My Haze v3 update: This is too lengthy so I'll bottom line it: I like it a lot!
Details if you have the time and interest:
First, all my usage is with cans/silicone lids with shatter and wax - mostly shatter.
Silicone lid preservation? I dunno, but it works for me:
I've been cleaning my silicone lids in a small jar with water and Dawn. Leave them soak with an occasional shake. Similar small jar with EC190 for the cans. The EC190 jar from the cans makes reclaim I use with 13 drops mixed in water. That keeps me asleep after the shatter puts me out and/or seems to extend the high. Anyway, I've not had ANY silicone lids go bad with this cleaning method yet. But then again, I'm probably a pretty light user and my 2.5 may not have been getting as hot as it should have.
My v2.5 is super clean and on the way back to Haze. As I segue to timing, I should mention that my v2.5 was slower than others report so that is known:
Digitally timed to useful - comparo between my old 2.5 and new v3:
v2.5
With the v2.5, I actually had to buy an egg timer and run it 3 to 4 minutes (usually 4) on setting 4 long past solid lights to get significant output. Being a lightweight, a sesh for me was 2 to 3 six to 10 second rips through a PNWB bubbler. I'd get 3 to 5 such sessions out of shatter; 2 to 3 with wax. Setting 3 would work well with wax whereas 4 could be choking for me with wax.
v3.0
With the v3.0, I started out with charged and trusted Haze XL battery as I'd noted faster/bigger performance with the XL's with my 2.5. As others said early in the thread, variations in batteries can make a big difference. I sure agree.
On freshly charged XL, it took 53 seconds for the v3 for 2 lights to come on solid. With shatter, that gave some high and flavor but not the hammer I've come to know and love. 3 is better for shatter just as Scott said. On 3 setting last night being the 2nd sesh on the same charge on the same XL batt, it took 1 minute 25 seconds for 3 to come on solid and puts out good medium Haze clouds.
A major difference from my odd v2.5 to the v3 is that when the lights come on solid, it is ready to go. And I have to be careful because subsequent rips in the same sesh do not dimish as they did greatly with my specific 2.5.
The pro's to me are very significant. I also like the new battery door latch a lot. It is more secure and for me takes less hand strength to get it fully/truly latched shut. Opens about right, too.
Possible cons - not sure yet; input from
@scottg402 would be appreciated on these:
With no cans in the ovens, the oven door latches securely only on the lower hook. That's fine with me since it is securely closed and much easier to open. However, with a can in the oven, it takes quite a bit more force to get it to latch shut. I don't hear a click but it is latched securely. Problem or not?
edit: Scott, please disregard the last paragraph above. This is no longer a con. I happened to think I should recheck this after some heat cycles. Good thing I did. I just went and checked and the first 2 sessions of heat have apparently allowed some things to settle. The oven door now opens and closes with appropriate effort both directions and makes 2 clicks for both hooks. One click is louder/sharper than the other and that's just fine with me.
Next, I know there are variations in batteries and units. I saw a video of a 3.0 a few pages back where a can of concentrate took 38 seconds (as I measured it) to get up to 2 lights solid. My q on this is: Are the times I listed (53 seconds for 2 light solid; 1 minute 25 seconds for 3 lights solid - both with the same can of 'trates on 2 nights) within acceptable variation?
Elbow:
Long time readers may recall that I took an oxy/acetylene torch rig and bent a SS mp into an elbow for the 2.5 so I could easily use it with a SonG (I continue to highly recommend the Nu-SonG) and PNWT without spilling 'trates OR bongwater. That has worked out beautifully well. I hope to bend an elbow for the v3 this weekend for the same purpose. One negative: An elbow obviously won't fit inside the Haze unit. The usual quid-pro-quo as in life in general.
I find the 'trates considerably more irritating without the bubbler. That is expected. Mainly, though: Last night with 3 lights just on solid, 3 six second rips of my old standby mk ultra shatter had me
in the ozone. Higher than I usually target
but still in the very fun zone.
As the premo stone wound down, I slept great. What a precious gift solid sleep is!
I'll time it with my other 3 batteries and report if times differ significantly.
Conclusion:
The v3 is a huge improvement over my 2.5! I'm a hotrodder from way back so in attempts to stay grounded, I try never to say I 'love' a machine. So I'll hold it to this: I'm in lust with my Haze v3!
It's like a hotrodded 2.5.
Serious thanks to Scott and to Haze!
