Hey guys we got a MB2e last week and are still trying to nail down our process so we can make this an easily replicated task with effective results. We have read this whole thread over the past few days and I think some of it stuck, lol.
Our first batch smells and tastes great but lacks potency. We followed the directions in the manual for butter and used 14g of high quality nugs and 2 cups of unsalted butter and 1 tbs of Soy lecithin (couldn't find sunflower lecithin) and put it on 160 for 2 hours.
When we did this we were at the part of the thread where the MB2 was supposed to decarb on it's own, later in this thread we learn that the Mb2e does not do this because most found the auto decarb to be insufficient. Also later in the manual it says to decarb but isn't mentioned in the recipes that come before that
.
So in the future we need to decarb either in the oven or with the 220 for 1hr we see people doing for an in machine decarb. We wonder which method is better, if they produce similar results the in machine method would be nicer. It would be nice to do it all in the machine made for it. Not decarbing could be why they were weak but after reading all of this we have a few other concerns.
Did we use enough material? 14g for 2 cups already seems like an investment to me. We are seeing you guys using double to quadruple that amount! We want it to be potent enough but more than 1oz for 2 cups may be the limit we are willing to risk, and if that didn't go well it would SUCK as we are on a fixed budget.
We did a 1/2 batch of quaker oats "vanishing" oatmeal raisin cookies which called for 1/4 cup and 3tbs (almost 1/2 cup of butter total). We used half cannabutter and half non infused coconut oil (another reason for weak effect). It called for 350 degrees and to check at 10 mins, the "cookies" all came together in "bar" form requiring extra cooking time (per recipe).
We are curious if the baking temperature needs to be readjusted to a lower temp at a longer time so we don't lose potency?
We plan on switching to coconut oil for future infusions after reading this thread since it more readily absorbs the actives. But what do we do with the remaining 1 and 3/4 cups of the weak butter?
Option 1: Throw it back in the machine for 1hr on 220 to try and decarb it post extraction with an additional 1/4 cup of butter to bring it back up to the minimum level?
Option 2: Or throw it in the machine with the 1/4 cup butter and 14 more grams, then run 1hr at 220 and then 160 for 2hrs?
Option 3: Oven decarb 14 grams and throw weak cannabutter in with the aditional 1/4 cup of butter and just run 160 for 2 hrs
Option 4: Add the weak cannabutter to 1/4 cup of butter and run 220 for 1hr in machine then add 14g oven decarbed bud and run 160 for 2 hours.
On a side question has anyone tried or heard of using hemp oil to extract cannabis into, we have someone insisting getting some made because he thinks there is cbd in hemp oil. We don't think there is much cbd in hemp oil and am wondering if there is a reason people don't normally use it such as poor absorption rate.
If we can get this nailed down and make strong infused coco oil for cooking and coco capsules for the calorie conscious we will be VERY happy. We also have the opportunity to help a cancer patient with a high tolerance who only does edibles, we don't want to let her down.
Sorry if this is a lot at once lol, we did read this entire thread but still need some guidance from the pros here!
