The new unit arrived today, happy Friday to me!
It's beautiful, to start, about the same size as last time around (I'm the proud owner of two dozen film cameras, but none digital, so pictures may come in time.) If anything it's a bit shorter, but the aesthetics changed in more than just size. The top of the unit now features a more rounded and bevel'd guard compared to the cog-like guard on the last one, and it's been inserted from the bottom, it would appear. The wood around that guard now is rounded and polished looking, everything has a wonderful lustre to it.
On my last unit the heating element was at a slight angle, but this one is perfectly true, and looks a bit shorter than before.
The light inside is offset, and not just under the element like before, and it's also become blue instead of orange, which, I suppose, matches my caselights on my PC. A nice co-incidence.
The bottom of the unit is uncovered, a round metal plate covers the internals and is held in place by two Phillips head screws.
The cable is black and cloth covered, the switch is black too, the cable is still the "flat" kind, but it's more flexible and longer than before.
Andy also included a new El-Bowl with the unit, and it too differs slightly. The glass is the same, as well as the thimble screen, but the 'rear' screen (The top one if the bowl is in the vape), is different. It appears to be a modified 1" or so round pipe-screen, cut to fold up in the top, and it's result is that it's further away from the thimble. This might allow the material being vaped to be held by suction further from the element, reducing temperature somewhat, or just allow for the filling of larger bowls, and easier screen replacement when the time comes.
The unit is heating up next to me now, and I'll come back and edit this post to account for the actual use of it, with (hopefully) both bowls, as well as with a water-pipe.
I'm awfully excited to use a proper vape again. I've been using an EQ elbow as a bowl/heat-diffuser with my water pipe in the mean time, and temperature control is a trick with it, and the too-hot-too-sleepy feeling that comes with it won't be much missed (But to be perfectly fair, I never combusted with it, and it worked, so there's no knocking that part of it).
Edit:
A short one, because it works. I prefer the new screen style greatly. It lets you see inside the bowl and watch the process, which is fun, and it also tastes better, runs cooler, and still makes massive clouds. Yeehaw.
