:hmm:
Doesn't the decarb need to be done before the extraction takes place?

Pre-extraction is probably ideal, but post-extraction is worth a try. It should do something, and it sure beats throwing the batch out.

Personally, I decarb in-unit by running a one-hour cycle at 220 degrees. I then follow that with another two hours extraction-only at 160, but I guess for the first hour I'm really doing a simultaneous extraction and decarb. And that seems to work just fine :2c:

i'm sorry to hear that some are not doing well with the machine. i didn't realize some people didn't get high eating pot. that blows me away as 3 or my canna caps are perfect and 5 is too much.

for people who haven't eaten pot before, i guess the best thing to do would be to make a few fire crackers first to see if you actually get high eating it.

i have the technical ability of a chimp but i got the machine and :
bud + coconut oil + decarb in oven + lecithin + one hour oil cycle and i'm a very happy man.

the MB2 and my extreme Q bag vape are my best pot related buys in a long time.

so i've been eating the capsules for months now. at first, for some reason or other i was eating a bit too much and i'd get the racing heart feeling. took me months to figure out that maybe i should EAT LESS! duh!

i've found that i can eat the same dosage, before or after the same meal, at the same time of day, vape the exact same amount of the same genetic while waiting for the high to kick in and get different highs.

one time i will be too high. one time i'll be beautifully high. it's annoying that i can't dial in the beautiful high every time. i put a sign on my vape bag when i eat pot. it says - ONE HIT ONLY!!!!! - as the last time i vaped a whole bag after eating 2 capsules i got uncomfortably high. like sniffing pepper and eating fruit too high. :)

do you folks get pretty consistent highs when you eat your own oil or butter?

Haha, it's always fun but best to have no plans unless you already know the strength just incase ha.

And you can always eat more, but when you put a half gram of hash in one cookie, that's a stop the trim party, convince myself everything's cool as bad as I'm sweating and as pale as I am, and sleep it off for a solid 16 hours straight haha

... Don't do that, use the machine and trim or bud and dose it. That's why I love the magical butter machine. I found the perfect ratio of cups of coconut oil to ounces of trim. Now that I know the ratios I know exactly how many doses each half cup makes. I like to make it strong... Each 1/2 cup of coconut oil makes 80 strong edibles (320 per 2 cup batch) or 40 "should I go to the hospital" doses per 1/2 cup haha

For that dose I use 2 cups of coconut oil to 4z sugar leaf trim. Each 1/2 cup is infused with an oz of trim... If I want to make only 20 edibles it's only 1oz infused coconut oil with the rest the recipe calls for being plain coconut oil.

Here's the link they sent me again for $25 off if you're reading this and considering buying one

Hey guys we got a MB2e last week and are still trying to nail down our process so we can make this an easily replicated task with effective results. We have read this whole thread over the past few days and I think some of it stuck, lol.

Our first batch smells and tastes great but lacks potency. We followed the directions in the manual for butter and used 14g of high quality nugs and 2 cups of unsalted butter and 1 tbs of Soy lecithin (couldn't find sunflower lecithin) and put it on 160 for 2 hours.

When we did this we were at the part of the thread where the MB2 was supposed to decarb on it's own, later in this thread we learn that the Mb2e does not do this because most found the auto decarb to be insufficient. Also later in the manual it says to decarb but isn't mentioned in the recipes that come before that :(.
So in the future we need to decarb either in the oven or with the 220 for 1hr we see people doing for an in machine decarb. We wonder which method is better, if they produce similar results the in machine method would be nicer. It would be nice to do it all in the machine made for it. Not decarbing could be why they were weak but after reading all of this we have a few other concerns.

Did we use enough material? 14g for 2 cups already seems like an investment to me. We are seeing you guys using double to quadruple that amount! We want it to be potent enough but more than 1oz for 2 cups may be the limit we are willing to risk, and if that didn't go well it would SUCK as we are on a fixed budget.

We did a 1/2 batch of quaker oats "vanishing" oatmeal raisin cookies which called for 1/4 cup and 3tbs (almost 1/2 cup of butter total). We used half cannabutter and half non infused coconut oil (another reason for weak effect). It called for 350 degrees and to check at 10 mins, the "cookies" all came together in "bar" form requiring extra cooking time (per recipe).

We are curious if the baking temperature needs to be readjusted to a lower temp at a longer time so we don't lose potency?

We plan on switching to coconut oil for future infusions after reading this thread since it more readily absorbs the actives. But what do we do with the remaining 1 and 3/4 cups of the weak butter?

Option 1: Throw it back in the machine for 1hr on 220 to try and decarb it post extraction with an additional 1/4 cup of butter to bring it back up to the minimum level?

Option 2: Or throw it in the machine with the 1/4 cup butter and 14 more grams, then run 1hr at 220 and then 160 for 2hrs?

Option 3: Oven decarb 14 grams and throw weak cannabutter in with the aditional 1/4 cup of butter and just run 160 for 2 hrs

Option 4: Add the weak cannabutter to 1/4 cup of butter and run 220 for 1hr in machine then add 14g oven decarbed bud and run 160 for 2 hours.

On a side question has anyone tried or heard of using hemp oil to extract cannabis into, we have someone insisting getting some made because he thinks there is cbd in hemp oil. We don't think there is much cbd in hemp oil and am wondering if there is a reason people don't normally use it such as poor absorption rate.

If we can get this nailed down and make strong infused coco oil for cooking and coco capsules for the calorie conscious we will be VERY happy. We also have the opportunity to help a cancer patient with a high tolerance who only does edibles, we don't want to let her down.

Sorry if this is a lot at once lol, we did read this entire thread but still need some guidance from the pros here!

You can salvage the run. I would do an additional de carb on the material either running multiple low temp runs in MB or in a double boiler at 220 for 1+ hrs. You can always test as you go to determine desired potency and effects so it can be good to err on the side of caution with your heat processing if you have the time/patience for it.

I would also lower the temps on your bars I am not a huge into baking but I would think you should be somewhere around 300 degrees if not a bit lower if possible.

Love your avatar by the way that picture is awesome.

The Professor just got his MB2E. I'm going to do a coconut butter run: 2 cups oil, 2 tbsp lethicin, 1 oz botanical. I'm sure I've got that part of the recipe down.

I was going to do a machine decarb at 190 and I've read about a guy when does another hour decarb at 220 with the same botanicals.

What I remain unsure about as a starting point is how long to cook for, and at what temp. I've read times from one hour at 160 to multiple hours at increasing and then decreasing temperatures.

What has worked best for time/temp with coconut butter?

What's the best coconut oil to get for the magical butter and to infuse cannabis?

Currently in the USA and looked in wallmart and found some refined. Is there any unrefined product anywhere at a reasonable price that I can bring back to the uk.

i've made four batches. after the first, i will always decarb in the oven. i read about decarbing in the machine/decarbing in liquid and i don't believe that it is as effective as a good old fashioned 15 min to 45 minute decarb. unless you have a lot of pot to play with, why experiment? just decarb it in the oven.

my first batch was 1.5 oz of bud (not decarbed) to 2 cups of oil. i was taking 8 to 10 caps to get where i wanted to be. after i made a batch with 3 oz of decarbed bud to 2 cups of oil, i gave away the earlier caps and threw out the remaining oil. i rarely take more than 2 caps at a time to get nicely high. that and a bag of vapor is perfect for me.

i only do one hour in the machine at the oil setting. i've read about people running their oil for hours in the machine. all i know is my oil is lovely and is exactly what i was looking for.

Are you using this for edibles or for topicals?

I just read that coconut oil is a barrier oil. So, the thc in a topical salve will not absorb into the skin as well as if you use a different type of oil. I'm changing over to rice bran oil and probably adding a bit more bees wax to compensate.

I was looking for multi purpose but mainly edible or capsules if I had to choose

Then you shouldn't have a problem. My salve works well... I just wonder how much better it will be with the change, lol. I'm hoping for a significant one since the rice bran oil is more expensive.

Amazon is another good source for all types of oils. You might want to check them. Most vendors offer free shipping over $35.00. Then you wouldn't have to worry about carting it back home.

So I quit smoking over a year ago after moving onto vaping and buying an LSV. I've recently quit vaping as well after finding out it really isn't much better health-wise than smoking. I'm pretty much done with inhaling and looking to get into edibles to treat my insomnia. I'm not exactly planning on baking any goods, just ingesting butter/oil in its raw form or via capsule.

Few questions for MB owners
1. Do you notice a difference in potency when decarbing and not decarbing?
2. For those of you who've tried decarbing in the MB and in an oven, was either method really much more effective than the other? Has decarbing in the MB been a total failure/waste?
3.In your opinion, is the MB really worth it?

I was 100% sure I was gonna buy the MB...until I realized you have to decarb separately. Decarbing indoors sort of defeats the purpose of me purchasing the MB since I'm in need of a smell-proof method.

Last few questions:
1. Does wrapping a cookie sheet in aluminum foil when decarbing in an oven make your house smell significantly less?
2. How long does the smell stick around? Does it stick to furniture or does it completely dissipate within a few hours?
3. Recently my insomnia has gotten REALLY bad so I might be willing to take the risk to decarb indoors. If I don't buy the MB, can I just decarb and throw the plant matter into a mason jar filled with coconut oil and sort of use it as tincture or would I need to cook it together so that it binds with the fat? I read someone had success doing this with Ever Clear and decided to do this instead of using the MB so I'm wondering if it'd work with coconut oil since I'm not a fan of alcohol.

I'd appreciate any insight, thanks :D

What info have you got about vaporizing not being much better than smoking?
...............................................................

X2
In approx percentages, smoking is about 85-90% combustion byproducts and 10-15% cannabis goodies.
Vaporizing is about 90% cannabis goodies and 10% misc.

1. Do you notice a difference in potency when decarbing and not decarbing?
No... Not for me.
Sometimes I find my stuff weaker after a separate dcarboxylation.
When cooking the butter for a longer time, it activates the herbal constituents sufficiently in my experience. The goods are then baked and decarboxylated again in the recipe you are making.

2. For those of you who've tried decarbing in the MB and in an oven, was either method really much more effective than the other? Has decarbing in the MB been a total failure/waste?
It was OK, but I did not like decarbing alone, and dry in the MB or traditional method.
3.In your opinion, is the MB really worth it?
Past owner of a couple MB machines, and it was not worth it for me.

You need to bind it with fat
My experience with butter has been obtained by making 2 pounds of butter a week for the past 10 years, without any exception. Opinions of other cannabutter aficionados might vary.
Prior to the past 10 years I made Cannabutter once a month.... for about 40 years!

I came across a study here not too long ago, just ran a search but can't seem to find it.

Thanks for the response! I've seen you in the LSV thread as well. You seem to be pretty knowledgeable/experienced :p
Any idea how long the smell lingers when decarbing?

Is there a smell when making baked goods?

Also, do you think the decarbing process in the MB is sufficient or would it be best to use the butter to bake goods afterwards to make sure it's been completely decarb'd? I'd like to consume the butter raw straight out of the MB but if baking goods will ensure it's being decarbed, then I'll take that extra step. Thanks!

There is this thread that details a bit about vaping vs smoking... And I know there are a few more in the Vaporization Discussion forum. There is no doubt, however, that vaping is much healthier for you than smoking.

But further conversation and research regarding this should really go to another thread. Let's keep this one about the MB machine.

Final question for you MB owners:
Do you find the end-product to be more potent with the MB than when making butter via traditional methods?
^
If you do, do you decarb your herb before throwing it into the MB?
