Hello all,

I'm a new member on FC and I want to share what I've been working on. I had a vendor account update and have just been waiting to start a thread until I could get higher quality pictures in place. I'm still working on better photos; if you think these are just too blurry please let me know and I will make that the new priority. This is something I've never done before and could be a complete joke, I really don't know but decided I had to take a shot or it would drive me nuts.

Quick Background: I am a MMJ user for just over two years. I started vaping about a month ago for health reasons and I also needed to get the heat under control to stop health related things from getting any worse. Glass is expensive enough on my budget that I decided to try making my own devices. Below is a photo of my first attempt which I've nick named 'Captain Jack'.

This piece works extremely well and the response I've received from showing these in person has taken me by surprise. I had offers to take this piece off my hands from neighbors as I was taking the first pictures of it outside, just working on some better lighting!

I am having so much fun making these (a few more are in the works to cover local demand) that I had to post them up online and see if I can find other people interested in custom reclaimed glass pieces.

I have a small collection of glass already to choose from with more coming. I will be posting the steps and materials I am using so that you could make these yourself. For those that would prefer the convenience of someone else making one for you, I am happy to oblige!

I would love to hear any and all feedback, constructive criticism, or questions and I will respond to PM's also. I love making MMJ accessories, like hand carved ebony stir/scraper tools, and will do my best to make you the custom piece you desire. I have some waxed Makers Mark 46 bottles in mint condition that I think are going to look amazing. Stem length, type, location, carb hole (or not), and many details are quite customizable of course.

Thank you for the advice! I sold this first piece already but I took several pictures first so I can still get my how to started. Are these fitting on screen better?

Here is a bit of my process as I mentioned. I'm not going in to minute detail here but I'm happy to answer any questions.

Starting with a diamond hole saw I cut the stem hole. Next I use a bit to grind all the edges. If everything turns out well and the glass gods smile upon me it should look smooth, and finger safe, like this.

Next I pop in a grommet for a snug fit on the stem. The current grommet is rubber and I'm curious to find out what people think about it. The grommet isn't part of the air path if the stem is inserted properly. For my own obsessiveness I even swipe a light film of olive oil in the hole before inserting the stem to keep it from getting friction and breaking down or contaminating the stem on it's way in.

If anyone out there knows an affordable source for a food-safe silicone, edged grommet like this, I would really love to hear from you. The one manf. I've found so far requires a rather industrial minimum order size.

The stems I tried on this first run are a simple 6 slot diffuser style. I've since read that many people prefer less rather than more diffusion when vaping. On a scale this small has anyone noticed a difference between a simple diffuser or non-diffuser stem?

Here is the stem inserted. Here you can see the carb hole cut in to the bottle. This is also ground out and made safe and smooth so there is no danger of cuts on any sharp edges when this is all done. I'm going to try the next one with the inline carb fitting I saw in a thread here on FC. Rather than cutting another hole in the bottle, it seems an inline carb fitting will allow more flexibility in stem placement and chamber size vs. water depth.

The original offer on this piece was a bit higher than the $45 I let it go for. It seemed like a fair price after the parts (they wanted a bowl with it), tools and time. Maybe I shouldn't admit to talking my customers DOWN in price eh?! Any feedback on price or the piece in general is appreciated.

Looks pretty cool. I've seen some in the store that look similar.
For me, I don't think the number of holes in the downstem really matters much at all when doing vapor. But in general, you're right...we don't need lots of percs and layers of filtration like smokers do.
$50 sounds about fair it seems.

Thank you for the posts you guys! I've had good taste and feel with these simple 6-slot stems so I will stick with them for the foreseeable future. I'm hoping the natural, sunlit pictures for today's post look even better. (make sure to check out the last pic with the balanced dog!)

I apologize for the lag time on thread posts, budget for craft work is at an all time critical low here at the moment. I had to wait for the end of the month to get a couple of parts for the next pieces.

Today's theme is a smaller, yet fully functional water-based piece. This example doesn't have a secondary carb hole and works well in a few ways. A carb hole option is easily added, in your preference of 3 areas; back and either side. I don't put them on the same side as the stem hole of course.

The glass is really nice and thick/heavy. This means the bubbler is able to stand up, with the underdog attached, without any water in the body at all. Bonus right!? With my dimmer attached and the quirky things the cord likes to do it's better to first have the water level properly adjusted. The water goes in right through the cute bottle top.

I also wanted to do something cuter this time; hence the cute, ceramic, lock-stopper top, bottle. How's that for a tongue twister?

As for usage: After topping off the water level, the air chamber size on this piece has a good balance. You can take as large a dose as you want, without lifting the dog off. You get the perfect cool water based intake, and the chamber fills fast enough you'll be surprised to find out how much you've already taken in.

For the next time (or two if small) you can lift first the dog off for a secondary 'cooling' type hit from the bowl as I like to do, and lift off the bowl right then or exhale and get one more little dose after lifting the bowl fitting off completely. However you like the dosing there is a nice left over dose waiting for you when you lift the dog off.

If you prefer one hand control of the entire operation I could place a carb hole in the general location of preference (back, or either side), just not on the same side as the stem hole of course.

As with all Lemming glass pieces the edges of the stem hole are ground and finished so that they are finger safe, inside and out. The grommet is easily replaceable and I suggest using coconut oil or your choice of natural lubricant to easily slide the stem in nd out for cleaning or transport purposes.

The shipping on this size piece should also be less than the large whiskey bottles. I just realized I am going to cart a few pieces down to the local UPS and USPS shops to get weighed and determine just exactly what the shipping rates are going to range. I'll post that up as soon as I get more details.

I don't have an exact price set on smaller pieces like this yet, but I plan on being really affordable; enough that anyone shoul dbe able to afford one. If there is anyone who hasn't tried a water system with their vape yet, for budget reasons especially, please PM me and we'll see what we can work out. How does that sound?

P.S. Should I take another picture with something to better display the scale? These bottles are petite but not teeny; larger than a beer bottle. Let me know what you think!

Learned something interesting today: Since this glass is so simple and small (compared to some) I let it go a few more days than I normally would/should; I'm going to blame part of it on the dark glass too. It's nice not seeing any gunky build up on this darker glass, but if you don't have a regular cleaning regime in place *cough* it can sneak up on you.

So after running this little Buddha Buddy for far too many days in a row without cleaning, I took it to the sink. What I found out eventually after carefully working on the fitting with warm running water is as follows. Short version: These little glass pieces need regular cleaning just like the big pieces.

Even though there isn't a stream of carbon smoke particles filtering through the bubbler water, there is some plant particulate or dust of some kind as we all know. The smaller chamber means the glass stem and fitting are closer to the bubbles and splashing at water level. Over time this plant particulate material (ppm?) building up on the stem and grommet getting wet and drying repeatedly, made something very glue like in consistency. Running luke-warm water over the joint and grommet for a couple of minutes and carefully working the stem back and forth it was able to be removed without breaking or cracking anything. *WHEW*

Lesson learned; big, complicated stages of percs, or simple glass and splashing bubbles; all the glass needs a regular clean up to stay fully functioning and safe.

Here is a pic of a newly cleaned up Buddha and his brothers. The brothers are waiting to be de-labeled and cut. I'm hoping to learn if people prefer pieces like this with or without a carb hole; maybe I should make a poll? I continue to be pleasantly surprised how much it adds to the vaping experience, rather than taking away from it, to have a water piece in the loop. How about you guys? There are hundreds of views on the thread, lets hear from some of the lurkers! I'm open to constructive criticism or neutral comments, anything that won't get a mod after you, I'm game!
