I haven't used the new HerbRipper (2020) but between the HR XL and the BCG the BCG provides a more consistent grind as you move up in coarseness. The HR medium plate grinds medium/fine and the fine plate grinds fine. The fine plate on the HR and BCG are very close. The HR coarse plate grinds more coarse then the BCG coarse plate.

Because the newest HerbRipper is advertised as either coarse or medium/fine I would expect the consistency to remain the same. Until we see a review though I can't say for sure.

GFL is coming out with an XL version hopefully this month if that might interest you. The medium plate for your existing BCG would be a really good bet since you already have the top and bottom.

@Snooppossum: So far I’m loving my Crown grinder. I feel the grind is fluffier than my SLX which is fluffier than my Space Case. I think the SCS produces the fluffiest grind I’ve seen but I haven’t used the BCG. I do like a fluffy grind but I feel size and consistency are more important. I would suggest first trying the BCG medium plate before you buy a new grinder.

I’ve continued testing my Crown and it’s still performing well. I’ve been using both plates with good results in my convection vapes; E-Nano, Sticky Bricks, Grasshopper & Hopper io. I prefer a finer grind in general. The first strain I ran through the Crown fine plate was a bit moist and resulted in a medium-fine consistency. The next strain I tried was a bit dry and the consistency was noticeably finer, enough to reduce airflow but not unmanageable. The medium plate produces a nice fluffy consistent medium grind.

I’ve been searching for a grinder that won’t lock up. I often get very high potency strains and the SLX will lock up once THC gets around the 24% mark. My Space Case “titanium” finish actually handles high potency cannabis better than the SLX but the rim around the edge eventually builds up grinder hash and then it starts to stick.

The Crown isn’t grinding or pushing anything against the outer edge so I figured I could eliminate that problem. The first moist strain I ground was 19.8% THC and didn’t stick at all, it ground quickly also, in less than 10 seconds. The second strain I tried was 26.7% and the first time I used too little pressure at first and it didn’t grind much, just moved the material around so I gave it a bit more pressure and it worked well. The second time I used too much pressure at first and it did stick a little, but the grinder pieces weren’t locked up and I simply opened it up, moved the buds and used less pressure and it worked well.

It’s not finicky at all but it’s a different feeling than a normal grinder. It doesn’t close all the way until you have ground all your material. You let the magnet do most of the work and use light pressure while “rocking it” back and forth. I haven’t had any more problems, it grinds a gram or more in less than 10 seconds every time. I’ve since used an even stronger (27.8%) strain that’s been curing at 62% humidity and it ground up effortlessly.

There are a few other things I like about the Crown. The toothless design makes it really simple and fast to load. Both the fine plate and medium plate are included. The herb milling chamber is completely stainless steel so it should hold up better than aluminum with extended use.

One area it could be improved is if it were a threadless design. The herb chamber is 1/4 turn threaded so it opens quickly. The pollen chamber takes many more turns to open and the dense threads are one more thing to clean. I generally prefer a four piece grinder but I think the Crown might be best as a three piece. They have announced a three piece design. I’m not a big fan of the large logo on top. The price is high but with the stainless steel milling chamber it should last a long time.

That's exactly the sort of comparison I'm looking for, good stuff. I also prefer my grind to be on the fine side , especially with my flowerpot and I feel that the BCG fine plate is pretty good for this.

On the other hand my splinter v2 and tinymight are a bit trickier and both require their own specific grinds to get the most out of the experience. For now I'm using my 2 piece Santa Cruz shredder upside down to try and get the finest fluffy grind I can for the splinter because it benefits from the increased airflow but sometimes it still seems slightly too chunky to extract fully.

I'm still figuring out the best grind for the TM but I think it definitely needs to be a little more coarse than whatever I put in the splinter because the airflow on it is really tight compared to my other vapes.

Everything works okay for now but I'm always looking for ways to improve, a more perfect grind, etc...

I have been using gr8tr v2 for the past week and I must say that I am quite satisfied and so is my Tinymight.
I already had the original gr8tr with only the fine plate, I thought to buy the v2 because it also brings the medium plate.
After some tests with the medium plate I put the fine back.
Only against this version: the magnetic should be stronger.

I'm still loving my gr8tr v2! In fact, I am going to buy another one.
I thought about trying some of the newer grinders but I figure with the gr8tr I know
what I'm getting.

I know a lot of people were really liking the Brilliant Cut Grinder, here's the old thread --- Brilliant Cut Grinder

A little pricey but they do look nice..I've just been using this "Golden Gate Grinder" from Amazon for the last 4 or 5 years ...Been working just fine, doesn't really get ever get gunked up and clogged either. Just sweep out all the kief from the top and middle compartments every few months. I'd say it has a medium grind.

Have you heard about the boom on Mizar 5?
I'm still waiting for the new United Machining grinder to be released, the old model looks very nice. Don't know when this will be though as they have went from a projected late April release date to "we will let you know". The BCG looks real nice but there's something appealing to be about having a half pound of stainless steel grinder.

@Vapor Eyes got me pretty interested in the crown grinder as well in the old thread. I'll proably wait until the United grinder releases then make a decision, my Santa Cruz is working just fine until then.

I contacted those guys a few months ago and zero response...
They are out of stock on their website and I asked when they were going to restock.
Looks like they may never restock...

If it’s made in China, looks like a lot of businesses going under.

Yeah I've been interested in that one too, but instead I bought my second brilliant cut grinder during the 420 sale. I actually got my first during last year's sale so clearly I am a big fan! Current one is fine plate Aquamarine (fka Sky Blue) and the new one will be medium plate Amethyst (but the old original brighter more fuschia colored shade).

I used to use old OG black Santa Cruz Shredder 4piece as a 3piece (it is well worn in!) and later got their newer gunmetal 3piece (but I was really not a fan of the new teeth design compared to the older style, made it pretty useless for me unfortunately, I really should sell it...) though I was using a purple full size SLX grinder (without kief tray) before I got my BCG. I've tried using it again since then, but comparatively it is just awful, even freshly cleaned it is super tough to turn... Plus threading sucks!

So now I just use the herb trays from my black SCS and purple SLX to hold grounds from my BCG if I want to switch strains lol That is partly why I decided to just order an entire second BCG (also for the beautiful color!) I'll probably end up getting another in Hematite when they release a larger size

not to get off topic, so early in the game but, Jyarz Chico’s are a great upgrade for your surplus ground herbs!

Definitely off topic haha, but yeah I have long been interested in getting one of those, but that is much larger for more grounds at a time, I like being able to store just a little bit in a tray, easy to suck up for stem-based vapes. I honestly don't really grind up a ton at a time anymore... Meanwhile my nugs are in small mason jars already, just grab a few to grind.

@Shit Snacks

I am loving my Brilliant Cut!
The thread-less design and locking mechanism bring it up to another level!

Recently picked up a used Kannastor V2 and am also liking it a lot using the medium plate.
First grinder with a kief catcher and I am enjoying those benefits as well!!

Brilliant Cut grinders are so nice. Never used one. They are very pricey that’s for sure. They are good quality I hear.

Website says it is fully made in the USA, so who knows.
