Maybe this is because the tobacco came directly from a cigarette? I often see people empty out a cig to mix it with weed and it just tastes terrible.

There's a reason why cigarettes have a giant cotton filter. The tobacco is laced with all sorts of other chemicals and it really requires a decent filter. When you have no filter or just a paper filter in a joint or blunt, it really tastes nasty. Pipe tobacco would probably be better but I'll pass on any nicotine thank you very much.

Nope. I've experimented with mixing my flower with cigaretter tobacco, pipe tobacco, cigar tobacco, and other kinds of tobacco I could buy at the tobacco shop. In my experience any type of tobacco/weed mixture is ten times harsher on my throat than either by itself, and therefore an uncomfortable coughing waste of both.

I dunno. I feel a little bad because I have relapsed a little lately.

I love my vaporizers, dab rigs, etc. And I've barely ever combusted the last several years or more. However, in the last couple of years I have been doing more outdoor, nature activities (hiking, camping, fishing, kayaking), and for some reason in the last year or so, I just feel more like smoking sometimes when I'm way out in nature. I often take a joint, blunt, or pipe for my hike up/down the mountain, wade through the river fishing, or while paddling my kayak.

I dunno, though I prefer vaporizing 95% of the time, smoking just feels right sometimes when out in nature.

It's stupid, I know. Do I need to repent?
I feel you, I hate smoking but the few times I smoked instead of vaporizing were when I had to be outside for a few days (festivals for example)

it is way more practical that is for sure and you can share more easily ect... I'm a medical user and I'm using so much weed every day that I would have to bring like 3 or 4 devices and a shitton of batteries just to last a few days, it is not realistic for me

I never get the urge to smoke again and I always regret it, but nothing is easier (outside) nor cheaper

Bring joints to share, stick to the vape for yourself!

Butane powered vapes are much more convenient for this situation.

Yeah I also smoked tobacco with my weed. Over here in the UK spliff culture is the dominant way of consuming. Helps save your weed as itā€™s illegal here, also helps burn some of the stickier UK weed like cheese.

Plus itā€™s always funny to confuse the yanks ;)

I used rolling tobacco, and yeah it made it a lot smoother and also changed the high. If I didnā€™t use tobacco Iā€™d have intense coughing fits.

I did however notice after a week of trying to smoke herb without baccy that something adjusted and I stopped coughing as much. I coughed with my first few cigs, and then got used to them as well. I really think itā€™s a question of simply getting used to smoking whatever mix you choose to smoke more than one being objectively smoother or tastier than another. All just preference and whatever youā€™re used to!

I find it hard to smoke now I vape full time, and itā€™s a shocking drop in taste when I do smoke now. I think though, if vapes disappeared overnight Iā€™d probably be used to smoking again a week or two later and not find the taste so unpalatable

Yesterday i was so stoned that I let the tempest cycle run twice with my wandā€¦.I inhaled like there was no tomorrow and inevitably combusted, it had been about 2 years since I had combusted and honestly I remembered why I stopped smoking. I don't demonize smokers but honestly it seems like a waste, the vapor is so good compared to smokingā€¦my bong was smelling terrible šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø
Personally, I decided to say stop to smoking, mainly because of the smell it leaves on clothes, in the environment, in the mouth. Every now and then I miss smoking outdoors, rolling it, etc., but a good vaporizer does the job even outdoors and so I always choose vaporization anyway.
If i combust it is an error

Us Europeans love to 'baffle' our American cousins.... Been doing it for years with our strange habits and customs :D
Isn't it the other way around?

I sometimes miss the simpler times of only having to carry some baccy, a few skins and a few grams of lovely hash.
It somehow did feel simpler, strange

I'm with chicken! I always found a pure joint harsher than a spliff too, but didn't have a problem with pure pipe or bong bowls...
Same, was a spliff smoker and pipe smoker.

Seriously I don't think I could even smoke to be social anymore, but I could if that's all that was available.
I'm social with my vape?

Same, but I usually pass on joints/bowls offered to me. Some feel that's unsociable, while others feel pressured to conform. I've puffed away in social settings in my post-smoking life, but it's been very rare and for special occasions (funerals, reunions, etc). More to join in celebration of some sort than to acquiesce.

Because I had a new glass rig arrive (more on that later) I decided to combust a hit (the second I've done in recent weeks and for the same reason, "testing" a new bong).

Big mistake. Or a reminder just how much I prefer a beautiful low-temp vape to combustion.

Fuck combustion!

That's what I meant, im socially unsociable with my vape. They get to have my company. i almost always pass 99%.

I donā€™t think combusting make me a ā€œBad vaporizerā€, as it is that smoking is second from the bottom of my list of ways to consume, and there is almost always something handy I like better. Last dozen or so times I combusted was trying to learn how to use a Dynavap.

I love my Vapor Genie Aluminum for pure convection power and great taste, but after many years I still suffer an occasional ā€œflare upā€.
That instant power though keeps it in rotation!

Shortly after cannabis became legal in my state I received a bunch of free pre-rolls (like 14 of them in total...). Initially I gave some away but one night after a few drinks I decided to go outside and smoke one in the dark, just like I did years ago before I started vaping. It was different but enjoyable and in some ways nostalgic and so for a while I found myself smoking a pre-roll every time I'd drink but before long the novelty wore off and I don't have any inclination to do it anymore and whether that's just for now or forever I don't really care.

Some of this thread reminds me a little of some of the posts I used to see on E-Cigarette-Forum where people would switch from cigarettes to ecigs and then come to the forum to beat themselves up after vaping for X weeks and then having one or a few cigarettes. On the ecig side of things they sometimes refer to vaping as a "harm reduction" strategy and DHVs are just the cannabis equivalent of that. So it doesn't matter much if you slip up, for the most part, because of all the smoking you DIDN'T do before you slipped up. You're probably way better off than you were the last time you smoked if you've been vaping in between. When I had that first pre-roll there was some slight disappointment at the thought of "It's been so many years since I've smoked!" but it's not something I thought about for long or something that really gave me any pause, the only thing that bothered me was how many times I could have packed the vape from each joint.

Hello everyone,

I am so committed to becoming a vapourist that I actually joined the forum! After 20 years of smoking (with tobacco mixed in - it's cultural) I'm now seeing the light.

However, despite a few obviously successful sessions I still have this nagging disbelief that vaporisation works. Often during a session I catch myself doubting that the effect I'm having is anything except light-headedness from huffing hot air through a restrictive tube. Often I don't see any vapour although I can taste changes in flavour. When it does kick in I'm so impressed that it works but a part of me is more amazed at what I read about people feeling effects off what I consider tiny doses... is my tolerance too high? Am I doing it wrong? Is it all in my head? Have I got the wrong kit? Am I feeling anything at all or is it all psycho-somatic? Aaaagh!

Someone shared a few spliffs at a party recently and I was surprised at how bad the taste now seemed to me. But I didn't doubt their effect....

I liked rolling spliffs as it was one of the few things I stuck with until I was good at it, plus the social aspect was good. However the baccy must go and I will try to master these new vaping variables. Pray for me

What device are you using?

That's a big difference with smoking:
when smoking joints all you need is a lighter and a well rolled joint and you're as good as it gets with the weed at hand but when vaping the device/method also has a lot of impact on the experience so a good vape (that suits your style) is essential to make the transition easier.

I came from smoking joints (with tobacco) too so the challenge was double: next to having to find the best vaporizer to fit my (weed)needs i also had a nicotine addiction from smoking joints all those years (never smoked a cigarette). So i also got some help from using a cheap nicotine vape on the side to get rid of the nicotine cravings.

The mind plays games with you when you try to break any habit. It will try to convince you that smoking is better, it's not. And with cannabis consumption, your fighting against not only habit, but also the ritual involved, grinding, laying out your paper, rolling, etc. it takes a while to break habits and the mind games your brain plays on you during that period. And part of your problem is the tobacco addiction your fighting at the same time. That cultural thing is insidious and perpetuates tobacco consumption. And burning cannabis has some of the same negative components as tobacco, such as Formaldehyde, carbon monoxide, etc . When you start vaping, your body "misses" these pollutants.

Try a mix of smoking joints ( NO tobacco! ) and vaping. Beat your tobacco issues first. then go to just vaping. Vaping dry herb is the best thing ever to happen to cannabis! I've long said the whole thing of people "tasting" flavors in smoke is nonsense, smoke taste like smoke! But vaping, ohhh my, the flavors DO exist! And when my pain flares up, I can vape enough GDP that I can barely walk lol! And I've consumed cannabis for almost 60 years.
