Discontinued Ghost MV1

I am interested in buying an MV1. Noise is my concern. I am reading that the unit emits a noise , but I don't understand what it is like and how loud it is and when it occurs in the hat cycle. I use a vape only at bedtime, when in bed, and I don't want any noise that would disturb my wife. It is likely between this vape and the Firefly 2. Thoughts, comments?

The noise has been reduced by a firmware upgrade, and I'm told there's even further noise reductions coming.

Several people cannot even hear it, or their device doesn't make the noise

I wouldn't worry too much about it if the noise is your only concern. It's subtle.

I wouldn't use a fine grind in the ghost, nor in my vapcap. And I'm also not fond of nugs in (e)ither, e(i)ther, :D

I have to hide my material in a rather warm place. With the winter heating, it has gotten quite dry and I'm ending up with a pretty fine grind. Works "fine." :brow:

Is that really a pale ale? Certainly looks like a NE IPA.

How about boveda packs?

I have some somewhere but I haven't bothered because, to be fair, the fine grind has been as good as anything else. Honestly, I haven't found a grind (or non-grind) that the MV1 can't tolerate.

For me I even think it’s easier with a fine grind that’s tamped down. I sometimes have trouble regulating my draw technique with so little draw resistance. Tamping it down and more or less ripping has worked well for me.

I use my mv1 at night as well. My wife passes out every night next to me in the couch and doesn't hear shit.

It's not that laud.

Hey Troy......eeeeeeeeee!!!!!

I've gotta disagree here, I've got pretty sensitive ears and for me the noise is loud and quite noticeable and it occurs the entire time from when you press the button until it's released.

For example I remember discussing using the MV1 in a movie theatre and for myself that would be completely out of the question as the noise is far too loud for that application.

In comparison my Mighty also makes a noise while heating and sometimes while drawing but it is much less noticeable than the MV1. The IQ makes a clicking noise while heating that's also less noticeable; and the Firefly 2 heater noise might be the quietest out of all those mentioned.

The MV1 is definitely the loudest to me.

I think the noise did get better when I updated the firmware the whole vape got better in fact, but the noise is still annoying for me. I just wish it was quiet enough to ignore but for me It's loud enough and high pitched enough that I can't ignore it.

I wouldn't risk waking up an angry wife if I were you!

I’ve used it in bed next to my wife 100s of times... coughing from the masssive rips are much more of a concern for me (and her) as she usually thinks I’m choking... even still after more years than I feel like detailing... the buzz tho? Has yet to disturb her... and believe me, she’d tell me...

I have exacytly the same issue, every one get scared and think something is wrong, so i can't really get around the coughing aspect.
Before the update the noise was noticable, now after the update its virtually none existant.

Tell the truth, I also haven't found my MV-1 to be as sensitive to grind as some others have found. I use a NV fine grinder for all of my flower and the vape eats it just fine, IMO.

Now, fine doesn't mean powder and I know about grinding very dry flower in very dry winter humidity levels. In my state of Maryland, our MMJ dispesaries just opened two months ago and some of the initial shipments from growers, trying to get product out as fast as possible in this much delayed program, was dry as dirt.

If I tried to grind it, it went right to dust no matter what grinder I use. So, now I pop the flower into a mason jar with a 62% Boveda and give it a week or two, then grind. Much better.

Cheers

i also have tried with diff consistencies, i have found the Magic FLight finishing grinders grind the material just too fine and this drops out of the crucible and in to the heater.
I bought a masterdam grinder which is just perfect :)

Only issue i have, my material doesnt go a full brown and looks as if its unvaped. levels 1-2.
Will try a higher temp tonight to finish the crucible off :)

For me, the buzz is a bit annoying but it isn't loud. What I find much too loud is the vibration. It would be nice if the app were updated to allow you to modify the intensity.

I'm with you, brother...one advantage of being half deaf...that and getting away with ignoring your relatives as they harangue you during holiday meals. Yep, just stare off into that middle distance long enough and they get the hint! LOL

Truly, while my hearing is impaired I can hear but don't hear any noise from my MV-1's power circuit.

I find it’s much more noticeable right after a fresh charge but after a crucible or 2 it quiets way down... which I assume is probably somewhat consistent with the known overall output power drop... but you crank it up and it still outputs fine for a while... just the preheat whine isn’t as loud.

IE: People that do constant battery top-offs probably notice it more... cuz it is more noticeable.

Except for the audio vibration signals, I don't hear anything, no whining. It's possible some people may have units that are reacting this way. Hey, with the all over the board experiences with this vape, anything's possible. I think anyone have this noise issue that's bothering them, they should pm ghostvapes on the VLF & ask for a video chat with ghostdgitalops or rikcheese or ghostops to let them hear the problem 1st-hand. Hear what they have to say in response & if not acceptable to you, ask for a warranty replacement.

OK, as I'm really busy for the next few days, here's a short update -- I'm just pasting what I replied to Dave/ghostdigitalops asking me how my replacement was going after our skype call early last week.

I received the replacement on Tues/Wed. Being that I'm busy, I only packed 2 crucibles, to-date. And yes, I have vapor finally!!! This unit shipped with the new all-in-one mp assembly. I wonder if there is gonna be internal build up due to inaccessibility. What I can say, is the gunk on the crucible screen was lessened compared to my old unit. After 6 hits, I would say pretty negligible. The stem glides super smooth; seems like there's a gasket improvement. The stem's opening is larger than my previous 2 which I like, & the stem's lip ridge is evenly done & looks polished/professional. The lip ridge on my old 2 looks like it's dhgate glass quality in comparison.

I'm paying attention to moisture, grind, packing, stem height, but these didn't seem to be an issue. I used level 3 for the 1st 4 draws on both crucibles & then bumped it up to level 5 on the 5th & 6th hit of the 1st crucible. I should have not taken that 6th hit - Yuck! & I had tunneling (no stirring). For the 2nd crucible I took the 5th draw on level 4. From the taste I knew to call it a done crucible. ;) No stirring, perfectly even abv.

And as far as overheating is concerned, I got through both crucibles without overheating. Previously, I'd overheat on the 5th or 6th draw. *Just to let you know a vape session for me is 5 or 6 hits.

Starting with a full battery, it went from 3 to 2 lights after the 2 crucibles on the levels you see I was using. So I assume I'll get another 2 until it's 1 light & maybe another 1 or 2 until flashing. We'll see. Not great battery life, but I finally got vapor!!!

The only prob. I have is that battery that came with it is nigh impossible to remove. It gets stuck in the vape when fully inserted. Why? Don't know. I've played with it a lot & I don't think it will loosen up over time. The latch was impossible to open & still is difficult. Had to resort to using my fingernail to slide it open initially. Now with a lot of downward force I can usually open it. If my fingertips have had enough I resort back my nail. Based on history, I am certain that this will loosen up in time.

So, these are just my initial impressions & experiences. I'll know more beginning with the weekend.

I'd like to see about using the app to adjust the temps so I may request another skype call with Dave in the next week or so as I don't want to screw up the vapes internal software/programming by pressing the buttons inappropriately. Once I visually run through it with him, I'll be prepared for when the next firmware update comes.

I will let you know more as I use it more.

Have a good weekend!

All in one mouthpiece? What do you mean inaccessibility? Does the stem not come out of the device?

The gasket should still come out. It’s a thicker gasket or should be right? I can post pics of the one I have on vl but I can’t do it easily on this on iOS. The one I have has the new smooth stem that is like a surgical glass material, the gasket which is ribbed and thicker, tube which is thicker, has more weight to it and the heatsink which is the same.

No, all the parts look & function exactly the same, but do not separate, so, yes, the stem pulls out. The top plastic lid is no longer removable from the whole assembly. The gasket opening that surrounds the stem seems to allow the stem to slide in/out with no resistance.

Glad to hear you got your replacement unit and finally got vapor! @Summer

The second battery I got from ghost was also very difficult to remove, I thought for a while that I was not going to me able to remove it. I finally was able to doing basically the same thing you did.

It has gotten much more easier to put in and out now.

OK, take a breath everyone, well, I guess, me! lol! Got a reply post from ghostops. Apparently, what I received was not the final mp assembly only an interim fix. So, don't know if this one comes apart or not as the plastic top piece seems to be sealed tightly to the heatsink without the black gasket bulging out. So when I find out if it is separable, I will post.
