not sure i dont own a mini, its hardly a mod, you just pop out screen from bottom and throw a new one in

Actually there's no such thing as "just pop out screen from bottom" it's wedged in 'good and tight'. You might get lucky with a needle in the Mini (not the other models, no access....), you might have to disassemble it for better access or you might wreck it. Owners have reported all 3.

But easy it's not.

My original question was more in regards to the screen in the mouthpiece. Frankly if it wasn't for all the good reviews I've seen and a solid user base I would have avoiding the FM based on their anorexic web presence and lack of information. For example the fact that they send you replacement screens with the product but don't provide information on how to change them.

I did it with my 2 Minis because I think the bottom screen sucks. All it required was a stiff needle, thin long nose pliers, and a steady hand. Looking through the bottom pointing at light you see clearly the 5 holes. Insert the point of the needle in one, rest the pliers handles on a table while still holding firmly the needle with them, press the Mini down slowly and you will see the screen slowly moving. If the needle goes through the grill, use another hole, repeat slowly, and the screen pops right up.

Clean the oven, insert a proper SS grid screen and you're done. Just be extra careful that the needle is actually smaller than the holes or you risk breaking the oven, I'd think.

The first one I modded when it fouled so much that the 5 holes in the oven were blocked. The second one I modded the second I took it out of the box. I don't know why the first one fouled so much.

The screen in the mouthpiece is more of the same, metal foil with holes in it. Discard it, and replace it with a regular screen and you're golden. If you can form the screen so that it's curved, stuff will pass through the 5 holes of the mouthpiece and is catched in this empty pocket, instead of just blocking the holes. My 1st unit had the screen laying flat in the bottom of the mouthpiece's metal part, so it took very little time for the 5 holes to be blocked, talking minutes there. Now that it's a curved screen forming an inner pocket, it's good for days. On the second unit the screen is more or less "floating" in its place, and I haven't replaced it with a SS grid screen yet because it's not clogging.

The bottom screen is probably alright for most everyone, but the mouthpiece screen has to go if it's clogging. It will partly depend on the grind you are using.

Don't be shy getting a FM because of their little web presence, you'll see the packaging and the product is top notch. There's a counterfeit protection on their boxes so that you can confirm the unit is authentic, too. I freaking love em!

Sorry, I thought I was responding to the lower screen. In fact, reading back I still do?

The MP screen is easier to replace (they give you spares, expecting you will), but the 'screens from PV that come 50 to a bag' are going to be way too big to replace them. Not an easy 'cut and try' job, but would no doubt work. Removing the MP screen is, of course, a no brainer. No needles needed. Or pliers.

However I have no issues with mine, given it's kept reasonably clean. I find it easy and fast to clean in place if I don't let it go too far. I use a syringe and short piece of tube to pump hot PBW through it. I just put a dash of PBW in a shot glass, add hot tap water, and pump it in and out of the MP half a dozen or so times. Then a few minutes soak (full of course) and a few more pumps and a rinse out. Loosens the junk and pumps it out with no drama. In fact I did it again yesterday; the Mini has been seeing some hard duty of late. I've been charging twice some days lately......sometimes a third.....

I took out the top screen yesterday to inspect it and it was very clogged and that was only after like 4 sessions of use.

I'm still trying to get use the draw resistance (I'm coming from using a bag vape, so I'm use to pretty much no resistance). At first I was worried it might be defective but as others have mentioned its about on par with trying to suck up a McDonald's milkshake through a straw (though perhaps bordering on trying to pull a Wendy's Frosty through a straw). One thing I did find interesting is that I found little difference in the resistance pulling between having the bottom door closes and covering all the side holes and them being open and exposed (I did this with the unit off, no screen in mouthpiece, or herb in the chamber).

As we learned with MFLB, if you want to keep fouling down, be sure your herb is very well cured (to the point of being dry). It seems the water vapor is involved. I clean mine every dozen or so charges, not once (or even more often) per charge? I suspect such fouling is bud related?

It HAS to be bud/grind related, I'm using a Volcano grinder, and Boveda 62 pack is in charge of proper cure.

Mind to share a pic of one of your loads after grinding? It should be any time soon, anyway

So I just got my Mini and I have a question
Should the cover for the bowl lock in place . Mine slides all around making it impossible to load up and keep in my pocket without spilling .
This is a problem .
If this is the case I will have to send it back . I have not used it yet . So that should not be a problem .
Is there any way to fix this ?

That's too bad. I have 3 different FMs and if anything, mine are too tight. It's sometimes difficult to move them. But that makes them more secure if I'm carrying a load in the oven for vaping later.

I guess mine is going back then Had high hopes for it but ..... I will be buying something else .

So I just talked to PIU about a return. (not to Randy )
The first thing the guys says is Strange its usually the other door .
So this is obviously a problem . And he argues with me that is is not a problem any thing with a door wears out .
Really Wears out out of the package .
If I cant keep the oven closed it is not longer portable.
I am going to be very upset if they try to charge me a restocking fee for something they KNOW is a problem .
That said I have had nothing but good service form PIU in the past and I am hoping they handle this correctly .

One of my two Minis is like that, maybe it's a coincidence but it's the unit I got from PIU. The other one is too tight. I tried switching "doors" around to no avail. I don'T really mind, I carry my ground buds in a Doob Tube and just leave the mouthpiece on until the load is spent.

Yeah when my load is packed I constantly keep the mouthpiece on..in face I rarely remove the mouthpiece..just kinda always keep it loaded and in place.

But what if you want to put in you pocket . The point of this thing is that is small . If I wanted to put it on my pocket with the mouthpiece on I might as well just buy something bigger
Its just lame that there is no way to secure the door .
To me just a bad design . My opinion .
Maybe its just me .

It's not as much the design as a few units that have their cover a tad less tight in the grooves imo. 80$ units are not built with the same tolerances than my Arizer Air, for instance. I agree it's a bummer to have to compensate for this weakness by either carrying the unit unloaded, or leaving the mouthpiece on, but I rarely carry my tighter unit loaded anyway because I feel safer with the smelly fresh buds in a leakproof Doob Tube.

I gave my Volcano grinder away a while back, from what I recall the grind (really a shred) I'm using these days is finer, not I think that matters much. If I follow right, you're using one of the humidity control modules favored by Cigar and Pipe guys? IMO that's way too wet for vaping. They (or rather we, I was once one....) are trying to control a burn (amongst other things, tobacco has to stay wet to burn slowly enough. Cigarettes have glycerine and other stuff added for this reason. We don't want it slow (consuming heat to slow the fire down), we want it NOW!

Try grinding some medium/fine and put it open somewhere warm for a while, I use the top of my router. That moisture has to come out before we get vapor anyway, best to do it before so it won't slow it down later and eat up the battery doing so. More over, the condensed water seems to make a mess fouling wise.

I'll see if I can remember to dig out the camera and shot a shot or two of some 'ready to go' (IMO) herb. But experimenting around is encouraged in any case.

I love the door talk. Reminds me of Goldilocks? It's a little annoyance, the very sort that can really piss you off. My experience is sometimes debris trapped makes it too tight. I wonder if that (intentionally trapping some ABV in the rails or under the cover could tighten it up?

I haven't taken the sliders off of mine, but based on the divots I see I assume there are little numbs on the underside of the slider to help "lock" it open or closed. Perhaps yours are worn or broken?

That adage is often true, but I would demand a replacement as I think that's sounds like its defective (you will probably get more millage requested a replacement vs demanding a return). You could also try posting in the PIU thread: http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/www-puffitup-com-your-friendly-vaporizer-store.4113 I posted there about an issue with the free grinder they sent me and they were really friendly and offered to send me a replacement.

Here's a little tip I used on my flowermates v5 (fixed temp) to get the sliders to fit tighter, not sure if it will work with other models though as I only have the v5.

They started just nice took some force but not much, then over time they got loose, so I removed them then squeezed the top together before refitting, this alway did the trick for me.

I think PIU will be cool I already e-maild Randy about the issue .
I have done business with them before and they are great . I mentioned the argument because I thought it was ridiculous !
I did ask for a refund and will probably get a Pax 2 or something ? Just don't have the patience ......
And on that note once I find something I will probably write to the Grasshopper people and tell them to hold my order until they figure shit out even if it take another year !

Lol I'm sorry dude but your lack of practical sense is making me laugh! A return for that?

If you read the thread you would have seen it has been discussed already, at least once if not several times. As @UnshavenFish just said, you just have to press the aliminium body shell "lip" (that part that protrudes around the sliding lid) You can do it with your bare hands if you have a normal strenght or use any tool to do the job. You don't have to bend it a lot, it won't even be visible, less than a milimeter I'd say.

Your "you get what you paid for" remark was completely unfair and unfounded, provided you didn't even use the product once. Everything is made in China, it's now the #1 economy, live with it.

I get that you buy something and it should be 100 percent functional..no questioning asked but this is not exactly a regulated market..a little on the fringe if you catch my drift..but even with the mp in this unit is really small..still smaller or about same length as the air without its stem..the mp on the mini is literally maybe 1.5 inch??
