My friend received a Mendo Mulcher today and it works fantastic, it has so many more teeth than any other grinder I have seen. For around the same price as that Kannastor above you can get the Mendo and it is made in the USA. For now I am still using the grinder that comes with the Volcano which works just about as good as the Mendo but it would be nice to have the Mendo for pollen collection.

I have to say, that after reading through this thread last week I ordered a onyx mortar and pestle for about $15 on Ebay and it is completely PERFECT for smashing bud to fine consistency suitable for the PD and also for whip based vapes. I can't imagine any grinder doing a better job. Just dry out your bud, then crush it down, which is more satisfying on a tactile level than turning a grinder, and visually this is very aesthetically pleasing. The consistency is totally right on.

mine is nice but not quite as gorgeous as this one.
i wish i could read some consensus on this versus grinders in general -
but you have to admit this is pure style and coolness and they work fantastic for our particular need.
not only that but you end up with a beautiful stash bowl.

i think this $10 item may work superbly for anyone looking for a cheap and awesome "grinder" - it's a "basher."

again - the key is drying out the bud before bashing or grinding...
basically i got the same fine consistency with these mofos that i achieved with a pair of manicuring snippy scissors, but probably a bit finer..

I've seen a few posts about drying your buds so I thought I'd toss in my nickle. I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but I use the expelled heat from my laptop to get my buds dusty dry. I have done a quarter OZ this way and it works well.
Toss your goodies in a non zip lock baggie and face the open end right in front of the heat blowing out of your laptop fan so it blows into the baggie. My fan is on the side so it's easy to do. I normally leave about 2 or 3 inches between the fan grates and the open baggie so the laptop can still exhaust the heat out. If you put the baggie too close you may not allow for your laptop to cool properly. Fresh, moist nugs are left there under the fan heat overnight while obviously leaving your lap top running, and in the morning they are are dry enough to grind easily.
I find that if I do a little porn surfing before bed, that helps crank up the fan speed and heat, as well as helping me sleep better.

I put mine in a container on top of my cable box for a day or so. If I forget they really get baked. Luckily I only put a little at a time.

Space Case has a mouthful of teeth too. I've owned both of these as well as others with a lot fewer teeth. I've found that the number of teeth makes no discernable difference in getting a fine grind, and just makes loading the grinder difficult. You're forced to crush the buds before you can grind. Personally, the large number of teeth in the Mendo and SC models are what I like the least about those brands.stinkmeaner said:

Right, this is something that I've considered, regarding the kief. I think there's a better payoff with the mortar and pestle "system" (bashing) because nothing is lost in the screen, etc.
I've never used a Space Case - that may be the perfect grinder, I just don't know.
For the moment I'm just digging the aesthetics and utility of the mortar and pestle - I think if you want a really great cheap "grinder" this is the best $15 you can spend.

Keep a clean screen and it's not really a big deal. You'll always lose a little in the teeth, even with a clean grinder. No way around that. IMO the whole kief screening thing is all about wanting to have kief available to top off a bowl of some mediocre herb, or even vape the kief by itself. It gives you the option of adding/vaping the kief when and where you want. If you're just going to separate it and add it back to every bowl, there's no point in screening in the first place, IMO.
In my experience, it's the perfect grinder to look at and caress. It's perfectly machined. In actual use, I can grind some herb in a $100 SC and some of the same in a $20 Chromium Crusher and you wouldn't know which was which.

I have a Chromium Crusher and for the money it's great. Forgetting about kief collection and loss of material in a grinder's teeth and screen for the moment, consider for the moment only consistency.
Last night I had a friend over. On my coffee table sat two vaporizers: the PD and the VB. In the center was a wooden bowl with finely bashed material from my mortar and pestle "system."
Rachelle, my friend, aside from turning me onto Portishead last night, used the VB and I used the PD. She wasn't interested in trying the PD - that's fine.
But I digress. Because the material was finely ground, more finely ground than we would experience with our Chromium Crushers, it held in place in the VB whip and there was no need to turn the unit on its side or even to raise it up from the back with a book. She got great hits consistently and many of them. From my end, the material filled into the PD tube perfectly, held in place, was the perfect consistency for smooth and reliable hits.
Interesting what you say, that at the end of the day you can't distinguish between the ground herb from a CC and a SC....

With help from all the info I've poured thru here on FC, (thanks all) I've decided to go with a CC as well. I can't believe how much research I've put into this. I've had 4 grinders over the years, all 2pcs. I had a metal sweat leaf and 3 no names. I liked the SL the best and it suited my needs at the time. Right now I am using a novelty 3 pcs but it's time for an upgrade. I am most interested in a kief catcher grinder. Like other's have said the CC's are cheap on ebay, so I'm going to give a 4 pcs 2.5" metal CC a shot. I like weight, and I won't be talking it out of the house anyway. I considered the mendo's and I still might get one too just to satisfy my curiousity. I'm sure the SC grinders are top notch from what I've read, but I cant justify the cost.

I got a five piece silver one off ebay but I stopped using it. I went back to hand mulching them with a sharp plane blade to get a smaller size than I was getting from the grinder. I like that mortar and pestal idea. I want a near powder form for my home made light bulb style vaporizer
well, i ordered a space case medium 4 pc today, with a pollen press to boot... i have a older 2.5in 2 pc space case i have had for years, and had no idea how expensive the 4 pc ones were.. dang... but i went ahead anyways.. any comments on it? will i like it? i bought a 2" 'titanium crusher' from a local shop and i hate it.. and i always liked the old space case i have.. i hope i like it.

I just ordered a small two piece Space Case to replace my medium. There just doesn't seem to be a need for a huge buster anymore, though in groups it's very useful. I was going to buy the four piece, but the price was too much and really, the four pieces don't really bust the herb as finely. The crystal won't go anywhere, so why not just put it in your bowl? If you use a whip vape, it'll at least be in the wand if not vaped.
