I completely forgot about that gem! Better than anything Lin Manuel Miranda has ever done.
The pope is one of the few "Pro-Life" people I respect. Because he isn't just "pro-birth". He's against capital punishment, like many popes. But he's also for universal healthcare, affordable childcare, and generally making life easier to live for the working class so they're able to start stable families. You know, the stuff virtually every American "pro-lifer" is vehemently opposed to.

BATON ROUGE - U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy is under fire after he suggested Louisiana's high maternal mortality rate is not as bad if you factored out its larger Black population compared to other states.
Senator Cassidy says Louisiana's maternal mortality rate really isn't so bad if you subtract a third of the population from the numbers. But why subtract them? He should just count black mothers dying as 3/5's as bad as when a white mother dies.
The entire United States has the worst maternal and infant mortality in the First World. Both are getting worse every year too.

This fails to recognize that like 400 of those deaths were from COVID. Gunfire was the number 1 cause of deaths for children under 18. Not cops. My guess is after COVID the next most likely thing to kill a cop is spontaneous cardiac explosion from climbing a flight of stairs. Being a Pizza delivery driver or garbage man is more dangerous than being a cop. But I don't have to clap for them at baseball games.

Police need far more training and far less attitude.
As far as guns go of course more kids are killed by guns tban cops, cops are armed and will shoot back, they'll likely miss but they are armed. Kids rely on adults for protection, since tbe cops proved again you ca t rely on them we need more armed adults trained in tbe proper usage. As a side note more people die from punches and kicks rhan assualt weapons every year same with hammers and knives. Now handguns on the other hand kill more than all of tbe above combined (6000). Drunk drivers kill 10,000. So more traffic enforcement and cracking down on violence with handguns will save the most lives annually.

I thought the police were the ones trained in gun use, protecting people? That doesn't seem to be working very well.
Oh, why not just "train" the kids to protect themselves with guns, since grownups are failing to do so?
Guns are a tool of death. More guns= more death.
The rest of the world sees we are obsessed with guns and death and that we do nothing to change.

We don't know for sure exactly what happened yet. Mostly because the cops have changed their story multiple times. But it seems pretty clear the cops didn't exactly act bravely here. 40 minutes waiting around while civilians were being slaughtered.
The same situation played out in Parkland. The same thing at the Orlando nightclub shooting. Shit, there were cops IN Columbine BEFORE the shooting back when I was in High School 20 years ago. The shooters knew there were good guys with guns inside the school. Didn't deter them.
I have neighbors who get up every morning to fly the "Thin Blue Line" flag. At this point, should be putting on big floppy shoes and a red nose before they do it. Bus Driver, Roofer, Electrician... all more dangerous jobs than being a cop. Even being a groundskeeper is more dangerous. We may not like it, but this is what an American Hero looks like:
I own two handguns and have shot an AR-15 a few times. Handguns are way harder to use, especially for an untrained teenager bent on killing as many kids as possible, as fast as possible.

Every fucking day that goes by, there's some new revelation that paints these cops as useless cowards. It doesn't help that they've changed their story multiple times either. If a suspect changed their story like 4 times, what would you think about that person? The only way this gets worse is if the cops shot some of these kids themselves, which is not out of the realm of possibility at this point. They're still clearly in CYA mode.

Many people seem to have the false impression (maybe because its wriiten on police cars) that it is tbe job or duty of the police to protect and serve the public. Those people are massively mistaken, It is not and tbe courts have said so.

If there's a good guy with a gun stopping a violent crime, chances are he wont be wearing a uniform and carrying a badge.
Keep in mind they're saying 150 cops stood outside and let kids be killed because they were afraid to go after a skinny 18 year old untrained punk because they were afraid to be shot. Yet somehow people think the same cops will go door to door and take guns from combat vets and inner city gangs. LMAO.

You're 100% correct. But there's still a widespread sentiment in this country that cops are heroes who need to have their boots licked as much as possible. That's what I can't square in my head. Multiple times per year I'll be in a restaurant or something where there's a uniformed cop and some loser will say "thank you for your service". I've been at baseball and soccer games where everybody is expected to clap for these "heroes who keep us safe".
Earlier this year I was at Disney World with my girlfriend's family. There was a show with audience participation and the character asked this 5 year old boy "what do you want to be when you grow up??". The kid said "a police officer". My girlfriend and I were the only two white people in the theater who didn't give him a standing ovation.
As far as cops having "no duty to protect" according to courts, this pretty old video sums it up nicely...
LOL, the flip side of this are dudes who will have a "Blue Lives Matter" bumper sticker next to their "Come and Take It!" bumper sticker. Bitch, who do you think will be coming to take it in that scenario??

With lidar tech getting better I think we're going to see more discoveries like this, especially in places which have covered up by nature.
What saddens me is the amount or ancient history that has been destroyed by humans callousness. Here in New England there are tons of stone structures that have never really been explained. Some of the biggest ones were destroyed when they were building highways and developing the land.

All I have to say on that is some of the most ancient man made objects still around could not be duplicated by today's humans. We lost technology that vanished around the Younger Dryas. We cannot cut or move stone like they did prior to that event.

Humans with the same exact brains as ours have existed for over 200,000 years. History is what, 8,000 years old? I find it hard to believe they were all just vibing in the woods for the other 192,000 years. All of recorded history could've played out multiple times during that period.
