are the exact comments you're referring to here? Because I HIGHLY doubt someone got up on stage and said "We need to destroy Israel".
"From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free"
I got news for you. Europe and the United States don't financially support Israel out of the goodness of their hearts.
It's not news to me, I've actually posted about this before on FC, not sure if it was I. This thread.
They want a like minded ally in a region rich with oil. There absolutely is a connection between this longstanding conflict and climate change.
Among other reasons, sure. The west uses Israeli Jews as a pawn to its own advantage. The call for the destruction of Israel during this march isn't because of some connection to oil though. That connection is only used by some to legitimize the call for the destruction of Israel during a climate march. The cause for that call for the destruction of Israel is the view that Israel is occupying Palestinian land.
I dunno. Doesn't really look like the 20 year old is the one making an ass out of herself here. And "I'm here for a climate change rally, not for politics" is such a funny line.
You understand that people don't randomly grab the mic from a speaker to make a statement like this, right? A speaker before Thunberg was shouting the aforementioned phrase. When Thunberg took the mic, she handed it back to the one who had shouted that phrase. So yeah, I think my explanation as defending calls for the destruction of Israel is totally warranted.
Frankly, most people under the age of 45 aren't going to find anything very objectionable about what Thunberg said.
Conjecture.
So what's the problem here exactly? Now old people are gonna be less sympathetic to solving climate change? LOL, because they were doing such a GREAT job before!
Plenty of people under 45 don't care about climate. A huge march is a way to get attention for the issue. Now the attention goes toward this leftist infighting cliche. It's self sabotage. That's not gonna convince those people of either getting behind climate action nor supporting Palestine. It's just virtue signaling within the echo chamber, and beyond that they are hollow words, only showing the dissension among the left, among the climate movement.
Also there's old people with lots of reach, especially in their own age group, that feel the need to openly distance themselves from this diluting of climate activism with this political activism. But it seems that as far as you're concerned anyone above 45 isn't worth the effort? As you are generalizing the demographic with high voting turnout among other forms of influence.
I also like that this girl is now the international spokesperson for "The Left".
Oh but she isn't. She's still nothing more than that climate girl in the eyes of a lot of people.
(I'm not gonna discuss this any further. As non native speaker it cost me some effort and time to write out these posts and I've said what I want about the issue)
