Maybe you can try a tiny piece of hookah coal,lol....

when I was trying to figure out a good use for this vape I did indeed think of the Neo. I don't own one but was interested in it. I really liked their surf board looking pipe to accompany it as well. I personally don't mind the size and weight of the soapstone , in fact I think that's my favorite quality so far... As for the noise the the Odyssey makes, it certainly does whistles quite loud. It might be un-worthwhile to spend too much more time trying to get good results from this as a vape, but I do still want to try one last heat diffuser underneath the herb basket.

Not here to kick the body, but the Neo is really a wonderful device when you learn to go with its flow. I was pulling desktop-sized rips at zero diamonds with my Hydrobrick yesterday.

Back to the topic: I stand by my earlier complaints (though I do like the pipe as an object--including its size/weight, it's just too heavy to drop in your pants pocket, as you might a glass spoon), but I have kind of had some success: it's still pretty hit-or-miss at this point. Assuming I can work that down to a more consistent hit, I will still probably hesitate as the soft-flame leaves a butane flavor I can't abide, despite the fact that I love and use butane torch vapes all day long. I think that flavor (and unburned gas, frankly) may be the bottom-line deal breaker for me, in terms of regular use.

Edit: How stealth is it? "I that guy smoking a bowl or biting the head off a pixie?!"

The founder of Magicstone Jim, called me last night to talk and get some feedback. I will be discussing my user experience with Odyssey to help him with improvements and expectations from fellow vape users. He seems like a fantastic guy. He was unaware of FC until I had a conversation with his partner. He has since read the comments posted here and is wanting our perspective. If anyone has a question or comment to pass on to him just let me know.

Interesting. I would invite him to come talk to us. There are some here who can probably give substantial suggestions or work through problems that he won't have access to otherwise. Also, I feel like those interactions would do wonders to boost the image.

Substantially, I would say it needs a longer or diffused heat path to make it easier learn, and to consistently ride the line between a clean hit and charring. Also, I would be interested to understand how the stone is harmed by torch heat: would a sufficiently tamed heat path allow for torch use? For instance, an intake funnel could be added and removed easily for use, replacing the little intake built in. A choked intake ala Vapor Genie, Dynabox might work.

I was surprised to learn how thoroughly the soft flame flavor ruins the experience for me. Solving the heat intake issues are really all it needs in my opinion.

Edit: Maybe the vapor pipes @Ed's TnT or @Dreamwood make have solved this?
