Firewood Vaporizer

Just so Dab HAppy!
I got my Firewood 3 back this Saturday, well it might be a replacement but either way I'm so glad to have it back. I don't use my Firewood over the weekend typically and I didn't really this weekend other than a couple of broken up sessions, but this morning I had a few sessions to reconnect and it was great! For portability, I am not sure this one can be beat. I'm not really looking for stealth, just convenience of clouds on the go and the Firewood 3 has got to be the most convenient vape I have used so far.

I would really love a longer stem or a small hydratube for the FW. For me it would make it a lot easier on higher temps.
The bubbler in this kit is perfect to run dry with the Firewood 3.

I was thinking that if I'm gonna bother attaching something I thought might as well run it through water. So I'm looking at the PNWT on dhgate from sunshine glass. I've heard less than fantastic things about the one Steven makes and sunshineglass seems to have a slightly better reputation overall. Does anyone know if the linked hydratube fits the FW well? If it doesn't it wouldn't be a complete waste of money for me to try since I know it'd work with another vape, but I'd really be getting it for the FW so that'd be a bit disappointing

It probably will not work for the Firewood 3. The problem with most PNWT is that they have a 18mm female joint which is too large. You would need to make sure you were getting one with a 14mm female joint or else it will not work without a reducer. You can find a reducer here-

This one is described as having a 14mm female joint and a lot of feedback mentions using it with the default Arizer air and solo stems. That it works fine with those but that a 14mm gong adapter works better.

Another thing I would like to mention is that PNWT's tend to leak easy and I would not want to risk leaking water into my vape. Marc has not mentioned if this should be a real concern or not, but I tend to think dropping water on electronic parts is not going to have great long term results.

It should fit on the Firewood just fine then. I would just be very careful as for water. I know the Zion heater can handle a drop or two, however I'm not sure about this one.

Say, I have a version 2 that went south on me a while back, aka, doesn't heat up. Thing is I rarely use a portable, literally about a week out of the year. I'm wondering if it's possible to fix this on my own. Figure I have nothing to lose but a bit unsure how it even opens up. Anyone take a firewood apart , perhaps someone has some advice? Thanks.

Good luck on the autopsy @stuartambient , it looks like the panel end opposite the battery removal is glued in place. I believe all the smart parts are on that end.

Amen brother!
Would you agree that efficient should be added in there too?

Exciting times tho for sure, and key words...so far.
I'm expecting to think the same thing about a few different devices in the next year, including the FW4 with easily swappable batteries!
Aside from that, good luck to Marc @firewood with making any other improvements to this version. (Exotic woods maybe?)

This type of vapor production with control, vapor quality/taste, ease of cleaning, with a bonus of being the most efficient unit in my line up, is exactly what I've been searching for in a portable.

You did good brother Marc!
Oh and thanks for wrapping it all up in a beautiful little wooden box!

It works but overtime the heat will evaporate the water.

I prefer the PNWT but the spill proof factor is why I haven't tossed it just yet.

This is from the micro bub thread,
I'm not satisfied with the shots and think they all came out pretty poorly. I decided to just upload what was alright for the time being. Expect a real Hopper video soon, probably with the UFO.

I have grown to like it more with all the testing, it is very good at retaining the liquid but vacuum pressure can easily make it all come out if you disconnect it or move it from a suctioned area too quickly.

Yes, I think it's glued. Maybe Marc will give some recommendation at some point if he sees this message. In the meantime, it seems to be working again :uhoh::clap:. I was literally in a pool of sweat trying to get a draw off the thing the last few times. I can see the heat glowing red in there now and just took a hit with some visible vapor so I'll keep my fingers crossed. Been at least 6 months since I've used it but it definitely was not working then after several attempts.

Im waiting til after the holidays to confirm, but I am currently in talks with him about a custom one. I need to do some more research and find a proper wood, but Marc seemed very receptive and willing to do me right :)

Rite on, Thanks for sharing!
I'm sure @Snappo can help find proper wood if he knows the requirements.
My fingers will be crossed that Golden White Teak Burl can be used!
I can't wait for the wood porn to begin!

Think I figured out what is going on with my 2.0 (or maybe 2.1, was purchased 11 or 12 of 2013.
Anyway, seems like that battery is not holding the charge for very long. I had one session that was good, but second session the battery was pretty much wiped and the red led was growing dim.

So my understanding is the battery is not replaceable. Guess I'd have to send it in to Firewood to get the battery changed? Wonder if it is worth it.

@paytonpenn would you recommend the fw3 supplement for the gh. both are convection I know but are there situation where the gh lack and the fw3 is better. for example is the fw3 better for session vaping then gh. I am reading the gh is not good for sessions because of hot moutpiece and so....

This is why I just go dry. After 2-3 sessions there will not be enough water to bubble.

Plus if you are not almost perfectly vertical it will not bubble.
If you fill it, angle doesn't matter for that specific piece; it will bubble as long as not entirely horizontal. Running out of water isn't an issue unless you don't want to change your water all day or at all after filling. Its more like after 5-7 sessions you'll have to replace the water. But after 3, I normally am wanting new water anyway, or am over water in general.

But then it's just not worth it to use dry (if your only goal is to extend) it further restricts airflow and gets obnoxiously dirty quicker.

If there is any hydratube type to pair with it the PNWT would be the one. The Micro barely cools hits.

gH is better as a session vape imo since the Firewood can just demolish a bowl on the low levels, whether you know or don't know what you're doing. At least with the Hopper you can control it further and ensure its a session vape.

Hot mouthpiece is negligible, just use the session extender like you're supposed to. All vapes used back to back quick enough are going to get warm/hot, it can't be avoided. Some are better at focusing the heat so its not directly in your way but it is still there. For example the FW body gets very hot from extended usage. Not the whole body but the side where the heater is above the FW logo gets extremely hot.

EDIT:
Just got my MF Bottle Rocket; amazing partner with the FW.

My extended mouthpiece shimmies easily into a 18mm male joint. Found out by trying it with my LSV wand. Gotta say...the vapor feels like it's not even there.

I dont fill my microbub that much so I guess that is why I feel it has to be so vertical/plumb and also why I notice the water going to low after only 2-3 sessions.

Otherwise I agree completely with everything else you say about including finding the microbub not to be worth it much. That may be because the form factor of the unit is already there and once you add something else your now taking away from the form of the unit IMO. Something extra to carry around and all but I still find myself interested in what I can hook her up to.

From anyone else I would ask for a picture of the MF bottle rocket and FW3, but since its you and you seem to enjoy making videos, could you make us a video session with these two paired together?

All this watertool talk got me creative. :sherlock:

Here is my FW3 with a 1 1/4" piece of silicone I cut of my ViVape2 whip and my Nibbler G from W9 Tech.
They sell similar spill proof water pills on Dhgate for like $15.

I slid the silicone over top of the stock silicone (using needle nose pliers to stretch it real quick) making a super tight seal.

The silicone makes a nice seal inside the water pill and is very secure.

This brings the FW3 to another level!

***EDIT IN***

Using the same silicone sleeve with a minivap water tool adapter.

Fits in nice and tight giving a 14mm attachment.

Holds my F-Bomb nice and snug.

Using a watertool with the FW3 is amazing...:)

Grabbed a Walnut Fw 3 & a few extra stems while i patiently wait for my grasshopper, it's a cool little vape. Taste wise it is not the greatest going from a non wood vape to vaping out of wood. I do taste the wood and find that i like the taste better from my other vapes although it is not so bad. I know it will dissipate after more use. I bumped up the temp by 4 notches , i usually start at temp 2 and get some great hits , than i bump up to 3 to finish off but sometimes notice at temp 3 my bud will come out a bit black after a session. I don't taste it com busting but its a bit dark for my taste. Capsules are cool but get dirty really quickly , after 3-4 sessions those things need a cleaning. I like that i can load a few capsules and take this vape on the go. Heat up time is about 10 seconds but i feel it takes about a minute to get some nice clouds out of the fw. So far so good , I'll prob stick with it until the gh arrives and possibly sell it or who knows if i start liking it more i'll keep it in the rotation.

Have you used convection vapes before? Most have a bit of a learning curve. I suspect your opinion of the FW will improve as you get the opportunity to learn it more. My initial impressions were quite favorable and as I've learned it more I've liked it more. I even successfully taught two of my friends who smoke how to use it and now both of them wanna switch primarily to vaping. Of course I introduced them to the plugged in log to learn the principle as I think it's easier in that with it having more power to it and being a bit more forgiving. Then the transition into the firewood was simple enough for them that they were both interested in vaping as a practical thing. Both had seen the volcano before and didn't view that as practical for their needs but learning to use a convection vape sold them on fucking combustion. And any vape that can convince dedicated smokers that vaping might be for them seems like a solid vape to me :) it's all about finding the technique that works best for you and for the vape. Once you find it you'll be in love. Or maybe convection isn't for you, but I'm glad you're giving it a try. Once the wood taste goes away its some of the best tasting vapor in a portable imo

Yes i have used a few , my last was the mflb. I have no problem using it and getting it to work properly , i just feel the taste is allot better from my other portables , not that the taste is bad but i don't see the wood taste fully dissipating. I am sure it will calm down after more use though. Also the hits are a bit hotter compared to most of my other vapes. I think i have the technique though pretty down pat as i am not new to this and have no problems achieving vapor. As you see in my signature i have a good amount of other brands to compare to , this is just my opinion.
