JCVAP "Pockety"

@chillmike Thanks for the detailed post Mike. I did read MOST of it, but was stoned so you know... ;)

Question though: Though I've been a stoner since the 70's, other than hot-kniving hash in Canada DECADES ago, I've never dabbed. It's always been weed. So want to get into it to add a little variety as since now I'm a stoner for recreational AND medical reasons (due to numerous injuries because of an adventurous life and bad luck, I have build a tolerance up so need to add variety. I've seen the fancy dab rigs with all the crap and I just don't want to have to deal with all that stuff, so wanted something easy.

I've been looking at the Puffco Proxy and the Pockety (thanks a FC member) and I am REALLY torn. I like the functionality of the Pockety but don't like the looks much. Price is great though. And its not that its ugly, but the Puffco Proxy just looks awesome, probably as I read every Sherlock Holmes story as a kid and also I know I could buy an after-market Gandalf/hobbit version too. And as an OG stoner, pipes are just my jam...

But the Puffco Proxy is $300 and the Pockety with the 50% off code, is almost half that!!

Help me decide!!! (Thanks in advance.)
The pockey will shit all over the proxy

The proxy is the little sibling to the the puffco peak pro
It doesn't have the 3d heating (which is only 2d) of the peak pro and the pro is decidedly better

The pockety is a better version of the peak pro in regards to heating chamber and has actual 3d (they say 5d) heating

I looked at the proxy for a while when it came out but am happy I didn't go in
A lot of marketing and advertising money spent which could be better put to improving the unit

The pockety is in its first iteration and two of us have reported a reset of the settings

But it is absolutely the better option imo over the proxy
It does all the work for you too being new to dabs (even as a seasoned dabber I like the stoner proof function of this rig)

The proxy does not have the thermocouple temp sensor control tech that the pro and pockety have
This is the tech that makes it stand out from the crowd with it's true 3d(5d) heating chamber

Last question: Should I get terp pills right away for the pockety, or can that wait?

BTW: MUCH appreciated brother! You are da man!

You can certainly wait
No need for pearls at all
But my 4mm sic pearl does make it rock even harder than stock
I agree about the pearl use
Now that is interesting, I have nice recyclers, it's hard to want to use any of my erigs as a result (also because I find torch and banger hot start dabs much much simpler and consistently effective) even Sai+ with bottomless banger, I just play with the Qomo quartz every once in awhile, I don't dab extensively anyway as I vape much more though... Anyway all things considered, this seems like a very promising product, the 50% off is tempting, but it might be worth me waiting for an update and future sale, perhaps even a bundle with the halo:

This is still in development they told me. I encouraged them to put it out though, people will definitely use it.

Yea I was also told the halo is still being finalised
It certainly looks the goods and I think quite a lot of people will buy it
Even pro owners

Success! Order confirmed and on the way. I had a brief moment of panic when flnflx-50 did not work, but thankfully Adubs-50 did!

Not any more
Only for the pockety

At the beginning it worked for the entire cart
But I think too many people added lots of extras hahaa
So for a while it seems to only work on a pockety unit
The code I just used - Adubs-50 - worked for my whole cart, but I only added the JCVAP Rio Titanium Jar+6 pcs 4mm SiC Pearls and they were only $13 US so maybe there was a limit?

Folks, this “#d” thing is not a thing. Please stop parroting these companies’ nonsensical ad copy. If there are relevant differences, speak to the reality of those differences. There is no 3d. There is no 5d. Acting like these are real things doesn’t help anyone aside from some far-off bean counters that want your money in their pocket[y]. If there’s something to be said for bottom + side heating over just bottom, say so. Bringing “dimensions” into the discussion is literally meaningless. Stop encouraging this idiocy, I beg of you.

With all due respect, how do you know that there is no truth to it? Yes, calling it "3D" is a bit of marketing hype just like "3D sound" when talking about headphone speaker, etc., but the basic idea of heating bottom and sides of the chamber rather than just the bottom makes sense to me. Or am I missing something?

He is saying 3D, and 5D, do not describe what you just described above... They're just brand marketing attempts, not accurate descriptions of the tech in play? (Like when movie theaters used 4D as a thing after 3D, but so like 5D is not a thing, there are not actually five dimensions, it is nonsense lol)

That's the point I was trying to make. I really don't care what marketing BS they use. It's the underlying tech that matters, right?

Anything else I need other than the Pockety?

Like inserts (I bought ruby), anything that might need replacement, etc.

Right, so I think the request, was to stop repeating their marketing BS, and describe it here more focused on the actual tech? is all

Yeah, that’s all I was saying. When we start discussing the merits of fifth dimensional (spoilers: IT’S LOVE) heating, we’re no longer talking about the real thermodynamic processes that shape the performance of our vapes, and that obscuring of the actual reality at hand benefits no one but unscrupulous businesses. I get why they’re doing it, but let not encourage them, right?

Apologies if my comment came off as aimed at anyone in particular; that definitively wasn’t my intention.

Puffco advertised 3d, so I get why he advertises 5d. I get the technicalities but I don't think it's that serious. Companies do marketing gimmicks a lot. If you go to the site he does explain what his version of "5d" means :)

On another note, my second pockety came. I had to order another one while it's on discount, I couldn't resist. Especially considering the one I got was the beta version. Super excited to come home from work and try!

Yeah, I saw this: “But it’s the first device use 5 Directions ceramic heating technology. The temperature sensor assembled in heating cup makes temperature control more accurately.Based on these technologies,it can make sure vape temperature produced on each point is almost the same.”

Which… isn’t really informative at all. “It’s got a sensor!” is a claim that provides information to the reader. “It has five directions ceramic heating technology!” is literally meaningless, so why even speak of it? Maybe I’m just stupid; if someone can identify the “5 directions” of this technology, I’d love to hear about it.

I guess 5D sounds cooler than "It heats from the top and the sides."

Based on the reviews here I couldn’t resist at this price point. In for a ALN unit, thanks OP!

Looking forward to getting my hands on one and sharing my thoughts here.

Happy dabs all

I edited my order and swapped the AlN for Ruby. I started getting paranoid about AlN dust for whatever reason (unfounded or not, I rather not worry)

Mine landed today on the east coast. Seems pretty cool so far though I read the instructions and don't see anywhere it says how to set preset temperatures. I only vaped a tiny dab but it was nice and flavorful on the AlN. Definitely will need water though as there isn't enough cooling dry I think. I will revisit this thread when I have more experience with it.

Edit: figured out you just press the side button once to switch between presets. Neat interface. The AlN definitely cleans up nice it seems.
