I micro dose thru out the day and was curious. I would hate to drain the batteries in the middle of the day and have to wait for them to charge. That is the reason I got an extra set. If you charge thru the FD overnight do you have a full charge in the morning ???

Those will be great. I use 30Q’s only because I have 6 but think 35E’s might last the longest and will probably pick a few up when I’m in the mood.

I picked up a set of the Samsung 35E's a few weeks ago to evaluate and have been very happy with them. They last a long time, and are available at a very good price:

https://www.illumn.com/18650-samsung-inr18650-35e-3500mah-high-discharge-flat-top.html

FWIW, I have four sets of batteries I use in the shop, in random rotation:

Sony VTC4 (2100 mAh)
Vapcell 2800mAh (rebranded Sony US18650VTC5D High Discharge Flat Top; 2800 mAh)
Sony VTC6 (3000 mAh)
Samsung 35R (3500 mAh)

I found the high discharge VTC5D Vapcells can be too much for some 14mm coils and lead to charring of the load. The 14mm coil doesn't need any help getting hot in a hurry, and the VTC5D's high discharge cells can unleash a lot of current very quickly, especially when freshly charged. I find with this combo I sometimes need to pull at the first click.

The 35Es have a less aggressive discharge rate than the VTC5Ds, and for our purposes I think this helps.

I am not an expert on these and my sample size is small, but the above is what I have found so far.

I have found that with my usage. I can last about 2 days before needing to charge. I usually charge it a bit at night anyways.

I usually do 2 caps in the morning before work. 2 caps at lunch in my car, and then 8 or so over the course of the night.

That being said, after an entire day of that, no lights of the battery tester go out. On the second day of that it will drop a light, but that’s all. I use the included cable to charge it since taking all the batteries out and putting them on my charger is a pain in the ass. There hasn't been an issue from me by using that charger, the indicator lights change with usage and it goes back up to 100% when the light turns green on the charger. So I'm not worried about anything in that regard.

So I would say that with a 14mm coil, I'm getting better than expected results, or I use it less than most. (Though I don't know if that is true or not...)
Are you my doppleganger?
This is exactly my usage. Although times a changing with a SB Jr. on its way. :brow:

I have the LG hg2s as well. Are they considered high discharge at 20a?

Received my 15mm swapped FD and testing now definitely more forgiving, as 14mm was crushingly hot, 15mm I am still pulling on 1st click but working well, no charring.

Now I'm wondering if the big difference is the 20a battery? As my experience seems so different from others. And if @jill_nyc has 16mm and same battery how long does it take to click?
15mm with cold cap and pot at minimum 6 to 7 secs to click and 2nd click comes after I pull it from carryover and it's perfect. If warm 4 to 5 secs

I really know very little about batteries in general and think I got these due to an earlier post recommendation. Maybe batteries can make a bigger difference than I thought.

So far glad I changed the 14mm for the 15mm (it's only been a day) but don't want to be putting people off the 14mm if my batteries are the issue.

Glad to have it back in my hands !

The FD is going to be a game changer. Mine has a 14mm with a top side control. For those of you that have there FD how is the battery life ? I have an extra set for back up. Mine should be here tomorrow. Can’t wait to do a review... #45 :leaf:

14mm coil, LG HG2 batteries (2 sets), two of us using our FD. When we first got it we ran the batteries until they died, about a day and a half. Now I change them daily. I always charge them with my Nitecore charger, I've never used the included charging cord nor the battery checker. mr_c said the LED doesn't use much power so we usually leave it turned on when we're around and using it. We've only used it around home so far. No complaints.

Thanks for the excuse to do a little scientific experimentation!

I think everyone times a little differently (better/worse reaction times to start/stop), and every cap has its own personality so...YMMV.

I indeed have the 16 mm coil.
I tested with two caps - one is a Shadow and the other is a plain ol’ regular cap. I tested several times and am giving you an average, but the numbers were pretty consistent by cap.

Regular Cap: From cold - a little under 6 seconds; From warm - 4 1/2 seconds
Shadow Cap: From cold - a little under 5 seconds; From warm - 3.3 seconds

While I was sacrificing myself for the sake of Science, I can give you a few other findings about battery life with the LG HG2’s:
I started with a mostly full battery charge (full battery gauge).
After approximately 32 heats ups (about a third from cold) the battery gauge has just lost one light.

I am using the Sony VTC6 batteries from illumn for reference. They were my go to batteries back in the day of ecig mods, though the big thing on the market at the time was the vtc5s that had just come out.

Regardless, this was a new set of 3 batteries since I wanted them to all charge together and "marry" so to speak. I have no issues with it any way since then and I think it gives just the right amount of power to the 14mm coil the way I would expect it to.

I did the same thing when I realized there was another option in the world other than fiddly lighters that always ran out right when I needed them most. That was what made the waiting hard. Was I wanted to get rid of my lighters so so so so badly.

Hi all - some updates!

New mini-batch in progress!
As some of you know, earlier today I sent pre-build, "confirm your options" emails for the next 25 or so heaters. If you did not get an email yet, don't lose hope, as I'll be sending out more as some people pass or don't respond.

I am calling these "mini-batches" because I've pre-assembled ~70 battery packs. The battery packs take a lot of time to make, so it's nice to have that many ready to go. One less thing to build out, at least in the short term.

New case options on the horizon:
A shoutout to @Dubmonkey for this one!

I am happy to announce that the Flux Deluxe will soon be available in at least one new case option: cherry, courtesy of Berskshire Box Mods (their website is currently down but their Facebook is up). I may offer more options from them in the future, but their cherry 1590B case will be the first.

Dubmonkey was politely insistent that I check out one of their cases and see if it would work as a housing for the Deluxe. I did, it did, and you can see it below.

I am happy to report that this worked out so well that I expect to be offering this as an option going forward. I believe these will be a $20-$30 add-on option, but the final price is still to be determined. I should know more within a week.

There will also be an option for adding custom laser etched art, as long as the art doesn't violate any intellectual property rights. I have been told that custom art pricing will start at an additional $35 per case, but that price has not been finalized. I have a few examples with Fluxer logos coming, so there will be more to come.

Here are some images of the Flux Deluxe in (unfinished) cherry. Finish options and costs still to be determined.

I think the color is more accurately reproduced in this image.

Shown alongside a standard FD. I don't have the external measurements at hand, but the cherry case is a bit longer and wider than the standard case. The two cases are the same height, however, and the new one fits in the same storage bag at the standard FD.

Let me know what you think. :brow:

Cheers!

Nice! Will we be able to buy just a case and swap everything over if we already have one(or two :D) ?

I am happy to offer case swaps once these get here. There is some amount of custom fitment needed for each heater - the heater hole, for example, is individually located on each heater. And the DC power jack is custom aligned on each heater, so that its access hole is centered or very close. And I need to add a shim to the rear of the battery sled to make it fit well, but otherwise the internals are the same. I was surprised by how well the internals fit into these cases. Believe me, I was not going to do this is if required a lot of additional work on my end, as there's enough of that as it is.

I'm hopeful these will be as easy to add to the lineup as they appear to be. I'll know more once I have the first 10 of these on hand. I don't know when that will be yet, but I've paid for them so they should be here within a few weeks.

Don't do that brother! One day your batteries will die. You'll forget the extra set. You'll leave and forget your FD. FD will malfunction. Or you could do what I did with my Psm last night and accidentally heat your VC without the cap and melt some internals! I was BLESSED to have a torch on me for some random reason!! I don't use the torch often, but i keep backups for my backups in my car!

@mr_cfromcali options! Can't ever go wrong with options!! Unless they don't sell of course! But thank you. You have me somewhere in cue, but I'm joyful to wait. I think I'd like to wait for the point where you drop the mic n you're like BOOM! FD. I have nothing more to add.

Holy cannoli, MrC!!! Should we just set up a direct deposit to your account? I think that will be easier moving forward lol

Any chatter of other wood species?

Thanks a ton man! Incredible offer to case swap existing FDs. You continue to impress.
