Herb Grinders

I very carefully use my fingers. I have tried tweezers and needlenose pliars but it's such a PITA.

Dude, thanks for explaining that to me! SLX is my next! But when you take the screen out aren't there "things" in the way? Like the things that are used to "catch" the screen. Haven't watched the videos on it yet.

You know, if you go back in this thread I actually bought the SLX 2.0 large at the same time as my kannastor last year on 4/20, only the SLX was out of stock so I only received the kannastor which I recently sold (and regret doing so).

What's this super weapon 2? Who else are the big boys on the block? Mendo Mulchers still have CS issues? Apparently make a helluva grinder..?

@Vapor_Eyes
Thanks for the assist lol.
Trust me, the SLX 2.0 is a great grinder. I would not recommend anyone to get an SCS over the SLX 2.0 unless the SCS was significantly cheaper. It's a great grinder in all respects.

That could be a problem, I need a SCS "large size". The only reason the Kannastor worked for me, was because it was the solid body, and actually has a bigger heftier top than the vape gr8tr.

The size isn't that different. I have both. The SCS is slightly larger in all respects. Just slightly.

Otherwise, I wouldn't pay the ridiculous price tag of the SCS just to have a "large" grinder. What does the SCS Large bring to the table other than a Large form factor and a large price tag?

Edit: I'll do a quick video of the two when I get home for you. It'll be clearer on video.

Are you looking for "large" OD or ID?

I haven't filled my SW2 up bc I just grind small bits at a time, but with the kief screen I can prob fit 3.5g ground up. If I removed the screen, maybe 5g or more... Totally unnecessary lol

I don't own a GR8TR yet, it's my next purchase. But I love the SLX and it was cheaper than the GR8TR. The largest downside is because the interior screen is removable easily to make it into a 3 piece. If you drop the grinder, it will not only lose the weed portion, but the kief portion too. Unless you aren't using it as a 4 piece, then whatever.

Because the GR8TR was more expensive, I wanted to try the SLX first, but if it's between those 2, just get whichever you like most right now. Both are good, can't go wrong.

Yeah as I said I don't filter kief anymore anyway, so SLX and GR8TR would be three pieces like my SCS. Only way to fly. But yeah I keep going back and forth  I like the idea of having a larger size since I don't yet, plus the non stick would be huge. However the supposedly consistent medium-fine even grinding capability of the GR8TR has made it very appealing as of late... I have a $25 Amazon giftcard so that would make GR8TR 40 for me there, and SLX only 30 (since it's 60 vs 65 retail, and an Amazon seller has it for 55 even)

Do it! Go large & enjoy the good times.

Haha yeah I know your stance bud! I am getting close to finally pulling the trigger ;)

Is the GrAS (Grinder Addict syndrom) something true?

Personnaly I'm still sticking with a cheap no name large grinder I bought some years ago... recently received the herborizer grinder which is pretty nice (but nothing special) although I prefer a larger one. the gring it doess is pretty decent but more on the coarse side. I also get a Vapornation grinder for free with translucid top I like but a bit small too...

Yeah man, when I first switched to an old SCS 4 piece a couple years ago I was skeptical, but they are worlds better than the cheap freebies in my experience. Better quality and more versatile too, but GrAS is very real as you can see, did not see that one coming at all lol :mental:

Here's my five year old 2.5" Sharp Stone I cleaned with ISO for the first time today. I estimate it's taken down five pounds! Pretty impressed in the life of this thing. The outside shows only cosmetic wear.

I use a 2" two piece Space Case for travel. Any suggestions for a 3" four piece? I'm considering the 2.75" Santa Cruz Shredder! I feel like it won't be much different than my Sharp Stone though.

The bottom chamber is what catches the kief screen, there is no "thing" in the way. Here's some pictures, pardon the dust. ;)

Notice the vertical grooves around the circumference of the kief screen. There are no vertical grooves visible when the grinder is fully assembled.

The bottom piece kief collector of the SLX looks like being the same depth as the kief collector of the medium 4-pc SCS. Not ample but not too small either...
I have been using my SCS as a 3-pc for the last few days and I kind of like it more like this.

The screen slips in & has a rim around the edge. It collects quality kief like crazy & I cannot recommend it highly enough. Mine has easily seen a couple of pounds run through it & works perfectly. I could buy any grinder I like but have no desire to buy another. Why downgrade?

Edit: @Vapor_Eyes beat me to it. Still it is good to have comparison shots of both sizes on the same page for the curious.

Huge thanks for the pics and explanations fellas....i'm sold, I didn't think the screen worked like that. As far as i'm concerned, that SLX 4 piece can turn into an authentic 3 piece as well!

I remember having an old 4 piece Sharpstone back in the day....it produced the best grind i've seen, better than the spacecase (finer anyways) which was the "gold standard grinder" back in the day.

GrAS:

SLX 2.0 large
Sharpstone (large)
SCS (large 3 piece)
Space Case (large)
Kannastor
Mendo Mulcher

I'll get them all eventually. Toys for boys!

Ya, I have the SCS and SLX 2.0 and I just saw the GR8TR last night at my local meetup.

Between the SLX 2.0 and the GR8TR, I couldn't imagine using any of those other grinders.

You guys intrigued me with these names I never heard of (SLX, GR8TR, etc). I did some research. Having never used one, they aren't sparking my interest.

I decided on a 2.75" Santa Cruz Shredder (SCS). It came down to that or a 3" Sharp Stone hard top, which is a steal for the price. I'll go with the Shredder as I already own a Sharp Stone. It's all a matter of taste..

The Herborizer grinder (4 pieces) get the same issue, a lot of kief deposit here and falls while opening the kief container.

You really don't lose much at all. See the ring around the kief in my picture? That is where the screen slips in & the kief stays put.

Bingo. That is why I would only want them to raise the sidewalls & concave the bottom of the chamber. Otherwise it fits all my needs perfectly.

Are Kannastor produced by the makers of Sharp Stone? The teeth and patterns look similar, and they're available in the same size increments. I haven't seen many quality clear tops.

2.2" four piece Kannastor grinder & 2.2" storage puck might make a good three piece, giving the option to switch back and forth.

all this SLX talk's got me feeling like it's something I should have in my arsenal, where can I pick one up? I don't see it being available online besides amazon or ebay and I'm hesitant to use either when it comes to buying authentic products
edit-found it at puffitup, perfect I love that company

They're so different that's why I like and want both.

Gr8tr is big. I don't own it but I'll buy it next for testing and for sciences!

It's got interchangeable parts which I love and can hold a lot of bud so it can double as tiny storage.

However the slx 2.0 is portable. The design actually is quite great as it makes it more compact without sacrificing functionality. My large SCS can hold more bud, but it's far larger dimension wise. The slx 2.0 large(close to a medium scs?) is very compact for the amount of bud you can old. It's an efficient grinder in l respects.

If I could only have one, it would be the slx.

@almost there
I contacted slx because I got terrible orders from Amazon. I thought the seller wasn't authorized. They were, but my products both has the coating coming off.

All support fixed this ASAP.

Edit : vendor is uncle Max, the only authorized dealer according to their site.

@vbeazy
I was in your position and got the SCS.
I feel like sometimes you can't appreciate the designs until you've owned and used something good already.
My main problem with SCS, sharpstone etc. Is that they are selling the sold old tired products. Things get better but their products don't. It's been years since these designs were introduced.

To believe no one was able to make something better... Well I mean come on lol.

So Hey, you may not be sold now. I wasn't, hence my SCS purchase, but once you begin to be able to see the pitfalls of a good grinder you'll realize these old tired designs can be improved and people are already doing it.

Ah hearing about coating rubbing off, potentially not being covered if I buy it on Amazon to save, has me second guessing now. Don't know if I want to risk that at all, may have to go with a GR8TR then...

Oh and SCS did update their design, the teeth on my old four piece are different than my newer three piece, they made them more complex. Not sure that it really makes a difference though, just saying

Just a quick comment. I've put my cosmic away and now mainly use my Gr8tr and Lift. I'm finding the lift easy to use and I like the way it grinds. So far there is no dust stuck to the cutting edges.

Buy it off Amazon. I already reported it awhile ago, so they probably have talked with the seller. It's their only one. I just wanted to give you full disclosure. I emailed them, and they QUICKLY sent a replacement like I said. Not slow shipping or anything, it was here and ready to use asap.

It costs you nothing either.

But the GR8TR is a great option too. I like the lift innovations one yet, but I am wary of those projects as I'm not going to say the invention is bad. But doesn't mean you're going to be great at mass production and running a company. They're 2 different things.

Honestly, just look at the pros and cons of the 2 grinders. They are "different".

The GR8TR is larger. It's not as fun to put in your pocket. But it's great to throw in a bag if you want to hold more bud. Or if you just need to hold more bud with you, you may decide on that.

GR8TR
Pros:
Larger body and dedicated storage space for bud allow it to store more bud.

Swappable parts.

Heavy top portion for grinding your buds (supposedly makes it easier GR8TR owners can comment on it better than I can)

Cons:

Larger so not as pocketable

More Expensive? (This really depends on your source. I'm not sure how much the GR8TR is at the cheapest place. I think $70 but that's what I'm assuming so switch this if you need to).

SLX 2.0 (Large Edition (Medium size of other grinders it's a compact grinder))

Pros:
Ceramic Nonstick Coating - This allows the grinder to remain cleaner longer than anything I've seen. I've not felt the need to iso dip this yet, while my SCS had bud that would stay "stuck" all around the thing forever. It really irritated me but this isn't about the SCS.

The Screen: This is slightly unfair since I don't have experience with the GR8TR screen. However, this thing collects kief. Again, sorry to bash on the SCS, it's the only grinder I currently have other than the SLX 2.0 but compared to that thing, this thing collect KIEF!!! The SCS just sucked pretty much in comparison. I always expected to get a lot of kief with the SCS with how much bud I ground in it since I didn't vape at the time, but nope... I vape with the SLX and I get a ton of Kief.

Cons:
Smaller so it holds less bud. - Coming from an SCS Large edition, this is significant to me. But if you're a smaller user it won't matter. I don't use much since I'm ALWAYS vaping. If you like to carry all your bud in a grinder and don't want to carry a secondary source this will be an ever larger con.

Screen Compartment isn't Secured - This is a minor con or a major con depending on how you look at it. I've dropped an open SCS before, but the kief section is secured, so you only lose your bud. Ok. In the SLX 2.0 - This portion is removable to make it a 3 piece. But if you drop it while using it as a 4 piece, boom there goes your kief too. I salvaged mine when I dropped it, I got ripped.....

---

They're both great grinders that do interesting things. You could be happy either way, or be happy with BOTH.

Regarding the updated SCS design.
When did this happen? I think I have it.
