Just a trend I've noticed.

Do you consider yourself an experienced vape user and do you prefer bag or whip?

I spend a lot of time with combusters and among my friends I'm the only big vapor enthusiast. They all love it when I bring my extreme q over and fill some bags. I've found though that the people with more experience with vaporizers (my friends that have smoked my other vapes) tend to favor the whip a lot more whereas the bags are popular with people who have never vaped. I've also noticed a lot of dedicated whip users on FC and they tend to be the older members; with the bag users usually being new members looking to get into vaping.

So are whips for pros? The way I see it whips are like a stick shift car, a little bit more work but there's a lot more control, the bags are like an automatic transmission (I don't think I came up with this, it was in my head and I'm not sure from where)

With all of that said why do people still consider the Volcano the king of vaporizers? It seems to me like the Silver Surfer would have a better claim as it's much cheaper and if it delivers the way people says it does (better than the EQ whip) I can't even imagine how great it must be.

Yeah, I'll be honest I've noticed this as well. Most people who are unfamiliar with vaporizers prefer the bags because it is super simple, you see what your getting before you get it. As well, I think it's fair to say that a lot of people only really know about the Volcano when they first get into vapor and think that bags are the pinnacle method of consumption because of the Volcano's popularity.

And that is a pretty good analogy. I guess you could say that bags are vaporizer easy mode, since you don't need to worry about draw speed or other variables with it. And that's what makes it so ideal to the new vaporist, the learning curve is small and the results are tangible. With direct draw/water vaporizer, you have to take other things into effect and may not get to see your vapor before you inhale, which makes it harder to control exactly what you are getting

And from whips, vaporists seem to move on to direct draw (i.e. logs, Solo, and many portables)?

I know when I began researching vaporizers here I wanted a log (the PD at the time), but decided to go with a whip (the SSV). Now of course, I'm ready to be done with the whip and move on to direct draw (specifically, a log vape).

I would think direct draw would gain the largest market share with whip and bag being smaller, niche markets. This would only be accelerated by the fact that many portables are direct draw, and portables are likely gaining market share faster than plug-in, and for many are the introduction to vaporizing.

Can anyone give me a brief explanation of logs? I've looked into them a little but I can't figure out why someone would want a slow heating block of wood with a glass straw as opposed to a fine tuned work of art like the Silver Surfer (my dream vape). Does the wood enhance the taste like with the Launch Box?

EDIT: Vorrange if you see this could you throw in your two cents, from my short time at FC you seem to be the guy who knows about logs

The wood can sometimes affect the taste but not by much. What most people like about logs is the small amount of power they use (8w~, depends on model), and that the element most use can be left on 24/7 without fear of wearing out. This means you can literally leave your vape on forever and always be able to walk up to it and take a puff.

Also, a couple of factors (small amounts per bowl, slow pull speed, high thermal mass) makes for extremely quick and efficient sessions that use much encourage you to conserve your herb.

With it being a nondescript piece of wood it's going to draw alot less attention than something like a SSV or a Volcano, so it's great for the person medicating in secret.

And quite honestly; depending on the wood, and skill of the maker, these log vapes can be just as, if not more beautiful than all the other vapes on the market:

I have been wanting to get a log for a while. I love the simplistic concept of thick vapor production. i just don't know where to start with that category of vapes.

I polled myself a "new whip user", if you call every week from Aug 2012 a new user, but I feel like a newbie considering the company.

Compared to some of the folks on here most of us are rookies.

This is basically the situation I'm in, I have an extreme q and I love it but I've always wanted a Silver Surfer and was planning on getting one when I'm out of dorms because I'm just under the assumption it's the best.

Now I'm not sure if I should get an SSV or a log, maybe both, I've got my whole life to buy vapes.

I chose others because I didn't see water-pipe-attachments under whip

Experienced, direct draw glass mouthpiece!

As in you hook the vape right up to the glass with no whip? I didn't really think of that, I guess since that would just be awkward with an EQ.

Also I suppose I didn't include bags attached to water pipes but I've never really understood why anyone would do that.

Definitely doable!

But using an extra-short whip is almost as good and a bit easier.

If I'm not mistaken those are called 'diffusion beads'. Typically they're plastic balls about the size of an airsoft BB. Never tried them with vapor, but they make a noticeable improvement with smoke.

I keep my "infamous" filled with airsoft pellets. It really enhances the diffusion and smoothness.

as opposed to a fine tuned work of art like the Silver Surfer (my dream vape).

now dont get me wrong the SSV is a tried and true powerhouse. it will produce plooms of vapor nonstop. but its really just a soldering iron with glass in a nice looking slanted esthetic. the DBV is the same machine minus the glass knob and worked heater cover. under the hood its exactly the same. as is the LSV. all soldering iron heating elements with housings.

Didn't see the water pipe attachment option and went for experienced bag..
WPA is my preferred method but i do love a fresh bag (Don't like straight whips much)

I use my Q upside down like that often. Not bad, but a real pain in the ass and it's so in your face while taking a hit.

Cellar, if you have one and a glass piece with 18mm gong, its not too hard to figure out. I like it a little better than the short tube, tho I do that more often for simplicity.

Got a log ordered and hoping to have it within next couple weeks - but am thinking it is probably similar to the upside down Q but easier, better tasting, not resting on your nose (or close), and more efficient.

During the day, or if heading out and don't want t get too vaped, I fill a bag and hook it up to a bubbler with another elbow. One of the nice things about that is you can set it down and leave it. Just a little water keeps vape from leaking out of the bag. Great for doing stuff around the house or whatever.

I've noticed a similar thing.

I always take my newest vape/glassware to show my buddies, and of all my setups, the one they showed the most interest in was my a bag from my extreme q through a EHLE 250ml tube

I mean, bags have their place, but I don't see the point for my uses...

With all of that said why do people still consider the Volcano the king of vaporizers?
Because (IME) those people are inexperienced vaporists who assume the most expensive vape is the best.
It is a very good bag blower, and its got great durability, but there's no way in hell I'm gonna buy one at retail price...

(Note, I'm not taking a dig at anyone by saying "inexperienced vaporists", its just that by the time someone would qualify as an experienced vaporist, they usually recognise that there's no king of vaporisers)

The Heat Island Log Vape, heats up in 5 minutes and on the draw, provides instant vapor.

How is the SSV any more finely tuned, than the engineering that went into airflow, wood density, heating elements, etc of logs?

In regards to your poll question... from my observations, bag vape fans have been dwindling in vast numbers for at least 4 - 5 years now. Whip vapes, numbers have started to fall over the last year or so (and I LOVE my VB HF)

The vape market is very saturated with viable and unique options. Most geared towards some sense of portability. Pen vaps are literally exploding on the market right now.

I like having both whip & bags in my rotation. Variety is the spice of life, and I was fortunate enough to be in a position where I could acquire a variety of these devices. Some are overpriced, underpriced, or priced just right...but I love them all, and that is all that really matters, no? I don't care if one is a soldering iron, or the other is an overhyped bag blower. They make me happy, keep me healthy and are a joy to play with :spliff:

As to the poll....all my friends break out in laughter when I bring out a bag. They think it looks ridiculous...until they have a honk. :smug:

Oh yeah... Options are wonderful. I truly do, love my VB HF. It gives the most even dark brown, out of any of my vapes. Has a real nice draw. Same basic design, its had forever. They've upgraded it, for sure... but to most people... its looks like any other knock-off. Of course I know better.

Just observations I've made of the general consensus. I think if you polled non-vaporists, the results would be quite different. Obviously, with slightly different wording of the question.

"Other" is what I picked (Noobie)...

I'm currently vaping using the Vapir NO2. I guess it is a whip type, but I wasn't sure. I also do quite a bit of medibles, some I've made, and some I acquired through the collective.

Anyway, I went with the NO2 because it looked like it would work simply, be consistent, and that when I get it all figured out, I can play with the temps and get the effects I need.
