God help you if you have an incurable disease. It's always, "let's TRY this."
There has to be a point when the RX drugs side effects do not outweigh the damage from the disease, and only cause more harm then good. What is that point, and who gets to decide? If the patient decides to stop taking their medication, why are they labeled, "patient non-compliant?" These are all rhetorical questions that go through my mind. If one RX drug doesn't work, why am I forced to keep trying new ones that give me horrible side effects?
I am now seeing a new doctor because my old GP closed her practice. The new doctor refuses to give me any pain medication, but has no problem with antidepressants and benzos. It is her opinion that if I treat my Rheumatoid Disease more aggressively, I will have less pain. So far, it's been a month and a half on these new drugs. I have lost 9 pounds and am now down to 108 pounds. I have absolutely NO appetite whatsoever, and have to force myself to eat anything. My hair is falling out, the nausea is constant, and I won't even get into the constant diarrhea. I'm taking so many pills, I have to keep track of morning, noon, afternoon, and bedtime doses.
I got a Microsoft Band for an early birthday present, and it's showing me just how sick I really am. Burning more calories than I can take in. Getting 1-2 good hours of decent sleep a night. I mean, I knew I slept for crap, but didn't know how bad until the Band started recording the patterns. Yes, I am documenting all this, and will be sharing with my new GP.
I am so glad that I am pretty much recovered from all my surgeries this year, but that is the only reason the doctor's held back on the RA drugs. I knew this day was coming, but wasn't prepared for how bad it really is.
