Discontinued Epicvape EV-1/EV-2

Got three bowls in. shower, then work. This thing is a beauty and easy as hell to use. I am still perfecting my fine tuning spot. You almost have to adjust, then wait a bit, try it, then readjust re-wait. Out of the box, i think the temp on normal mode is similar to a Cherry PD after a burn in. You can pack the bowl big or small and will be looking at a temp i think most would like out of the box......... im tuning it back a little, and want it at where my Ash PD is. But with the EV1, i wont have to pack 3 or 4 bowls like i do in Ash PD.

The fact that you can "fine-tune" the temp on the EV1 is huge IMO. I typically keep on the same temp for most vapes, the entire session. I dont like to adjust upward as the bowl gets used up as most vaporists do. once i dial the new EV1 into the perfect temp for me, it will likely be one of the if not the easiest vaporizers for me to use....... First impressions; a much more refined and finished product then the original. Like the style!
*edit. what is the wood bowl for?

Glad you're enjoying your new EV-1. The 'wood bowl' is the new mouthpiece for the whip.
Be sure to put the 1/2" screen in the mouthpiece first then push the tube in. With the 2-screen system I can keep the El-bowl screen coarse so it doesnt gum up as rapidly, and then the mouthpiece screen catches the very fine particulate, and is VERY easy to remove and clean/replace.

I chose wood for 4 reasons.
1) IMO I think it looks better.
2) Way more durable than glass! Never gonna break it when it hits the counter, or floor.
3) Allows for a secondary fine screen that is very easy to remove/replace. You could also put a cotton/ carbon filter in it if you like.
4) 3rd parties like Ed can make nice custom mouthpieces? Ed?

Ok, so I gotta stay this set up kicks a punch in the face! A video would do better but pictures will suffice for now :) Just wanted to share with anyone who may be interested in what I have been playing around with. I gotta say I just love this EV. I have only been using my EV and Omicron lately, with a side of TT here and there. I just love how I can hook the EV up to all my glass.

If anyone is willing to drop the extra cash maybe get the Fatty or new Saturn Tamer. I can tell you now, you will love it. You will also need a 18mm male to male connection for the bowl. Otherwise I just got the SSV/LSV Original Vapor Tamer ($29.99 on sale oooooooh)

Andy, you may want to look in to some of this in the future and possibly offer it as an accessory. I know your customers will love it as much as I do.

*EDIT*

The name of this vape couldn't be better... damn this thing is epic.

Gvape- where did you get that long 18 male-to-male connector?

Sorry i haven't given a full on review yet. I will eventually get out some pictures and some more info. The wood is beautiful, and although i hate to take and post pic's, i need to show this off a little bit. The Ev1 has been the only vape i have used at home since i got it, up until yesterday. Yesterday, the E got some work as i was thinking bags sounded nice.

I have now fine-tuned the vape to exactly where i like it, about to where my Ash PD is. It is a very easy to use, and is well accepted by the couple of friends who have stopped by and tried it. This unit is vastly improved over the original beta unit. Thick vapor, very quickly.

So I've been using the Epic as my daily driver for a week or so now. I absolutely love it. Because I use my vapes almost exclusively with water tools, I had some trouble landing on the best adapter for using it. But once I went with one that didn't have too much air flow, the Epic has consistently delivered the best combination of taste and efficiency of all my vapes.

I did hit a small bump mid-week when I got a batch of especially oily vapables. But all I had to do was turn up the heat setting, and it started cranking again. And even with that turned up as far as it goes, I have had no accidental combustion at all, even when I went to a less oily batch it didn't combust. Efficiency-wise, it is the closest to my PD than any non-log that I've had, and the taste is better. For some reason (perhaps the size of the heating element, which looks smaller?) IMO the taste is better on the Epic than on other ceramic element vapes, like the LSV and the SSVs and DBVs I've used.

And I gotta say I LOVE the build quality. I have nerve damage, and tend to drop things sometimes. I have dropped the Epic repeatedly, and nothing has broken. I even dropped it hard enough to scrpae up the pretty wood once, and nothing internal was damaged. Gotta love that - the other vapes of mine that have a comparable taste quality break easily.

I do still wish I had a better adapter for it. What I am using now is the same as some other folks - an LSV vapor tamer, attached to the pipes with an 18 male to 18 male adapter. I originally used that adapter alone but it allowed too much airflow. The vapor tamer both has a nice, narrow air path that is exactly right for the Epic, it can also provide added cooling. Though I'm too much of a couch potato to keep putting it back in the freezer all the time :( . It looks like the ELB that will come with the Cloud will make some other adapters work with the Epic though. Wish I knew where to get one of those now to give it a try.
IAmKrazy2 - you have, or at least had, a Cloud beta. Have you used a Cloud ELB with the Epic at all?

Interesting thought. Not sure if I could cram the whole ELB in there without knocking out bottom screen, but will try tonight after work. Could be a game changer.

I broke my 18- to -18 adapter I'd been using with the EV-1. So for the first time in years, I actually used a whip. And I am impressed. I have never had anywhere near as satisfying a whip session before as I did with the EV-1.

The only downside I have seen is a problem a couple of my vapes have - for some reason, on some days it just doesn't crank as much visual vapor, even using the same vapables. I've had that with the VHW 3, LSW, and PD as well, just to name a few. I live in an area where the air on some days is so humid its like soup, so maybe that's it? The only vapes that I haven't run into this with are the Supreme (both v1 and v2)and my VHW 2.0. Odd, but I don't blame the EV-1, as other vapes have the same issue.

I can picture in my head what the perfect water pipe adapter for this would be, IMO, I just don't know anyone who would make it - my sister, who teaches glass work, could do it but she won't - she neither combusts nor vapes and doesn't approve of either. Just needs an 18-to-18 ale to male with a constricted air flow - air passage no wider than the one in the LSV Vapor Tamers. Shouldn't be impossible to find.

I'm still loving the build quality, too - I just broke yet another VHW heater cover, the EV-1 fell in the same fall and is perfectly fine.

Arf, have you ever checked if your electrical outlets produce a constant voltage? Sounds like that could be a cause for your inconsistency as well.

That hadn't occurred to me. I'll have to dig out my voltmeter and check. I have one somewhere.

Epic Vape Review:

Pictures to follow. Been having computer issues the last few days so excuse me, writing this from my cell phone will likely end in some typos and such. Oh well.

First Impressions:
Really a nice looking vape, IMO. Pictures will speak a thousand words, but i am partial to wood vapes. None two the same, and elegant. This unit is much improved over the original beta in finish and production. Can't overlook, HANDMADE IN THE USA. :D

Ease of use:
Well above average. Plug in, get fat clouds. No worries with proper technique or fiddling with temps like the vast majority of other vaporizers. Likely the easiest to use wood vaporizer i have ever tried... I personally dialed it down a little from the original temp, but once you find what you like, you can just keep it right there. This temp will rise if the unit is on for hours, and you may have to dial back a little to keep favorite temp.
One thing, is you do have a few pieces to keep on hand when you include the tool, dome screen, and whip. This would be true with a lot of vapes ala Supreme, VXC, Extreme, and many other i have tried and use. Just something to consider vs. a standard log-style vape, with only one part; the stem. A way to attach the tool to the cord or unit would be cool if possible. True cloud pleaser for the first time vaporist.

Taste:
I'd say it is on par or slightly better then a standard GonG whip vape. I think it delivers slightly better taste then say my Extreme, with a less direct air path thru the electronics and bottom of unit. When adding the LSV glass delivery tubes (sorry forgot what they're called) taste is even better but IMO too hot for constant direct use with herb. This isn't a knock on the Epic, because the vapor likely comes out even cooler then the LSV when using the same tube. I have a hard time using the LSV constantly too without becoming irritated with the hot vapor. On the regular, i tend to water cool my vapor. which bring me to the next category.

Water Use:
I have not tried to hook directly to water tool through use of male GonG adapters and so-forth like others. I have used an 18mm whip adaptor to filter hits through water to good success. This vape has less drag thru water then a standard log vape style. The vapor is cooled, and you can take nice big hits. This isn't the glass juggernaut something like the VXC is, but very nice to not have to fiddle with temp like i do on my LSV and sometime VHW. Less restricted airflow then the VHW too. There is a multitude of ways one could figure out to hook the Epic up to a water tool.

Efficiency:
Above average. With the temp the unit comes on, i think about anyone could evenly brown a load of herb with little to no learning curve. Pop the screen to break down and stir a couple times, you'll be all set. If you keep your herb moist, or don't use a grinder, it might require a little more breaking down and stirring to expose more surface area to herb. I have had no problem getting even coloring at any temp with a couple of stirs, and a little "dedication" on those last few hits. You can load just a little herb for good results for those lightweights - although not my personal style.

Bowl Design/Function:
Although not the most refined looking bowl with screen stacked on top of screens, it functions very well. Kindof a similar concept to the EZ load bowl of the soon to be released VXC, although again, less refined- but it still functions very well. Don't judge a book by its cover. I havent worried about flipping and dislodging screens like the vast majority of other whip style vapes. I for-see more vapor companies working with similar bowl design concepts that are capped off in the future, it simply works well. Really above average to almost top tier in the actual function of the bowl. Once again, this concept requires you to keep track of several pieces.
Note: i would need more time to work with the VXC EZ load bowl to see if this function better. It does change the temp slightly, and i have not liked adjusting the Epic now that i found my sweet spot.

Hash Use:
A pleasure to use with some fine dry sift kief. i have a whole bunch of the 90micron blonde Apollo 13 kief and more then a couple loads saw use in the Epic. Great big clouds, not too hot from the whip, easily in the temp range, and browned up about perfectly. I also have ripped some good bubble hash in using both the whip and the LSV vapor tubes (once again forgot their proper name). i really like some good bubble on boost mode, but at my standard temp + boost it is a little bellow where i like to finish my bubble hash. I like my current Epic temp too much for herb to adjust it, because i dont want to lose that V spot. I also have other vape options to use with bubble hash. So with a little patient, and temp adjustment, the Epic probably would be an epic vape to use with some bubble has after you have already gummed up your screen a little bit.

Story/Pictures:
Still to come, i wrote this on my droid damn it! I'm done for now... I have no idea how long this is, and no spell check. I went back and proofread a few times, but sure i missed some stuff. Anwways, more to come all.

I have been absent from this thread for a long time. Mainly due to my work life taking over all my time, but I do want to get active again here. I need to go back and read everything I missed to catch up. I know I think I saw someone ask me a question at one point, but dnt think I ever answered.

I did recieve my new unit, but DO NOT like how cool it runs, I seem to have a VERY yellow abv everytime. After reading just now that I can adjust the temp I am like a little kid with excitement. This means this will go back to being my number one vape if I can dial in that temp a little hotter like I like it. Gonna figure that out later tonight.

My next question is for anyone who owns an Epic. Is your heater touching the glass wall inside. Mine is on a huge angle and not aligned straight. I wonder if this is affecting my heat flow and the reason why Im not getting a hot enough temp I like. I emailed Andy about this, but have not heard back.

The main point I want to add right now is how sexy this thing looks. The final model is one badass design and looks VERY professionally crafted. A HUGE plus to the wood mouthpiece. It works wonders, especially compared to a glass one. I hated the glass mouthpiece as I broke mine. Whenever I would set it down it would make a huge clink and finally one day it shattered. Wood ftw!!!

I still need to do a full review with pictures of all my parts I have (yes I ordered many custom parts from various places) to make this vape the ultimate vape for myself. Keep your eyes peeled for a post from me soon.

Also, didnt get a new e-pik with my order. Im sure Andy will help me out though once he gets a chance to read my email. As an e-pik is so vital with this product for not burning your fingers.

gvape-
I asked where you'd gotten the long 18 male to 18 male piece. I have a short one, but it lets too much air through at once. At the moment I'm using my LSV vapor tamer as part of my set up just to narrow the airpath. With that, I LOVE this vape.

I had to crank the heat on mine up pretty much as far as it would go to get the results I wanted, but now its my daily driver. I'd like to be able to simplify my water pipe set up for it though.

Thanks ED! The ID is 3/8 but the mouthpiece actually fits over the tube so I can insert a fine mesh screen inside the mouhpiece that's super simple to remove and clean or replace. The OD is 1/2"

Thanks for the info Andy. Seems that my tubes will already slide into the tubing for a snug fit. Gvape would know I think. Like your mouth piece though, you have put alota work into making this device. I commend you for sticking with it and making this happen. I am sure it was tough alota times, Congratulations!!!

Have been using the EV-1 often, and typically use water filtration through my tubing to 18mm various glass. I think its easier to use with less effort in prep. then my LSV for water hits, and gets more work right now. Really, this and the Supreme are all i have used for water hits till i get VXC again.

I hate how in the LSV or VHW i always flip my screen while stirring, and end up sucking plant matter into my tree percs and places its hard to get out. I dont have big matter suck thou the EV-1, and i actually prefer a partially gunked up screen to perfectly clean screen. But, cleaning it easy, soak in iso 24 to 48 hrs, rinse with hot water, all done.

New tool looks good Andy. Here are some pictures as promised.

After several modifications of the glass air-path I have been able to cut the heat up time by less than half!

THE EV-1 now heats up in 2 minutes! :)

This upgrade is on every EV-1 now shipping and can be retrofit into all older EV-1's. I will upgrade all EV-1's out there for free. Just shoot me an email.

Cheers!
