Just wanted to update that I placed the order with one of the UK vendors who post on FC, namely vaporlot.com

I was really impressed with the level of customer service provided, including but not limited to communication, prompt dispatch, competitive pricing (free shipping + the discount code for FC.com members was the icing on the cake) and quality of knowledge about the LSV and the various accessories. I know that there are various vendors based in North America who participate on here, provide promotions for the FC community and are well informed. However until I saw the vaporlot post on the vendor's forum, I wasn't aware that something similar was available for UK/EU residents aside from the actual manufacturers such as Wychwood, Venus Vaporizer etc. Incidentally, it's pretty awesome though that manufacturer's actually take the time to participate with the community on here.

I had hoped to get some accessories however financial constrains won't permit that right now. Fortunately Vaporlot are presently including a free WPA (and grinder) with their LSV orders so I'll still get to enjoy pairing the LSV with my Jet-Flash Smoking System (a cheap knock-off of the Helix). The latter's been collecting dust for over a year so it will be good to put it to some use.

lwien: Interesting info in your reply. I saw your initial review on this thread where you were using PD stem sized amounts with the LSV and had found that the PD had the edge. However it looks like you've since refined your use of the LSV with the larger amount being used over several days. This appears to tie in with what weedemon said about using a vape in the best way as it's intended. Since the chamber is larger than other vaporizers like the PD, MFLB etc, it makes sense that it's optimised to work with larger amounts. I guess it will take some trial and error when I receive it to load up larger amounts and not hit the negative levels I was getting when vaping >50mg in the past. The only downside I can see to loading up the chamber and making it last 3 days is whether oxidation of the herb is a negative factor? Esp if it's ground finely and has an increased SA exposed to the air.

weedemon: In addition to what I mentioned above, the info you gave about flavour effecting satisfaction is interesting. I haven't vaped/combusted etc for at least a couple of months so hopefully my taste buds should be sensitive. However what you mention might be another reason to do as lwien suggests and just fill the bowl with 2-3 days worth of hits rather than using micro amounts as I'd planned.

stickstones: Thanks for the endorsement for the LSV's discreet features. That was one of the key elements I was looking for when I began researching desktop alternatives to my cano. Not sure if you're filling the Matrix with water when using it, however I won't be putting water in my water pipe and am purely using it to increase the vapor path and therefore cool the vapour better than the wand. Since it swirls the vapour etc, I'm assuming it should be fairly good for this.

The attraction for the dry setup is that I can switch it on, be vaping in under 5 mins, take 1-3 hits and then pack everything quickly into the carry case and stash the bag at the back of the wardrobe until I next need it (most likely the following day). Just out of interest Stickstones, are you using the Matrix with water inside it and just leaving it to stand until next use? Or emptying the water out after each quick 2-3 hit session?

Thanks again for all the useful responses and taking the time to read through my verbose messages. Additionally, those who posted reviews on this thread were helpful wrt informing my purchase. I'll be interested to see how this compares to the cano and look forward to getting past the learning curve over the next few days :)

JFortunately Vaporlot are presently including a free WPA ....

Which WPA are you getting? Make sure that you get the right one to fit your glass, 14mm or 18mm. Also, both of those versions come in a "shorty" version, which for a single user using small amounts, imho, is a much better option than the standard one.

^The vendor was pretty much saying the same thing to me. Consequently, I asked him to help ascertain what would work with my jet-flash. It appears to have a 14.5 downstem with an 18.8 to 14.5 reducing bowl slotting in. Since the bowl isn't frosted, vaporlot told me to ensure that I use the frosted 14.5mm downstem with the (14.5mm) WPA to ensure that no damage ensues.

Thanks for the insight about WPA's suitability for small amounts. Looks like using the LSV with the WPA rather than wand will be the ideal setup for my needs.

I agree it won't be as fresh as it would be had you busted it up that same day... It will be dryer than it was the day before, and I would bet it will have less flavor. (besides the obvious fact it's not fresh and already been vaped a bit.) but hey, sometimes I don't finish a bowl in that session either. I don't mind coming back to it later, usually within an hour or so for me though! ;)

You sound pretty open minded, so I bet you will be doing some experimenting. along the way you will find what works best for you. and ultimately that what really matters. we can offer all the advice possible, but that's still our opinions.

flavor for example: flavour adds to the experience. every strain tastes differently, and I have a few faves. I am supposed to be picking up one of those strains soon actually! :) a medicinal user may not give a damn about flavour... they might only care to get relief from their ailment. that said IME, i find medicinal people i meet are like me usually :) connoisseurs! :D

if a vape isn't tasty, I ask why? vapor should be tasty for the most part and all vapes perform a little differently... if it isn't tasty though i suspect there is something else detracting from this. and this could possibly be even off gassing something that is getting in the way an polluting my vapor. a good tasting vape re assures me it's clean and safe. (not a gold standard, but something that is in my mind when using my vapes.)

ethbot...I'm sure you will enjoy your purchase. I use water in my matrix and what i do would probably horrify some of the big time glassers around here. i leave the water in there for days until it has enough shit in it for me to notice. the only reason i do this is because, like you, I quickly put it away and can't get to the bathroom all the time for maintenance. but i don't find it diminishes my experience. and good pick up on lwien's method. i hadn't thought about it, but one of the great features of the LSV is that it is just about pure convection when used with the WPA. the bowl never gets too hot for me to lift off when clearing.

I am unable to help myself.
I am forced after maybe the second or third hit to go wash the water device, and get fresh water.
My nose may be way too sensitive, but I am able to smell a "used" odor in the water after just a couple of hits.

One of the reasons you guys are vaping is that it's healthier than smoking, and we're all looking for the cleanest vapor path, yet you guys filter your vapor through dirty water?

Dump that shit out every night. Takes all of one minute to dump it, rinse, and put away to dry.

Fuckin' lazy ass stoners. ;)

Damn, came down with flu on Wednesday night so not in a decent condition to post or even open my vaporiser package and make sure it arrived safely! :( Be back once I'm cured. Hopefully this weekend :) Thanks for any replies, I'll be reading them tomorrow hopefully.

Must be a hell of a flu to make you not even want to open your new toy. ;)

Get well and enjoy the LSV when you do. :freak:

wpa got here today! I was a little disappointed with the shipping speed, but vapeworld doubled up my order (two for the price of one) so I can't really complain

You had enough energy to sit on your computer and post.

Open the damn package. Oogle your new LSV. Feel it. Feel how heavy it is. Feel how cold it is in your hands. Feel the quality. Now plug it in and turn it on. Look at the glow. Feel the heat.

I promise, flu or not, doing this WILL make you feel better. ;)

lols, thanks for the encouragement. I haven't partaken of MMJ for around 2 months though, so I'd rather wait till I'm fully cured before I savour the flavour of some nice British Cheese :) Fortunately I have some legal alternative ethnobotanicals to lessen the severity of pain. Plus my throat feels so sore, vaporizing might do more harm than good...although maybe using the WPA and warm water in the WP might actually be good for the throat? Looking at the properties of different cannabinoids and the various boiling/vaporisation temps makes me think it might be worth trying:
http://www.weedist.com/2012/07/tailoring-high-compounds-in-cannabis-properties-boiling-points/
Someone please mod this or pm me if i'm breaking a rule in linking this info

Another reason I was reluctant to vape is in case I leave any germs on the vaporiser and end up infecting other people who might use it, or even myself once cured. I'm feeling too lazy to clean it within a few days with ISO alcohol once I'm cured.

Edit: Maybe I'm exhibiting OCD tendencies due to not medicating for so many weeks, however the worry of leaving germs on the vaporiser is why I haven't even opened the parcel with the LSVv -never-mind not vaporising with it.

Specific replies:
weedemon re:post-315295

I don't how open minded I am considering it's taken me 7 years to try another desktop vaporiser and have bought 2 different Volcanos in that time. However I do enjoy science and being able to apply the scientific method to my vaporisation in order to maximise it's medicinal benefits is fun.

Which leads to what you said about strains, flavour etc. Good points, especially since vaporisation is the ideal way to experience the nuances in flavour (not to mention medicinal/recreational effects) exhibited by the different strains. Unfortunately, I don't really have access to a wide range of strains and just tend to get a decent amount of indica dank whenever I come across it. Since Cheese is a fairly common Indica in the UK and easy to identify, I try to get this. Unfortunately a lot of people tend to mis-represent their bud with random inaccurate names for the sake of hyping it up in order to increase sales or bump up the price. Therefore I usually stick with cheese when I reload.

@weedemon, Vitolo and lwien re: water in the pipe being discarded etc (post 2006 to 2008)
It's interesting to see replenishment of water ranging from after 2-3 hits to after each session to a couple of days. The 1st two short ones would probably be optimal in terms of flavour, hygiene etc.

Hopefully I'll be better soon :)

Just ordered an LSV, cant wait to see how it performs. I was wondering what is a good "bang for your buck" water pipe attachment for this piece? something in the sub $145 price range?

Thanks in advance.

I've been using a HVY Mini-Beaker that I got on ALT for 49 bucks. They're up to a 100 dollars now, but the glass is thicker. I'm drooling over a Mobius Ion Matrix, but this beaker has been doing the job for me.

... a HVY Mini-Beaker...
That plus my LSV is my garage set up. But I find that the LSV suits any of my larger bubblers best. It just has the ability to put out so much vapor volume that is seems a waste on a smaller bubbler. I'd advise checking out some of the threads on the Glass Forum, lots of good bang for your buck pieces there. Also lots of good deals on the Classified Forum.

What do ya think the volume difference is between the Mini and an Ion Matrix.

Anyone pair their Mobius Ion Matrix with their Vapor Tamer? Will the Vapor Tamer stay put with the Ground Glass joint or does it seem kinda precarious?

@lwien I'm not sure how the 2 would compare. I've never had a Möbius. Though it looks like it would do really well in terms of low drag and volume.

I don't see the point in this. the whole point of the tamer is to cool without removing taste by going through water

The tamer would only be used to cool. The bubbler would be used to filter any particulate that gets through the screen. The tamer still uses the same screen you put in your WPA.

I've tried using a vapor tamer with a water piece before, IME, if you have the tamer before the water, then the water will technically heat up the "tamed" vapor, leaving the resulting water filtered vapor at approximately the same temp as water filtered vapor without a tamer.

Here's my thinking as to why:
Technically, water doesn't cool vapor, it tries to reach a temperature equilibrium while they are in contact.
Since the vapor coming out of a tamer Is alreay cold, you're effectively running it through warm water.

I've never found water treated vapor to be hot, so IME a vapor tamer before the water filtration is unneccessary.
If you have a way to add the vapor tamer after the water filtration though, you get the moisturizing and particulate trapping features of water filtration, with the cooling experience of a vapor tamer.

YMMV though, I'd love to hear any one else's opinion on the tamer + water combo
:)

We're here to fuck shit up.
My GBD FC Bubbler has a removable mouthpiece and I use the tamer as a mouthpiece from time to time. I have also used the tamer before the water. The tamer before the water cools it slightly, but not very noticeable. Using the tamer as the mouthpiece is an extremely satisfying experience. The vapor comes out very cold and flavorful. This is the way I enjoy using the tamer more than any other method. There is almost zero chance of getting the tamer dirty, but it does its job so well.
