Discontinued Ghost MV1

you don't have to kiss the vape, pray to your higher power, allign the planets and make sure the heatsink is properly assembled in order to get vapor.

In my experience.....with admittedly only one unit....this is all a bit of exaggeration.

Now, I'm the first to throw the BS flag when a crappy vape is defended with the "oh, its a connoisseur device" or "it has a learning curve", and "you just need to master the technique". I was one of the ones objecting strenuously to this narrative with the FF2.

I was completely prepared to go the same way with the MV-1 if it proved similar. To me, vapes are household appliances and owners should have the expectation that they just work...like your coffee pot.

But I was extremely and pleasantly surprised. I don't grind or dry different for this vape. I don't have and specific draw technique except what just felt natural to me with this device. And I get great visible vapor and am VERY happy with the degree of extraction I can get out of .1 g.

For me, this thing has been simple to operate with the notable exceptions of the lid and the one button controls....which have been talked about ad nuseum.

It is a fact that they shipped units out that are malfunctioning. Ghost says that they found the root cause, it will be fixed in a firmware update to come out with the app shortly, and I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt at this point and wait and see what the final baseline performance really is.

But the proof will be actual performance once upgraded and I will have just as critical eye on the results as I would with any other vape.

Lastly, I feel for those folks who are getting bad smells, etc out of their vape. That also has not been my experience but as said above, we all have very different senses and sensitivities and I certainly believe those who have found some objectionable smells. But looking at the body of owner posts overall, I don't think people are finding it to be a common issue.

Cheers

I'm on board! This vape is GREAT. The battery firmware fix will make this even better. I for one prefer the ghost over Milaana. The battery life is alright now ...better then I got with a fresh cell. And tastes as great:freak:

I don't have to sit and fiddle with a button.... It's regulated.(granted to change temps there is a button I fiddle.) Hold a button down wait for the bzzzzzt and rip it or sip it. I hope with the app I'll be able to customize not only the temp but also the journey.. not having to click the button to run through the diff temps will make this vape amazing.

*** Also I gotta mention Patrick over at ghost. Always quick to respond .. out convos are over message over on vlf... But none the less he has been extremely accommodating. I was over nighted the vape to begin with. My order was held up because of an error I made with my billing address and after it came to Patrick attention he worked with me to resolve the issue. OVERNIGHT.. that's sick. Also has kept in touch about the app and when the new accessories become available. I'm no one special. Just a guy who wanted to buy a product. Yeah I saw it at a concert watching a band I love but it still preforms great and its a perfect portable for my use ....:tup::luv:

Thanks Patrick you rock, the ghost rocks and this community rocks great way to spend my bday:razz:

Another tip for everyone that I'm not sure has been discussed... No need to disengage the battery button to remove from the quick charger.. just hold the sliver strip of the base and slide up on the GH on the battery! I kept messing with it but it's not necessary since it doesn't latch on to the quick charger!!! What a GOOF!

That is all for now
Gotta ghost :whoa:

just thought id let everyone know about mu mv1 experience. So far, concentrates are pretty good in it. Not as good as say an enail but so far, better than any concentrate herbal device ive seen.

the herb hasnt been that great. So far a lot of wisp so i too it to red one, but thats when you start getting charred mats so i went back to the green. im able to get ok clouds now after refining technique. Nothi g huge yet.

the device has overheated twice. Once on concentrate setting and once on herb. Hope that gets fixed but in the meantime, when my draw is done, ill speed up the last part of it to bring in a little new air and cool the unit off a little. Seems to work so far.

all in all, i would have honestly ratger of had a adjustable temp on a simple led screen. When all is said and done, im still not sure why they chose to make it customizeable in and app only and not on the device other than presets.

battery life is ok. It last longer than my other portables so i cant complain much. I know its getting worked on. The fast charger helps a lot.

i think this thing will be a solid beast once its finished. Right now its a beast sometimes because of the current fixable flaws. Ill reserve final judgement for when the firmware and stuff is taken care of.

Edit: I've put a few more bowls through it. I can't seem to get an evenly cooked end product. Still trying different packing procedures I guess. I think the temp needs a bit of adjusting which of course will be done when the app comes out. I'm betting that the adjustable temp will make this come alive for everyone and have a lot less required draw technique.

I'm not a huge fan of the crucible. Almost lost a lid already. I've found that if I do a quick sesh of concentrate first, it makes the lid sticky so thats what I do. wish they had a lip to catch on or something. Different depth ceramic crucibles for those of us that like to go big would be awesome. Im not sure if thats possible for this device but for the future mv2 maybe.

Edit: I've started packing it tighter and Ive found its helping get better vapor for sure. Can't wait for the app!

I know a lot has been said about how to pack the crucible. But folks aren’t kidding... the slightest bit of pushing down or packing really changes the airflow. These last two I didn’t touch at all except to sprinkle in material and flow was much improved and burn was far more even. No light and dark spots. Probably slightly lighter golden color than I expected but there was probably another draw or two. Got nice visible cloud too. All on Amber 3. Flavor and coolness of vapor is unbelievable. I feel like each session is getting me closer to each nuance and optimization. I wouldn’t call it difficult, but maybe finicky

I have only ever dropped the material in with no tamping. Pretty even for me.

So my journey so far with this vape began when I received it on Wed, put it on slow charge for 8 hours. Thursday, burn-off. As I thought the silicone was most likely causing the outgassing (smoke/smell), I removed the top silicone piece. The small, bottom silicone piece not removable. For 6 cycles, I got the same smoking (& strong, stinky odor) as @Gibarian. (I knew it was the silicone outgassing because I sniffed the removed piece & it smelled the same.) Put a couple of drops of dawn detergent in lukewarm water & swished & massaged the removed piece to see if that would prevent any smoking when reinserted. Well, it may have as there was no smoke only the strong smell once again. Burned off for another 6 cycles until smell softened. Then I gave up. :D

Strictly concerning the functioning, I will say that battery life is poor, just only about 30 cycles before needing a recharge, am experiencing periodic overheating, & am having inconsistent heating sessions. First 6 bowls went well. [The 1st 2 hits on level 3 are very good (cloud & flavor), next 2, wispier.] Then these last 2 bowls no vapor, only flavor -- same herb, the heatsink was pressed solidly in & the battery had just been fully charged. ??? This last bowl (lesser quality herb) produced clouds, but not as nice as bowls 1 - 6.

Nothing about this vape bothers me (providing the firmware fixes the issues), except for, 'WHAT where they thinking by not using a digital display.' This totally bums me out! They could have put the display w/ batt life & temp or mode in the center vertically & left the on/off button where it is & put up/down buttons on each side of the wings; rubber not plastic buttons to-boot. This is the one feature I'm accessing right now to see if I can live with it for 5 long years.

Employed VapeScape U.K. vid. Part 2 for foundation of loading & initial technique advice. If you haven't watched Part 2 & 3 you're missing out on proven techniques to use as a foundation for learning to use the vape -- a starting point, before you develop your personal ghost vape style. Here's the LINK again to the vids, if interested.

The one prob I'm having that I haven't seen mentioned is that the on button is acting flaky. Mostly when I go to turn it on, I have to keep pressing the button till it responds. Sometimes, went it won't, I remove/reinsert battery to reinitialize to get the button working; it then does work, but can't say there's a correlation.

So, I'm gonna wait until the app comes out to make my decision as to keeping. And I'm gonna contact ghostvapes to ask about the button issue. May very well not have anything to do w/ corrupt firmware; may actually be defective hardware.
(*BWT, I'm advising @VCBud to put me on the list for extending my return option until after the app drops.)

I'm gonna post my thoughts about the effects I experience w/ ghost soon. Lastly, I want to mention that (me) needing to understand how the mode sequencing worked 'cause the ghost quick start directions didn't cut it for me, I re-watched Bud's Ghost Part 1 review & I gotta tell you people, for me, & as I see for others posting, his review was "spot-on." If you got the vape & are satisfied with it, I recommend you watch it again with fresh eyes now that we're past the marketing probs. Link And if you like any of the 3 vids I linked to, do comment here as I'd like to know if others feel as I do. :)

Have a great Sunday everyone!

Ive gotta say that if you happen to have some shatter laying around, put the tiniest bit on one side of the lid. As long as you dont forget to take the lid off when you're done so it doesnt get stuck, it works amazingly well to keep the lid on so you can just dump the entire crucible out without having to worry about losing the lid.

Also Ive been experimenting with packing the crucible all night and I've found that even my loosest pack may not have been loose enough so I packed it half way then used that thing to stir it and break it up so that its fluffy and I put it on amber 2 like in Buds vid and son of a bitch I got a couple good clouds. It's gettin better the longer I mess with it.

Can't wait for the app as well but even just a nice large LED screen with just the temperature and batt life would have went such a long way honestly.
While I do agree, of course, and really wasn’t trying to sound like a Luddite, but at what point do you draw the line to (yeah, try to make the most money, sure, but also) please the most people? $600? 500? Or $300? I mean shit, a smart phone on the back would be awesome too, with a good camera and a razor ( ;) ) and and and why stop there...?

Honestly the things a vape should have is the ability to control the temperature in 1 degree increments and the best way to do that would be with a simple led screen. I hear you on the money part but I would gladly throw in 25 more bucks for that feature. 325 is still not unheard of in ways of high quality portable vapes which is what this is. Even without the led screen, it's a damn good vape. Some of the choices made in making it are strange but hopefully the options we want will be in the mv2 years down the road.

haha, what do you mean by that?
ABV looks quite the same with the EVO being more even.

It could be the camera and blur, but both the mv1 and evo abv look quite uneven IMO.

Now let's not get ridiculous :brow: Although a camera and a razor sound awesome, it's the 21st century and for a $300 device, a digital screen should be standard IMO.

A mistake, @lookhigh ? Maybe. But again, for me anyway, being 50 and with my eyes going faster than a__?__ in a__?__. I’m kinda glad I don’t always need to have them on or near everytime I have to medicate. We’re supposed to have that functionality soon... right? Someday? (I’m thinking before mid oct... ugh)

Just realised Ghost sent me a email, it was in my junk folder but luckily i can still purchase, only thing is im in the UK, alltogether its going to cost me $325 to get it over here, plus i may be charged around $30 more once for the customs charge :ugh: if anybody from the UK on here who has ordered can tell me how much it cost them in all (on here or PM) it would be helpful, but i may have to wait for a UK supplier to get a few in stock as this may be a bit too high on the cost :(

So, in addition to my previous criticisms of the battery pack...: How about at least have a multi colored LED battery level indicator directly on the battery pack? Something cheap. In fact, try to incorporate a lot stuff that could fail with regular use on the battery pack? Remember, all you gotta do is replace the pack for fresh controls.

I’ve heard lots of great ideas for MV2... but let’s just get thru 1 first. Remember, if all us “suckers” didn’t “buy (literally and figuratively) into the hype” , there would probably never be an MV2, if there ever even is... However, I like to think of us more as “pay to play” pioneers... :D

Edit: instead of beta testers... which we most certainly are...

Beta testers no doubt...at least we got a fast charger I guess.

One of my biggest complaints is the mouth piece. I have constant grinding and it doesn’t latch well when I extend it. Furthermore it’s impossible to pull out without holding the heat sink in place with my other hand. The fact this needs to be a 2 handed operation is ridiculous
