Firewood Vaporizer

I bought this thing less than a month ago. According to the invoice, it is a 2.1.

Catbird: The clouds are okay, nothing impressive. I have not been able to get anything near what I can get with the Daisy, for example, no matter what I try. That's not necessarily a bad thing for what I bought this particular vape for, but if I was using it as a daily driver, no, I would not be satisfied with the size of the hits I've been able to get.

Could be entirely my method, so I will keep trying.
Yeah, not sure that it's daily driver material for me either; I use it as a portable for flowers when stealth is in order so I can't use my Lotus. I'm still in the market for a battery portable that outperforms the FW (or really just one that is smaller and performs as well). But I am able to get nice hits and to get high with it reliably so it's serving it's function and thus I am happy with it (compared with my Evolution, which is a struggle). I agree with others that it doesn't typically provide a dark extraction.

EDIT: I just watched to see how long it took to heat/start to glow, and it was faster than your experience, though not as fast as @paytonpenn's. I saw the glowing starting at 25 seconds, and by 30-35 seconds it was at a solid/bright/full glow, and this was after a few uses/not on a full charge.

ANOTHER EDIT: I have my eye on the Daisy, as well as the Vapman for my next torch-based portable. I'm feeling like that might be my favorite class of vaporizers, though don't have enough info to make such a declaration yet. But sometimes, batteries are in order.

That's what I remember with mine, being able to see the heater glow red when empty.
But I can't do that anymore, no more visible glow :(

Edit: okay thanks for the tips, even without visible glow on my 1.0 I managed to get it going again. I just forgot how damn long you have to lean on the button (60-90 seconds from a cold start). The 1.0 is definitely capable of dark extraction, I even managed to combust a little as I over-corrected (whoops).

It's possible to get a decent-size hit (I seem to be a huge hitter) if you let go of/pulse the button after drawing about halfway through to avoid combustion. It's a fine line and it helps to be able to go by taste. Breath control is important too, so if it tastes hot draw harder and/or pulse the power button. This is definitely a fully-manual vape that takes patience to master and regular usage to stay efficient with it.

I'm not quite there yet, but it's definitely capable of dark brown if not black abv so be careful

Just sounds like a defective unit. I see the heater glow at 10 seconds on initial heat up by 20 seconds its red hot.

I'll be doing a video soon.

Okay, I just did a test. I fully charged the unit and isolated my eye against the heater port.

I get faint glow at 17 seconds, wide glow and feeling some heat at 23 seconds, full glow and red hot at 45 seconds.

So is this what I should expect? I wonder if I should ask @firewood at this point.

EDIT: Just had to add...I loaded a capsule with about twice as much as I did last time: 2 pinches, each lightly tamped, herb to about 1/4 full.

First hit holding 35 seconds: light, whispy, tasty
Second hit holding 20 seconds: Biggest hit I've gotten on FW yet! Almost choked me!
Third hit holding at 25 seconds: Bigger hit this time even! Had me hacking!

Slight shake and blow and going for another. I still would like Firewood's input on the heat-up times, but I think for me it could just be method. This session is the best success I've had yet.

RE-EDIT: Okay, I think I'm getting the hang of this. I worked on draw method, slowing down to where I am just barely drawing until I feel the heat on my throat and then increasing, decreasing, etc. throughout. I got three more decent hits out of this load, each about the size of the hits I had previously been getting before those big clouds this session. ABV is uniformly dark brown with some yellow specks.

At some point I really wondered if I had not received a 2.0 instead of a 2.1, but the billing order says it's the latter.

My problem is not really getting vapor, I can get a few very satisfying hits. But at some points vapor production stops and all I get is hot air. Usually the device exterior is scorching hot when it arrives, so I don't insist anymore. When I open it and empty the capsule, the load is barely brown (with some dark spots sometimes)

Compared to how many hits I can get with my other portables, I get the impression it's not very efficient. Yet I'm medicated, so one could argue that this is the only thing that matters?

The element gets glowing in more 40 sec than 20. The other day, batteries were dead flat, so I used the PA and it was a completely different experience! At last I got the feeling there was adequate power and I got hits in 20 seconds like advertized. My batteries got juice for one or two sessions, then afterwards it's like I have to hold the button two times more.

I definitely find the FW to be efficient. I can get very medicated on like 2/3 of a Lotus-scoop (I use the Lotus scoop to fill my capsules, and it's how I measure the amount of herb I use in general, in Lotus-scoops... I'm not sure exactly what it would be in grams, but it's a pretty tiny scoop). I also get vapor/clouds/decent extraction. And I find that the battery lasts for a while -- I haven't kept track of exactly how many uses, but when I travelled with it recently I used it for three full days on one charge -- probably about 10 sessions. I haven't paid enough attention to determine if it performs better when the battery is near full, and worse as it nears empty... I suspect this is so, though not sure to what extent, however I can say that it functions well/I can still get medicated with it up until the moment that the battery dies... so yeah. I am having the opposite experience as you. I've been playing around with it at home lately as well, since I had to send my Lotus cap for repair, and I've been satisfied. Maybe it is daily-driver material for me, even though I dismissed that idea a little earlier (I guess I overlook battery portables in such a role, but I shouldn't).

Hi,

Firstly thanks everyone in this thread for their input, I have been lurking for a while and thanks to all your positive reviews I am now the proud owner of the Firewood 2.1 :-), which looks ace!

I just have a quick question - I know I'm meant to charge it fully before 1st use, but it has arrived with some charge already. Would I be better off discharging it completely now and then fully charging it, or just plug it in for a full charge straight away? I just want to keep the battery in as tip top condition as possible.

Cheers

I would go ahead and charge it before discharging it. It might not hurt to leave it on there for an hour or two after the light turns green. Enjoy!

Perfect that's just what I wanted to hear, thank you.

It will be a big test of my patience to leave it charging any longer than is strictly necessary though, I'm itching to try it!

Hi, do you think the Core (from W9) could be able to handle the FW, this is the same jack than the FW PA.... and since we can adjust the voltage maybe it could be usefull....idk

Has anyone tried to disassemble their FW 2? I'm about to try it, because mine has developed a bad contact in the charger port. I don't blame the device itself - in fact I'm very happy with it - but I have a habit of plugging the charger in after each hit, which after several months of use has probably worn out the socket. Also, I'm just curious how the device is built.

Anyway, information on how to disassemble the unit would be appreciated, and any photos would be super-appreciated. ;)

EDIT: For the record, my device is probably still under warranty, but I don't feel like sending it away.

I don't feel you'd want to break it down as the only way to get it fixed is getting a new body. If anything I'd be more concerned about the battery lifes real world usage shortening from all the overcharging and unnecessary charging. No way the cord could just have a short?

The problem was with my charger, not the firewood, which is good.

I'm still interested if anyone can tell me how to open the unit without breaking it.

Green goes to brown, n that's what I stand for.
Anyone still using their Firewood? Just got one used off another Member. Definitely hit well after getting it heated up nicely, but it took a few minutes to get a good hit as the bowl was packed with a lot. Next time i'm gonna try it with less and see how it performs. I did get very blazed though before even getting a visually satisfying hit, and much more so afterward. Bowl was about 1/3 full and cooked surprising evenly for never being stirred.
