Firewood Vaporizer

Yes, loads end up definitely undercooked. No audio beeps from what I can tell though and it seems to be staying on for my whole session. So I have that going for me, right? I just can't produce any vapor no matter how long I draw. Only hot air. Bummin me out!
I hope this isn't the case with my unit. I was reading through the earlier pages (when @paytonpenn first uploaded the video) he claimed that his initial unit would slightly combust and that the next two units he received the herb wouldn't cook to his desired darkness. Maybe there was an an unintentional re-design In heating ? I e-mailed @firewood just waiting for an answer now

Ah right on! Like I said, it's such a wicked vape and I see so much potential in it, I'm just not able to get a groove going yet. I'm going to experiment the hell out of it later today and hope to get better results. Al the videos I have seen made it look so much easier.

Beware guys that there is really a technic to develop with this vape. I wasn't able to produce any vapor with my FW2.1 when I first got it, it was really strange. A lot of hot blank air, device getting hot properly but no clouds.

You need to play with all parameters: grind, amount, packing, distance, draw speed etc

I wish I could tell you the exact solution but my results, while clearly better, are still inconsistent from time to time. So keep experimenting! Unless you really have a faulty device of course...
Wish I'd read this. I really need to avoid vapes that have a learning curve however simple.

For me, once i had a fully functional FW3, there was little to no learning curve.

I wont say this is the best portable on the market, but instead a solid option, and a great value. Cheers.

Ugh, I'm really starting to miss living in the states.

184 CAD is what it would cost me roughly, as I've pre-ordered the Zion and since it's Christmas I really don't feel justified getting it. Oh well, gotta have control over the VAS and that's, I guess, a good thing.

I'll just be here on the sidelines envying you all :)

That review you quoted seems to be about the previous version of the Firewood only. I have not had previous versions but the version 3 is simply turn on, set temp and start pulling. The "parameters" mentioned by KeroZen do affect performance, but they do not make the Firewood require a huge learning curve IMO. These parameters exist to help you fine tune the use of your device as you get to know it better and they are typical to all true-convection portable vaporizers I have seen on the market.

Grind consistency does not matter much although I find a powdery grind will provide bigger hits and a more coarse grind will give you more hits but not as big of clouds.

Amount does not seem to matter. I pack it full sometimes because I'm rushing or feeling overzealous. I pack it 3/4 full most often because I remember the extra room in the capsule allows for bigger clouds even though I may lose a couple hits per capsule. Every now and then I pack only 1/4 capsule or 1/2 because I'm low on grinded material and too lazy to regrind.

Pack - don't pack...vacuum the herbs into the capsule and you will have the perfect pack

Distance - you can slide the mouthpiece all the way in or have it barely in...it still works either way and does not seem to affect the performance a whole lot except that your temps will seem slightly lower especially at temp setting 1.

Draw Speed - This is the biggest factor in your results. Fortunately, the Firewood version 3 makes it simple enough that you get what you ask for, in other words once the heater has started you get heat and vapor until you stop drawing. If you pull harder, you get vapor faster as the Firewood heater knows how to keep up. If you pull to slow for 3+ seconds on setting 4 you might combust.

I think you will find that the Firewood 3 is quite simple to use. But it's not just my opinion as you will see other FC members who have the FW3 have also mentioned the same results with their device recently in this thread.

I'm just not able to get a groove going yet.

Any luck layin that groove down?

My results are less about learning curve or technique, and more about vapor feedback.
Also remember the vape has to sense your draw.
I start by a quick cigar puff (just to wake up the heater), followed by a long slow draw, until I can taste the vapor.
As I draw I can feel/taste the vapor on my tongue, this feedback is how I determine draw speed.
If you don't taste it slow your draw, also remember heater needs to sense your draw, so a cigar puff from time to time may be needed.
When the mouthpiece gets warm, I simply readjust my lips and keep drawing.
With this feedback I can take a wispy stealth hit in public areas, or take a huge rip, both on temp #3.
I always finish on temp 4, and draw very slowly, no combustion yet (I just knocked on my Firewood)!

Hope this helps

@firewood
I'm really looking forward to having easier swappable batteries in this V-3.
Although I haven't tried the first two versions, I can tell ya I think you've nailed it with this one! Have you thought about a removable side panel with magnets? Similar to an up and coming pure convection portable that a lot of us have preordered.

Thanks @Mulehead! I actually just heard back from Marc and he suggested very similar techniques. For the most part, yes, I have been seeing better results, but only on temp 4 it seems. I still do not see any vapor or feel any effects on lower temps, which is mostly how I vape. Still more testing to be done today after Marc's response

Thank u for clarifying

His experience was with an entirely different unit. The 2 was selective power, think launch box so of course it had a learning curve. The new one eliminates that altogether by having heat settings.

So any "learning curve" applicable to his experience with the 2 and its variants are irrelevant. Different unit altogether.

ok vas got me again and the cybermonday deal...
but I have a few more questions... logic tells me I do not need another (portable) vape collecting dust...
I am also an early pre orderer of the gh, which I should recived long time ago. now estimated shipdate is december we will see... to be honest I was hoping that the gh will serve all my needs from a portable vape, but as far as I did not recive it u til now i can not tell...

maybe I will at first clarify what I am after regarding portable vapes, if you own an e-nano you will rapidly understandnwhat I am searching in a portable...

so maybe my first question which I think I already asked hear but only recived the opinion from one fc member who owns an enano... so how is the fw3 compared to the e-nano especialy regarding cloud production, taste, efficency.. I can get big dense clouds (3 to 6 clouds) with my nano with small loads (0.03 to 0.05g) and great taste (first 3 hits)... I also like to use a bubbler with my nano and it milks my bubbler quit satisfying for me so can the fw3 deliver... how 7s it compared to the nano... if someone can tell me the fw3 is the portable version of the E-NANO I would buy the fw3... what are the differences between the two vapes regarding clouds, taste, efficency...
I like the idea of the glass capsule reminds me of the nano stem, gong...

also how is it compared to the crafty and esv also two vapes that I own...

and how is it compared tothe gh? does it can do things which the gh can not e.g. I have heard the gh is more an one hitter would be the fw3 usable as a session vape?

another questionis the air- and vaporpath clean? I am a little bit scared of the silicone used i the fw3 for holding the capsule (I know there were a lot o f discussions regarding the safty of heat resistant silicone)... does the silicone pa3t of the fw3 get hot any chance of offgasing or so?

I hqve heard regarding taste that the fw3 has aslightly wooden taste which should disapear with usage? whats your experience?

Is the fw3 more a session vape or an one hitter?

ok that are more or less my questions if you have other things you can tell please do so. do not feel restrictedmbecause of my questions... thank you for helping me deciding if I need the fw 3 otherwise I will have to open a vape museum in the near future hahaha this vas thibg is really crazy....

Looks like it should work!

Thanks for this info. I went for the walnut and grabbed the charger too since it will work in Aus and be easier than charging in my aa charger and swapping batteries, or sourcing a local cord which would do the job but wouldn't turn off, risking constantly overcharging if i don't keep an eye on it.

The cybermonday15 second round has still not sold out yet for those we ho missed out, i just checked.

@Stevenski ? Not still paddling around in the shallows without a paddle? Trapped in a bog?

I have a Grasshopper - can confirm it's best as a one-hitter, and the speed and extraction power are giving me that quick perspective shift I've been missing since combustion. I'm determined to only have vapes I can use in ~2min or less from now on. The FW3 qualifies, right? That and having just sent my hopper in for the back-end-heat issue have my finger poised above the Buy button. Little hesitant, even w/ the deal, because not my favorite battery choice (rather USB charging than another wall wart) and screws-into-wood battery panel, but the effect is what counts, could use a little push.

Nah I decided to waste some money on a new grinder & storage puck along with a few other things before the restock. I am very interested in your feedback on the unit when you get it as I think it may be just the prescription I need. I would suggest getting a $20au Nitecore charger for your Air as well.

It will feel nice to hold the natural feeling walnut compared to the plastics & metals of other vapes :)

Can anyone explain the deal with the charger option? So on the site, the Maple is sold out, the unfinished maple has no image and the Walnut shows in the stock. I click "Yes" for the charger option and the ability to add it to the cart is removed and there is a sold out icon instead.
I can add the charger and Firewood to my cart separately, but now I have no idea what is going on.
Is this a glitch or is it safe to buy one?

Has to be a mistake, but yes it looks like you can order w/o charger and add a charger to complete an order.

Thanks. The site also implies that the coupon code would be valid as long as they were in stock, but I couldn't add it. I sent an email asking if there were any in stock and if the coupon code was still valid as paypal wouldn't accept it. The price is already right, but it is implied that coupon users would get theirs sooner.
I kinda like what I am seeing with this vaporizer, so now I want one. and soon.
