Come on guys don't say that you are not able to use epoxy? You'll spare the man some hard earned money.

Everybody is, of course, free to do whatever they want. But if one's goal is to support Marc, perhaps one should ask him which solution he prefers - him spending the money or someone else performing repair work the quality of which he has no way of guaranteeing. A person working on their own FW may cause headaches for him down the line should the unit need further servicing later on.

I am not aware of ANY business that would say "yeah, go ahead and DIY that and it'll still be under warranty and we'll still assume liability for mishaps." Maybe such a place exists, but I've never heard of it.

PS: I tend to think most people are nice, smart and well behaved, I admit that it can be one of my downsides.

Sure, I could put some epoxy in. That's entirely beside the point though.

Marc runs a legit business, and has done for years now. He isn't some dude knocking up one or two of these in his spare time as a hobby, and he's definitely not a charity. My fw4 cost me around $300aud.

It's crazy to me that anyone would do a recall job on anything themselves for the sake of a couple of weeks without the product. Not just vapes but anything. Recalls are serious business.

Totally side topic, but to clear up the stereotype - people who threaten to sue rarely understand how the US legal system works. In truth, it's mostly a system of written rules and a class of professional that parses semantics for money stakes. If you can't easily prove financial harm and your target doesn't clearly have money to spare, then lawyers will want money up front, which automatically rules out the majority of the population. Yes, there's room for abuse, but that requires money, most Americans can't do it.

Of course, vapes are a messy example - fire damage is pretty quantifiable, but batteries have varied origins and plenty of room for user error - and I imagine the bigger players have insurance (lawyers like that) but, in Marc's case, he's not clearly monied and you'd almost certainly have to pay up front to harass him.

tl:dr the "sue for everything" stereotype is based on hubris and some rich assholes, it's not a wide-spread thing.

You are thinking about individuals but you need to consider companies. Almost everyone has homeowners or renters insurance. The insurance companies have the resources to bring things to court and they will not hesitate to do so if it means that they will avoid or offset payouts. My sister's house burnt down last year and I watched her interaction with the insurance company. Having seen this I can confidently say that they would go after a business that produced a product that was potentially a fire hazard and asked people to do a DIY fix or the person who did the fix. It sucks that Marc has to invest in this recall instead of his business but it is the right move. Do yourself and Marc a favor and send your FW back to him for the repairs. If you feel bad, pay for your own shipping.

Ok I stop, you guys are adults, do as you please. I expressed how ridiculous I think it is, I tried to show you that there's absolutely nothing mystical nor magic to it. But at the same time I build vapes as a hobby so it's expected that I see things differently.

PS: please no need to answer, everything has been said already, don't rehash it just for the sake of having the last word, let's move on!

I stop in for one quick look-see about this recall, and the first thing I read are words of wisdom I agree with wholeheartedly. While this fix is easy enough for careful tinkerers, I think this is best left to Marc so there's no question about warranty issues down the road.

Everybody should definitely send in their firewood 4 units to get the official fix! I appreciate people wanting to save me money but I'd much rather have the peace of mind of knowing that everything has been fixed properly.

(FYI I have no problem sending it back to you without you having to pay for the shipping, but I don't want to breech your protocol).

Hey moon! Thanks for your reply. I emailed Marc yday to ask if he could withhold my order until I get back to Canada, so I didn't want to bombard him with another question until he had the chance to reply lol. And I figure he's busy with the recall process.

I have a lot of respect for the way he handled that whole ordeal actually. It was one of the many reasons I decided to get the fw. I'm going a little off topic here but I just wanted to throw that out there :)

Got my FW4 back from the recall, and I'm glad I left it to Marc to do rather than futz with it myself.
Nicely done job!

Marc did a great job, and I hope his sales move on up and up to help him recoup his expenses from the recall!
It is indeed a nice piece of work.

My FW4V2.0 was just this evening instrumental in turbocharging my suspension of disbelief and enhancing my enjoyment of The Defenders. Good goin' FW4V2.0!!
