Tong to the rescue !
I've been using a pair of Solos as my daily drivers for quite some time. I ordered an herbalaire, in part seeking a more consistent/precise experience. I've been wanting to try bags, as well.
While i've had the HA for a while now, I managed to crack my solo gong before i even had a chance to "borrow" it for use with the Herbalaire. Finally, this week i got my (unbreakable
) tong adapter and a lowpro adapter (for clearance, see pic) and have had a couple nights to "evaluate" hehe.
I haven't had the opportunity to compare it to my Solo usage, as that was all direct draw + gong... (HA was much hotter than solo, 1st/only time i tried it.) In a few weeks or so, when i've had the chance i'll toss some thoughts about that in here.
Till then, all i can say is i love it, and......
here's mah setup:
and here's my take on the tong-crucible-conversion & a little tidbit i enjoy using for concentrates.
Left is a filthy ceramic screen from VB's ez-change whip kit. I luv loading it up with goo and tossing it in there. It matches the inner diameter of the crucible nicely. To shorten the crucible for tong-usage, more or less all i did is plop that section of dowel in, put a small cutoff wheel on my dremel and shoved it in, turned it on, and let it do it's thing. The dowel kept it level and at a consistent depth. Smoothed out the edges, too, of course.
