A 26-year-old Stanford grad student created a simple test to predict which pregnancies are likely to become premature deliveries

[P]reterm birth is the leading cause of infant death, and surviving preemies can develop short and long-term complications including those affecting the lungs, heart, and brain.

But Mira Moufarrej says it doesn't have to be that way. The 26-year-old Stanford bioengineering graduate student developed simple blood tests that identify pregnancies at risk of preterm birth, as well as preeclampsia, accurately and early.

A farmer was left stunned when one of his calves was born with a third eye in the middle of its head.
A vet spotted the third eye on the calf, which is otherwise perfectly healthy, after it was born on a farm in Gwynedd, North Wales.
It has now been nicknamed Isaiah on social media because one eye is higher than the others.
Beef farmer Jake Jones, 32, said he had never seen anything like it before at his farm at Brynmawr.
He said: "I asked the vet what it was while she was was testing it for TB and she said it was an eye!"

Vet Malan Hughes, from Pwllheli, shared a picture of the calf saying she "could not believe what we spotted today" and asking if anyone else had ever seen anything similar.
Hughes said: "Having a calf or any animal with this impairment is extremely rare. I have never heard of, or seen one like this before.
"The calf seems perfectly healthy. We were doing other work with the herd when we noticed the fault. He will surely live a normal life for such an animal."
She added: "Vets tend to see all sorts of things - cyclops lambs and animals born with two heads – but I have never seen anything like this before.
"From the outside the extra eye looks fine. It has eyelids and eyelashes, and it is moist too, as if some kind of lubricant is being secreted.
"But it’s impossible to know if anything is going on behind the eye."
She said the calf, a four-month-old Belgian Blue-cross-Friesian which is still destined for the food chain, should lead a "normal" life .
"It does not act any differently from any other calf," she added.
"As a veterinary practice, we will certainly be treating it with the same care we give every animal."
A spokesperson for the National Farmers Union told Yahoo News UK: "Our chief livestock adviser had not heard of this before, so presume it's very rare and a result of genetic issue or problem when the cells were dividing in the embryo. As rule we see very few abnormalities in cattle. They assume there will be no welfare issues and the animal will grow normally."
In 2014, villagers in Tamil Nadu flocked to visit a three-eyed calf called Shiva - named after the Hindu god who is depicted with a third eye.

The ‘two societies’: 97% of new COVID cases are among people who haven’t gotten the shots

[H]e offhandedly remarked that of King County’s recent COVID-19 cases, 97% had occurred in unvaccinated people.

It effectively meant the only people still catching coronavirus here in King County are people who haven’t gotten the shots. It also means the disease that just a few months ago threatened the entire nation is now almost exclusively circulating among a shrinking few.

This seems to be a fairly big story I completely missed. Probably because it's in Newsweek. But it sure looks like the US Intel community has thousands of agents living under secret identities across the country. Something's off about Bob in Accounting? Decent chance he's a CIA spook.

The question this article never answers is... what is this secret army doing exactly? 60,000 spooks, driving around with Fake ID's, in cars registered to another Fake ID, working at regular suburban office jobs... why?

Exclusive: Inside the Military's Secret Undercover Army

The largest undercover force the world has ever known is the one created by the Pentagon over the past decade. Some 60,000 people now belong to this secret army, many working under masked identities and in low profile, all part of a broad program called "signature reduction." The force, more than ten times the size of the clandestine elements of the CIA, carries out domestic and foreign assignments, both in military uniforms and under civilian cover, in real life and online, sometimes hiding in private businesses and consultancies, some of them household name companies.

The unprecedented shift has placed an ever greater number of soldiers, civilians, and contractors working under false identities, partly as a natural result in the growth of secret special forces but also as an intentional response to the challenges of traveling and operating in an increasingly transparent world. The explosion of Pentagon cyber warfare, moreover, has led to thousands of spies who carry out their day-to-day work in various made-up personas, the very type of nefarious operations the United States decries when Russian and Chinese spies do the same.

Newsweek's exclusive report on this secret world is the result of a two-year investigation involving the examination of over 600 resumes and 1,000 job postings, dozens of Freedom of Information Act requests, and scores of interviews with participants and defense decision-makers. What emerges is a window into not just a little-known sector of the American military, but also a completely unregulated practice. No one knows the program's total size, and the explosion of signature reduction has never been examined for its impact on military policies and culture. Congress has never held a hearing on the subject. And yet the military developing this gigantic clandestine force challenges U.S. laws, the Geneva Conventions, the code of military conduct and basic accountability.

Pull to the right and stop. PULL TO THE RIGHT AND STOP! Fuck you then.

Video shows trooper allegedly flipping pregnant woman’s car for not stopping fast enough

"Allegedly", heh.

I'd say the only thing that would excuse this behavior is if this was some "24", Jack Bauer, ISIS is about the drive a dirty bomb into an orphanage on puppy-therapy day shit. Given that the driver clearly signaled their intent to stop, I sort of doubt it's anything like that.

I should've added a DO NOT READ ON EDIBLES trigger warning on this one. Mb, guys.

How many oceans are there on Earth? National Geographic now says five.

For the first time in the more than 100 years that the National Geographic Society has mapped the world’s oceans, it will recognize five of them. The organization announced this week that it will recognize the Southern Ocean, a body of water that encircles Antarctica, as the world’s fifth.

I am told that an article about an older known issue in regards to the fear mongering over Covid is not political. You should see the other non-political articles out there in regards to hydroxycloriquine, about the success and failure of different mitigations chosen by local governments in regards to health and the economy and some other issues. (Including a cool link between the actions of major pharmaceutical companies and the government. Why would the government roll-back some protections for the price of basic drugs like insulin?)

The Truth is coming out in a number of areas. Fear mongering only encourages the continuance of mitigations that are being shown to have greatly damaged economies without any concomitant health benefits. Either Covid discussion and articles should be allowed or they should not be allowed.

Covid is nothing! Look out for MERS! It's JUST a few mutations away from killing us all.
MERS-CoV just a few mutations away from becoming a pandemic threat
...The researchers suggest the reason that the variant from the samples collected in the Middle East has not yet mutated to infect humans is due to the dromedary trade—it is virtually one way, with the animals being traded from Africa to the Middle East. They note that if the trade reverses at some point, or another animal becomes a carrier and is traded to Africa, mutations could arise, setting off a deadly pandemic.

Beware The Under Toad

Hallucinogenic Toads Are Too Popular for Their Own Good

In recent years, psychedelic enthusiasts have been rounding up Sonoran Desert toads in order to obtain their secretions, which contain a powerful hallucinogenic substance called 5-MeO-DMT.

In “toad medicine circles”—underground ceremonies that take place across the country in swanky areas, from Malibu and Santa Fe to what one participant described as “the floor of a chic apartment on the Upper West Side” of New York City—the psychedelic has become the latest trendy shortcut to spiritual awakening.
