People will make fun of this. But James Cameron hasn't made a move in like 15 years and he STILL holds 2 of the top 10 spots on the list of highest grossing movies ever. I don't know if he's ever made a flop either.

This is fucking criminal. A little odd to see this coming out of The Rand Corporation. An org that, to the best of my knowledge, represents the Corporate/Government alliance that keeps Americans paying the highest healthcare prices in the modern world. But they're right.

There's something galling about the corporations that rule this country pumping corn syrup into every part of the food supply, helping to create a fuck ton of diabetics. Then gouging those diabetics on the medicine they need to survive.

Google something like "Diabetes Insulin Death" and you'll be inundated with stories of people, many in their 20's, dying because they couldn't afford insulin or didn't ration it properly. Absolutely unconscionable in the richest nation on earth. A damning indictment of a government totally beholden to corporate interests.

And the grift goes on...
Texas 'Anti-Woke' Bank Goes Bust In 3 Months

It's been a real tough November for "anti-wokeness". Just L after L for those people.

A bank startup backed by billionaire Donald Trump supporter Peter Thiel and pitched as “anti woke” for “pro-freedom” Americans is closing up shop after less than three months.

LOL'd at the first line. Peter Thiel is an absolute psychopath. If you're a fan of HBO's Silicon Valley, he's the guy they were making fun of with the whole "blood boy" thing. Peter injects blood from young donors in an attempt to live forever.

Peter also believes America should do away with this whole democracy thing. We need to have a dictator instead. Peter funded JD Vance's Senate campaign. JD, the author of "Hillbilly Elegy" and a complete fraud, has said we need an "American Caesar" to rule with an iron fist.

I do appreciate the Right Wing returning to their 18th century roots and advocating for a restoration of the monarchy. It's kind of like how baggy jeans are making a comeback.

Old & In the Way
If there were a Depressings News Stories of the Day thread, I would put this there.
But surely we don't need that thread.

Doesn't even a pig deserve better, given that they pay with their lives at the end?

In the Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them category:
That seems somewhat encouraging. knowing how these tricks manipulate one is helpful but since they exploit the way we function on a fundamental level it still takes constant vigilance and effort to recognize and resist the exploits.

I encourage everyone to watch the videos of the obedience experiments and the conformity experiments. They are enlightening and chilling.

LOL. Apartheid Clyde over here believes "free speech" is when companies pay him money. What a dumbfuck.

Twitter had the worst ROI of any online social media platform before the site was acquired by this idiot and the guys who did 9/11. Musk made the site into an even bigger shitshow. What's the upside for Apple here? They lose nothing waiting to see how this all pans out.

I still appreciate Elon though. Just like I appreciate the Uvalde Police Department. In a post Uvalde world, I can now safely write off any person who starts fellating cops as "heroes who keep us safe" as baby brains. Adults with the brains of a baby. It's a real time saver.

After the past month, I can now write off anyone who says shit like "capitalism is a meritocracy where the cream rises to the top". 👶🧠

Major L for Joe Brandon.

Tony Caldwell, president of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees—which rejected the proposed deal—told The Washington Post that "during [the] pandemic, our members suffered the most. The pandemic spread through our membership like wildfire. We lost members to sickness and death. They aren't happy with the deal because it didn't address their main issue: sick leave."

Asking for paid sick time isn't unreasonable in 2022. Yet the President seems to think it is. That's why he's siding with railway corporate bosses and asking Congress to bust this strike.

Joe Brandon, correctly, points out that a railroad strike would be devastating to the economy. Cool. So force the fucking bosses to accommodate this very reasonable demand. It takes two to tango. But in this country (and the UK) it's always the workers who get blamed for strikes.

Railroad corps are not struggling small businesses. Joe can ask them to pay sick time like most other companies.

At least we know which side Joe is on.

Honestly not surprising the way that capitalism has slowly continued to strengthen its stranglehold. The entire pandemic was a perfect demonstration of how little the working class matters.

Give people decent benefits and time off?! Cut into profits?! How will the executives afford their indulgent lifestyle of excess?! How dare the socialists suggest such an offensive idea!

Villainizing of unions has been so successful during my lifetime I regularly hear working class people who would greatly benefit from unionization spouting their disdain for them.

This kind of stuff always reminds me of this old gem.
