Hard to say. He was part of the counter-culture, so it was probably hard not to cross paths, and whatnot with the various nut jobs around...but his daughter and her husband are creepy.

It's just a thing I have about groups of people vs. individuals. Imo most achievements of note are brought into this world from an individual thinking outside the group-think/consensus box. And most atrocities are brought to us by organized groups. Groups of people always get brought down by egos and ambitions, just look at any organized religion. There's a lot more to it but that's a good start.

Oh yeah the saying about the guy being ridiculed, then attacked, then lauded for thinking differently.

I think an individual can step into a void with new ideas and create a following which can be even more destructive than a previously organized group. Like Hitler and his small clique with their radical ideas. But I agree that individuals can bring many good positive new ideas as well.
