He was one of the most hated men in America at the time.

Americans see Martin Luther King Jr. as a hero now, but that wasn’t the case during his lifetime

When Americans were asked which three Americans they had the least respect for in a 1964 Gallup poll, King came in second at 42%. This was barely less than the 47% registered by George Wallace, the segregationist governor of Alabama. Only 17% mentioned King’s name, when asked which three Americans they had the most respect for.

It is extremely difficult for people to face their own flaws and failures. MLK made the racism in this country clear and obvious and required people to acknowledge it, even if that resulted in many of them giving in to it. Americans were forced to deal with the fact that we had not gotten over the Civil War and reconstruction was more a failure than a success. Those are hard truths, especially for those with a poor understanding of what "exceptionalism" really means in America. Even today, most noticeably in Florida at this moment, many want to hide from the truth of the past, rather than face it and progress. They find comfort in their misunderstanding of exceptionalism, as if it only applies to white men.

”You’re going to have people potentially just stuck on the side of the road, I mean, if you fill up your tank with diesel and then you start driving it, it’s not going to end well,” he said.
Imagine if you will, a timeline where meatball Ron is instead mechanic Ron. He just understands cars better than people, infinitely better. I know it doesn't take a mechanic to know basic shit like this but it just sprang to mind and it's a timeline I think would be preferable to the reality. Regardless, pretty awful timing for this kind of a blunder and I hope it's not as bad as expected(storm and tainted gas).

Speaking of not understanding people...

though no evidence of Communist influence.

ehhhhhhh.... I mean there was no evidence he was involved with any Communist Party. Or the Soviets.

But let's be honest here. The FBI finally murdered him after he started making noises like this:

"We must recognize that we can't solve our problem now until there is a radical redistribution of economic and political power... this means a revolution of values and other things. We must see now that the evils of racism, economic exploitation and militarism are all tied together... you can't really get rid of one without getting rid of the others... the whole structure of American life must be changed. America is a hypocritical nation and [we] must put [our] own house in order."

or

"Call it democracy, or call it democratic socialism, but there must be a better distribution of wealth within this country for all God's children."

MLK was a socialist. And our government murdered him over it. For all the talk of how "Left Wing" our educational system is, we hide this fact from kids.

Speaking of which, after getting educated by a bunch of MARXISTS in High School and College, I didn't find this out until I'm in my late 30's: Albert Einstein, the smartest guy who ever lived, was a fucking socialist. He wrote a book about it:

Kinda weird that we hide this fact from students, huh? Again, this is the smartest guy who ever lived. He, more than any Business Genius, is responsible for the cushy, technologically advanced life we live today. We literally cut out his brain to study it after he died.

God this guy fucking sucks. At the debate, Vivek said he's the only one who can tell the "truth" about the "climate hoax". Because he's the only one who isn't "bought and paid for".

Well it turns out this fucking lying scam artist is bought and paid for. By the fossil fuel industry. For $50 million to be exact.

Why can't dummies who see conspiracy theories everywhere ever draw a simple straight line between: Getting paid millions from the oil industry.... And spouting climate change denial bullshit? Pathetic.

For all the talk of how we need to get all the old people out of politics, the two smarmiest politicians to enter the scene recently are Millennials in their 30's: Vivek and Mayor Pete.

These two dorks were at the same 2004 campaign event!

Pete Buttegieg is gonna make a good president one day. Somehow, I suspect it won't bother him that you think he's smarmy.

I honestly doubt it. His breed of neoliberalism isn't very popular with younger, likely Democrat voters who will be voting in future elections. Pete would've been better suited running in the 90's.

One of my favorite moments from the 2020 campaign:

The company he worked for is McKinsey. One of those disgusting management consulting companies that charges 7 figures for "advice" like, "you guys should lay off 30% of your workforce and ship the jobs to India".

In my opinion, guys like this have no place in America's only (ostensibly) left wing political party.

That having been said, Vivek is a much bigger scumbag. And a much bigger dork.

I think this is less Eminem making a political statement, and more preventing a giant fucking nerd from butchering his songs in public.

I have no arguments with you on Ramaswamy. I think he's an idiot and will get nowhere in politics. Personally, I see him as a bad version of Andrew Yang.
But Buttegieg is a different story, and like it or not I think he has a future in politics, especially among the younger voters. And he is far and away the most capable Democrat for making Fox News commentators look like the fools that they are. Being able to go on their network and make them look feeble is a useful skill in American politics.

Maybe way down the line. And you're right, I won't be happy about it. But in the foreseeable future I just don't see why they'd go with the former mayor of a small college town and the most scandal ridden Transportation Secretary in recent memory, and not one of the many successful, popular Democrat Governors on offer.

Just gonna leave these here...

He may talk smart and he might actually be smart but he's also one of the slimiest politicians there is and I also hope he never gets to be president. Mayor Pete loves to brag about his work with McKinsey but he really hates being asked about specifics.

I can't stand seeing this dude fall apart in public! I mean for goodness sake know when enough is enough and slip into the shadows!

He literally glitched out during the question "are you planning to run again in 2026" and I'm certain the answer to that is "yes".

Fuck that hateful bastard but I agree seeing this still makes me sad.

Mitch is a demon. But there's some kind of genetic human thing in me that doesn't like seeing the elderly suffer.

I have my limits though. If Henry Kissinger was literally on fire in front of me, I'd run and get marshmallows.
