Incidentally, just to be clear, I'm talking about cleaning the hot air intake screen in the bottom of the oven, not the mouthpiece screen.
Next time your FM needs cleaning use a q-tip and ISO like you did. Let that soften up the gunk clogging the bottom screen and then put a wet piece of paper towel in the chamber. Screw on the MP and with your finger over the hole turn it on high. The steam gets blasted back through the screen and takes the gunk with it.

Review flowermate mini:

Hi guys! Long time lurker, first time poster! I just wanted to review this device for anyone wondering and I'm excited to do so. Sorry for poor grammar.

Okay lets get on with the review:

Initial Thought// Was shocked when i received it, the box was small. Guess they going for apple style of packaging. The quality is very nice, not cheap packaging. Foam inside to protect everything is nicely done.

As the name suggest, it is tinyyyyyyyy! The vape itself fits nicely in my palm. 3/4 height of an iPhone 5s. Width is probably triple of the iPhone. Material is a nice macbook feeling, does not feel cheap. With the mouthpiece inside the vape, it does rattle a bit but not bothered really. Probably could slip a thin cloth to stop the rattle. A glass mouthpiece is a very nice touch, glass is my most pref material.

Differences to V5.0s// If anyone owned the V5.0s, it works pretty much the same. Except the battery is halved on the mini version. The LED inside the chamber is missing, but with a smaller battery i think its a good decision to leave it out.

The USB is a godsend, i much prefer it to the supply mains. Took a road trip with this baby and carried a power bank with me, Charging this device while on the road is very handy! That feature alone makes this device worth it. Also the vape can be used as a powerbank! Can charge smartphones! The portability is great.

Performance// Works like the V5.0s.

=The lowest settings you get the most flavour, but the least high of the settings. Used it in Cinema, parks etc. Most discreet.

=Mid settings is my most pref. Very nice mix of flavour and strength.

=Highest is where i would finish it off and get proper baked!

Watch youtube videos of V5.0s, the experience is similar. So i won’t go on about that…but request if you want me to write about it.

2600mah battery inside, kept up well. i don’t expect the vape to last longer then the older brother v5.0s but i am happy with performance. The battery lasts for a day on my need which is great. I didn’t time mine, but i am a moderate smoker. usually 2-4 spliffs a day.

Conclusion:// Love it! i am a proper vape enthusiast. I have owned the mflb, pax, firefly etc. This is my go to portable vape hands down. Well done flowermate. My fav about it is the size, very discreet and my hands are small! Not much bigger than the MFLB which is surprising. USB is a nice touch, Very easy to find charge spots or just bring a power bank with you on long journeys.

I noticed a user commented that both his FM's wouldn't work because of the button not recognizing pushes (basically). I also ran into that, and thought my FM was broken.

I pushed the button extra hard 5 times and voila! Back in action!

Just wanted to let anyone in case they run in to the same issue.

Excellent tip! There's not much 'click' there to detect, it'd be easy enough to miss I'd think? Especially of the owner is frustrated. If it missed say the fourth click (but got the other 4 'right') it would see it as 3 clicks and one click and do nothing........

The type of switch used is a very reliable type, but the mechanical button that actually works it is of course a custom effort. I wonder if some debris (ABV?) might be slipping in in such cases?

Still, great tip, if your unit 'acts up' be sure the button presses are solid and well timed. That fits well with reports of 'dead' units that still charge normally (meaning the processor and battery are fine).

Thanks.

I also had this happen and also thought it was broken. What I did was to be careful to press the center of the button, rather than the side, and it started working again.

First off, heads up Friends and Neighbors, $63 'open box' Minis from our bud Randy at PIU:
http://www.puffitup.com/Flowermate-5-Mini-p/flowermate5miniopenbox.htm

'Get 'em quick, before they're all gone...'

While that works for cleaning, I ruined one FM by the "steaming" method so beware.

I'm with you there, although I've never tried it. It seems to beg the question where does the gunk go? Seems like it'd still be there, waiting patiently to get sucked back in?

In a bigger sense, the lower screen should no foul if the herb is well cured (dry) going in. That's an air INLET after all, cold air comes in that way, there should be no vapor going through that screen. Like in a car engine where the intake valves stay clean and exhaust valves fail?

Our collective experience with MFLB teaches us keeping water out of the system prevents most fouling. In 'the box' vapor is drawn through mesh welded in (you can't get under it to clean and being made of wood ISO is out), yet keeping it dry keeps the fouling in check. My original FM must have well over an ounce of top shelf dry bud run through it. The stem and upper screens have needed several cleanings. The chamber walls (which get brushed with the provided brush each time) are 'reasonably clean' still and the bottom screen gleams as it did when new without a hint of fouling.

OF

Edit: After a bit of reflection another possible source of fouling on the lower screen comes to mind, using ISO to clean the chamber? IMO that would be a bad idea since there's a chance 'dirty' ISO could contact the screen where surface tension would pull it into the holes.....where the solvent would 'boil off'...... Much like drying paint that would surely gum up the works good and proper?

For my money while ISO might be useful in the stem and upper screens (although I recommend PBW for that, finding it does a better job) it should never be used in the chamber.

I'm thinking about buying my first vaporizer and i decided to go with flowermate. Unfortunately, i can only get a regular v5.0 in my area (no v5.0s or mini). Should i still go for it? How's v5.0 compared to v5.0s?

Ten bucks 'all over town', I don't recall seeing it higher or lower in price. Shipping might be the only difference? I got mine from PIU, it comes with a new base, gasket and screens. Save the extra pieces, it's what you need to mount and use one of Ed's excellent stems (the reason I bought my 'spare') since they come as a single wood piece (replaces the glass part only).

I'd avoid the single temperature version, go with the V5.OS or Mini. I recommend the mini if you're going to travel with it. I posted a source of 'open box' minis for $63 shipped a couple of posts up.......now out of stock again already. PIU is still my recommended source, he offers FC a discount on top of 'best prices, fast free shipping and Customer Support (should you need it) second to none'.

I found cheap v5.0s on vape-studio.com. Cheapest yet i found for that model in europe if anyone is interested.

I must say the v5.0s heats quicker then the mini. If your patient that won't be a problem.

Again!....all hail Randy @ PIU...hooked me up with FM5.0s for $75.00 w free freight...wish all cust service agents everywhere were like him. Maybe I could persuade him to go pardners on a training school for empathy challenged online sales agents....I know, I know, then he wouldn't be at PIU anymore to help us feed our VAS jones. But, then again, he and I would be astronomicly rich! Oh yes....disc code: ENTSHOP...Thx again Randy!

I'm tired of delay after delay waiting for my grasshopper (dec 1st 2013 backer), so I decided to order a flowermate mini to hold me over until then. This will be my first vape and it arrives on the 17th, i'm excited :D

Love the 5.0S so far....It made my Shishkaberry's subtle flavor notes pop even at the lowest setting... Highest setting was substantially harsher...but I usually never roast my nugs at that high anyway (415*). Lowest setting is perfect for me (385*)...Excellent overall results from 1st session...easy to operate...50% load lead to me falling asleep for 6 hrs straight:zzz:...not too shabby for a hella insomniac! My good herb combined with efficeient effective portable vape = a happy camper all around...I still love my Air but at 1/2 the cost the FM5.0S gives great bang for the buck! This was to be gift to my son...guess I'll have to get another one headed my way from PIU, he's not getting this one.

I have the Flowermate 5.0s and I really like this thing, however it did not come with much of a "user manual" and a few things confuse me...

1 - I start it up with 5 clicks, and once its stuck on blue/red I take a hit every 30 seconds or so.
After a while the light goes off, but if I press the button to start the vape again it shows that it is still on - what does this mean? Should I press it 5 times to put it off completely and then put it on again?
I really don't see the point or understand this "function" :(

2 - When do you stir? After every time the light goes off or every 2 times or 3 or...?

Thanks!

(Sorry if the questions are too noobie like, but I am pretty much a noob)

After you start it up with 5 clicks it will stay on for 5 minutes before going into standby mode. To get it on again hold the button down for a few seconds and it will start blinking as it heats up. To turn it off click 5 times again. To change the temp setting hold down the button when the unit is on until the light changes color.

Stir the chamber when the vapor output slows down to open new air channels and get more vapor.

That's it, I think, 3 modes not 2. On, off, and standby. With the OPs V5.OS there's an additional clue in that the loading light stays on in standby as well as on mode. When it's dark, it's off.

However, in getting out of standby the flashing won't start until after you release the button. Push it for a second or two then release, if it goes out, push it a bit longer. If it starts flashing you're in heating again, if it goes out, you're still in standby......try again.

If you look closely at the light coming out of standby you can see it dim a tiny bit when you've held it long enough (more so when the battery is discharged), but it's hard to detect in some lighting.

If you get confused, go to pushing 5 times (turn it off) then repeat (back on). With some experience it becomes more natural. "Take it out and play with it".

first, i tried to find an answer, but was unable to get a good one, so sry if this has come up already.

i just got my Flowermate and read smtg about the machine before running it.
it seems as if many suggest putting an extra screen on top of your herbs, after plucking those down a bit.
to protect the mouthpiece and get better vapor production.

i would like to do the same and would like to get some nice ceramic/ glass/stainless screens that fit properly and are easy to clean, however i have trouble finding those in germany (or i am too dumb to find em).

any suggestions? i would be thnakful . i own the vanilla 5.0

secondly, i am a low tolerance user (had a looong break, just smoked some weed like some month before in a J). whats a proper dose for a solo run? 0.05?

regards

I'd suggest just a standard pipe screen above the load. Just the right size so it fits with a bit of friction into the bowl.

This way you can literally put a pinch and and get some nice puffs.

i hear ya, problem is that i have problems finding suitable screens.
the flowermate needs them to be like 0.7mm?
most websites dont even list the size, i assume to ensure everyone buys the suitable, expensive screens especially designed for the current vaporizer.

does it matter whether or not they are made of steel, glass or smtg else?

Definitely not .7mm, that's about the size of the wire in a paper clip..... 7mm perhaps?

Standard 3/8 inch screens seem to fit, although I don't mess with them personally. There are no doubt other vapes that have screens in this size range. Iolite for instance??

I would buy a screen that is to large and cut or fold the edges to fit. Could go to hardware store and buy some SS screens for sinks.

I'm having a great time just smushing a nuglet into the FM mini, and vaping it through two cycles on Blue.

Comes out amazingly vaped. All the way through. Dark brown. Dusty. With quite good flavor! I'm also really, really "relaxed" about cleaning (my CDO-ness has backed down a lot), and waited until, seriously, my mouthpiece was completely coated inside with reclaim. I haven't had anything at all like negatively impacted performance.

I'm pretty darned happy with it. Little slidy doors *eye roll* aside, oh, and the rattle *eeekk* too, it's a lovely little thing.

my bad, 7mm of course.

still, most websites dont even list the size, so i might be forced to manually resize the screens for my FM, which i dont wanna do if i can avoid it.
